  1. I think leprechaun mischief predates internet. I remember a few times in the early 80’s when the gallon of milk turned green overnight, or the shoes might have been tied together, etc. Things didn’t happen every year but I lived with people with great imaginations and storytelling skills.
  2. You are all making me want to give Costco another try. We were members for 2 years but I didn’t find it that useful. I wonder how much variation there is between stores? I don’t ever remember live plants, only bouquets. Funny story though, the first time I bought milk there both my kids independently raved about it. It was the best they had ever had. We then got an email that it had been recalled for having too much cream.
  3. I was recently pondering the same question when touring a large university that is probably close to you. I didn't expect students to greet us, but I could tell they were ignoring each other as a whole. It was a lovely day weather wise. Many had headphones and phone conversations while walking between class. I am more familiar with a much smaller campus with less of a commuter population, so the whole vibe was different.
  4. For us, the district's preseason conditioning started when that district was out of session in May. There was a daily workout that varied from scrimmage days, weight room or runs. My son attends a magnet school that was still in session for another couple weeks. The coach was welcoming to us, understood that schools had different end dates, already had 1 or 2 non district students in the past, did say that summer was optional until highly recommended end of July training camp week. He said that training camp was when coaches looked at individual strengths and that tryouts were early August. If you are moving into the district than I would hope coaches would be understanding. If there are social media community groups, it might help to reach out for parent information. I imagine a lot depends on size of program. Boys soccer programs are very competitive in my part of OH.
  5. I would reach out before tryouts. At least here, some sports have “optional” practices for a season before tryouts. My son was thinking about soccer for our home district. I heard from other parents that about a minimum of 80% attendance during the summer daily 8 am optional practices was necessary. The school was great with adding us to email lists, but my son ultimately didn’t continue to tryouts because he felt a social divide with the other players.
  6. I like the idea of hummus and veggies and a fruit plate. We put canned chickpeas into blender with olive oil and random herbs or spices. Never tastes the same from one batch to another but always is good.
  7. My in-laws have a patriarchal culture. It has caused problems that I support and value my children as individual people within our family and that I do sometimes place their needs and desires on a level with the adults in the family.
  8. I hope you find a reasonable price location. Ugh, I found out recently that my iud will need to be removed in a similar procedure. I am hoping to wait 4 years; who knows what it will cost by then.
  9. I would take my family camping near Lake Superior, which we often do. However, I would go this time with the super thick camping mats, ultralight backpacks, all the fancy wool clothing etc. The biggest part of the dream: I would pay to have the suv cleaned when we get home.
  10. She may love him, but she has a more important duty to keep her children safe. After therapy and rehab, perhaps there can be supervised conversations.
  11. I’d assume someone wanted to view the museum without lugging it around, and not given another thought. I’m probably naive. It could have been lost/forgotten, or a drug exchange etc.
  12. I am hoping for an awesome idea too. I would pay for Shutterfly to continue share sites. I don’t think they know how much my school loves them.
  13. You need way more than a cyber hug. I am so sorry this happened. I wish we could ban those companies. A similar thing happened to my parents. The foundation of their house was sprayed with insecticides instead of a neighbor.
  14. Congratulations and welcome little one.
  15. I know of one pregnancy several years after vasectomy but wasn’t comfortable asking for details. I do wonder if follow up checks were completed. Everyone was so stunned by the pregnancy, led to accusations of infidelity etc. Paternity was established. The couple did divorce several years later but I do not know their reasons.
  16. @KSera I think that with some of local cat rescues they require adopting two kittens as a way to clear the shelter/foster homes . One wouldn’t let me adopt unless I agreed to 2 when I already had a year old cat at home. I really believe that strong arming people into more cats than they want or can financially support will only lead to rehoming or inadequate pet care. Three cats is definitely more time and money than 2 or 1. One rescue owner tried to defend their position by telling me she had 12 cats and it was all the same as 2. No Way!!! It also doesn’t account for different cat personalities. One of my previous cats peed on any clothing I wore to a pet sitting job. Later, she had to be temporarily housed with my parents’ cat and she peed on belongings we brought from our house. Message received, I truly believe that she was meant to be an only. She did have crazy kitten moments including getting inside the walls of a rental house, but I don’t see how having had two cats would have changed anything. We played with her often and she had a long life. I adopted her with a commitment for her life, and I’m so glad we didn’t have to deal with surrendering an animal to prevent the peeing.
  17. I had a situation once that I wish had been mackerel juice. A mouse got into the apartment and my cat was in pursuit. It was a rental and I didn’t want stains on the light colored carpet. I grabbed an empty laundry detergent jug from the bin. I uncapped it and tilted it toward the mouse who ran right inside. I recapped and thought it was a successful removal. Then I realized that empty detergent jugs are not truly empty. It had dripped on the cat. Luckily it was on top of head and neck, so she couldn’t clean it and poison herself. I had to repeatedly rinse her until she stopped sudsing. Plus she was still stressed about losing the mouse. PS. I had to call in late to work. Luckily my boss lived on a farm and this wasn’t the craziest excuse she had heard.
  18. I’m hungry for a burger and shake now. I’m glad you are able to update us, I’ve been thinking of you.
  19. My dd loved learning to crochet with 2 woobles kits. After those kits, she made a dozen different animals from free patterns online.
  20. For someone interested in computer engineering or maybe electrical engineering, wants to stay around Ohio region, might be national merit semifinalist, good variety of extracurricular activities but not a great writer so not expecting scholarships based on essays. We know “we” want to see Ohio State Univ, Univ of Cinn, Miami Univ-Ohio, Purdue, and where else? Case Western, Rose Holman and Norte Dame are probably possible for admission but not tuition.
  21. I’m glad to see your dedication to meeting interest and abilities of your patrons. Our local library was renovated around 2015. The children’s area has a playhouse with play kitchen, and baskets of toys. An adult is supposed to stay with a child, but frequently children are running around alone. The librarians are not impressed by the new design. The main branch of the library district has a treehouse with a slide. So I wasn’t surprised.
  22. Would your region have active chiggers this time of year?
  23. We have long hair cats but have never had static. We do use a humidifier in the winter.
