  1. aside of MEP that is a spiral aproach you have Math-u-see which is a mastery program. Math in focus is another name for the americanized (pretty book and color) of Singapore Math. the PS are fascinated by it because of all it's bells and whistles, however it is very intense for non-involved parents. so the success of your class is not only dependant on your students but parents too. if I am not mistaken Singapore versions are mastery programs, so unless they say different so is Math u see. which is sooo $$ anyway. Math you see has a very good support for schools and a staff developement class to learn how to implement the program. if you do use it I suggest you ask parents to buy a specific coloring pencil set that matches their rod colors. (my kids had hard time finding matching the teals and tans, ask them they wi' tell you what brand) MEP is free, they have printed books you can order or you can print. adjust a little the money language and that's it. As I said it is spiral program. for lower grades MEP would be nice teaching with an abaccus (sp)
  2. it will take organization but you can make a co-op of homeschoolers or get your neighboorhood kids and start couple times a week during summer and once a week on colder months... unless you have a large family it will be hard to do it alone. You and hubby would have to play too.
  3. thank u for the heads up on MOH grade levels. I was reading the curriculum site and they said it could be use even in K. I guess they have timelines and coloring book activities to keep the occupied while listening. thank you for directing to the ambleside scope. I feel like I read that website 1mill times and can't understand their sci and History rotation. I will look at the options suggested.
  4. I am interested on history for a 1st grade level. also I would like to follow or combine Bible History. I've never seen Mystery of History and wonder what was the content like aside the sample pages and if it worked with little ones. I have a 6/7yr old and a 4/5 yr old. So no older kids. is it a 4yr rotation? is that too fast? is it confusing to little kids to be exposed to an integrated History? Also, what does Ambleside use and what is its rotation. Is it hard to add/combine Bible History? same questions for SOTW, what is its rotation? do you all combine Geography with History? what do you use for your little ones. Thanks K
  5. a very wise mama told me a month or so ago about history and retention that we are not teaching really for them to memorize and tell us back a bunch of facts, we are teaching them how to learn. and that is more important than content. No matter the curriculum you use, how many times you cycle through a period of History, The first time around you are teaching how to learn.... =o) k Ps. Just like my father (business owner) said, he does not hire college graduates because they know. bur rather because they have learned how to solve problems, and the rest they'll pick up on the job.
  6. the free site is http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.com/ You can enroll for free in ther chem class and learn.
  7. http://cmapspublic2.ihmc.us/rid=1210805180212_658515755_36911/Apologia,%20ed%201%20Chemistry.cmap It is part of the free homeschooling website. It is a video concept map, it explains everything just great! hope that helps, K ps
  8. I just want to know how to search. I don't want to read ALL the posts just to find out if someone created a descriptive enough 'subject line' for me to find it. For instance I went to the k-8 forum and wanted to look for how people use their tablets, if at all and what they recomend to have... as in educational apps that are not just fluff
  9. Try adding sugar! I know I know... and ad a good hot jalape~o, with a can of tomatoes.
  10. I got the K-2nd and the 1st grade daily and I am trying to put together for this year... hmmmm Books are hard to get from the library... anyone else having the same trouble? I got some from paperbackswap. but I can't wait forever for these books. I am trying to substitute with whatever the library has on that time frame, but I feel I am missing out on the "classical" and "best language expossure" to the kids. I asked my librarian for stories set in ancient times... she stared at me and just had one author, the marathon story basically. I tried to combine the lists of HUFI and AO, and see for overlap... they all agree on Little house in the big woods, by Wilder. have you found it easy to find books?
  11. hi, avoid the teas! they dehydrate you a lot. stick with cold water and ice chips. really! a coworker ended up in the hospital two times for dehydration. the second time docs said NO sweet tea!have u heard of the wet (well spun by the washer) sheet. either cover with it or put a fan beind it.
  12. I am selling my house and I had similar question on the cabinets in the kitchen. as I researched around town, the experts told me if I wanted to do it, I had to use a sprayer to evenly paint them, or it would not look good. I painted all the doors white, I cannot tell you how hard that was, I cannot imagine how hard it would have been to get all the groves even. Another suggestion that I got was to re-stain it redish, dark red. I have seen bathrooms and kitchens that color and are gorgeous! Staining is easier seems to me... I had to paint those doors so many times, primer, then white (please use satin) any thing less looks terrible. at the end use a roller, to even out the strokes. Good luck ps. I left my cabinets alone, I used a revitalizing wood treatment, and they look just fine.
  13. If you use Continuous Ink Systems is even cheaper! Google CIS for your printer and see if it is available. When I was going to go for a black and white laser printer due to the amount of copying we do...some blessed soul talked me out of it and try a color ink jet with the CIS system, we still have the same ink we bought a year and a half ago.... and I print in color! :001_smile:
  14. Do you have an ISBN for either? I am doing something wrong, and I can't find them...
  15. thank you all for answering my unspoken question of almost 6 yrs. I always thought of if funny that my child could not sleep through the night and the new baby could! THANK YOU, for letting me know that it is "normal" My child is really gifted, socially has some issues, mainly too stubborn to conform to the crowd. It is getting better. DOn't know if related or not, but we took RED 40 die out of the picture due to rash, but I dare say at around the same time, sleeping became a once a week sort of thing, rather than a daily thing. I would like to subscribe to this thread and keep h earing what you all do, and what happens..... :bigear:
  16. as Dr Gary Chapman says... ask the guy what one thing you can do for him this week that he would appreciate.... then hubby will tell you... then you DO IT the BEST you can... then next week you come close to him and ask him what other One thing would help him the upcoming week, etc... you do this to the BEST you can , then one day, he's gonna ask you... hunny, what thing can I do for you? then you just say. Oh, hunny, I love you so much if you don't leave the beer cans out this week, I would really love that. CHOOSE ONE thing, then keep with your asking and then he will ask you.... be patient.... you are showing love, and respect and the dude will not know what hit him! He has a radio program and a website, you might want to browse
  17. I don't know if you can with http://timelineindex.com/content/search.php?pageNum_rsSite=0&totalRows_rsSite=205&s=Scientists&sb_x=0&sb_y=0&so=a&filter=1273 you might...
  18. I suggest that you start at home, where you and your kiddos can see the difference. there are those that are able and CAN give more... since it sounds that you are having a heart opening, start at home small, and then if you want to can have a garage sale and give the proceeds to a ministry in a one time basis, and if you and your kiddos/hubby catch the "bug", you might end up in a mission trip or so, then your kiddos will save up for that, etc. Small for us has been buying bunnies / chickens for the poor in Asia, helping the gospel for asia... one time a year... since we cannot afford even Starbucks... Then another year was ANGEL TREE! my 3yr old and 5yr old, got it!!! got the idea of buying for someone with out a mami or daddy that can buy a present. so we did it, and delivered it.... They walked to the salvation army and gave their present to be wrapped. my 3yr old, didn't want to... so he gave his walmart bag, with toys he had chosen for another 3yr old... saying... "its not for me" The most debilitating, freezing thing you can do is do nothing, and feel guilty. do a little and see if you like it...
  19. could you go and give her her meds? It is usuallyl not a good idea to change things on kids, specially meds. Dunno about that medicine. but that might be a good thing to try get it to the child. Not a good idea to go on withdrawal and a new setting. Benedryl however, I think unless you know how it reacts with your child maybe OK. but if your kid has never had it , then it could react in a different manner. Praying for you mama and ur LO
  20. also good books, there is the latest one,,, something about the heart... that would be great
  21. Wheather legal or not, if the immigrant is under the age of 18 is better to start any process. If he can get into the military, and many can and do, then he can get a citizenship for serving the country. that is a good idea. He would need to spend no more than $100/hr and you need only one hour, to talk to a immigration lawyer, they are often advertize in latin stations, sorry if your friend is not latin, but call the latin station and they will give you a few names I am sure. After that the lawyer can advice and then you do what he says. make sure to ask the lawyer the specific forms you need to fill out, and then do it. You don't have to go with the lawyer to do it for you. unless you have the cash. For sure follow the law, don't need a DL to drive a scooter, at least in some states. Bikes, as in bicycles, are a good and healthy way of transportation.
