  1. I was hoping for under a $100 but I saw one on Amazon that was $129 that tempted me.
  2. Right now I'm working in a room where the only light is natural coming from one shaded window. It's hard to tell how well the repairs are going with so little light. Can anyone recommend a work light? I think I'd like it to be on a stand but that's because I don't know how well the ones that sit on the floor might work. I also don't want to put a lot of money into this. I'm sure we'll get more use from the light but not on a regular basis. We aren't really DIYers so this room that I'm doing is out of the ordinary for us.
  3. What about a photo album? You don't need to do a scrapbook and just use one of those albums where you can slip in the pictures. Here and there, wherever it is meaningful, you can take a piece of cardstock cut to fit in one of the photo sleeves and write what those pictures mean to you or a funny memory or whatever is special to you. This gives it a little personalization and I bet the kids will love to look back on it too.
  4. Our vet put our kitty with the urinary issues on a prescription cat food, which I then ordered from Chewy and signed up for their autoship. Unfortunately, my cat won't eat the food. The other cats love it and the vet said it's okay for them to eat but I don't want to keep ordering the expensive cat food for kitties that don't need it. So when it was time for the autoship to send more food, I cancelled it or at least I thought I did. By the time I realized I did it wrong, the food was already on the way. Since the food is expensive, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask Chewy if I could return it. Not only did they refund me the money but they told me to donate the food. I hate shipping things so this is a double win for me. I'm just thrilled at how easy that was, especially since it was all my fault.
  5. I gave the majority of mine to a homeschool coop. Just recently, I found a few more things that just don't seem right to throw out but I no longer know anyone to give it to. I tried Goodwill because I would have been thrilled to find something like that there but they won't take it. Ugh.
  6. I don't put mayo on my plate for fries but if some has dripped off my other food, usually mixed with ketchup, I will and I like it.
  7. I'm usually pro formal name. I have one - Alexander on his birth certificate but called Alex all his life. But in your case, where the majority of people would not realize that the name is a nickname, I would go with the nickname. It seems it would be more complicated in formal situations to spell and sound out both for a name that most people aren't familiar with.
  8. Oh, absolutely! Some times my heart will hurt with the missing of them. I love who they are now and spending time with them as adults but it's almost as if they are two people. The little person and the big person. I love them both like crazy.
  9. We always have an Amazon box or two in the floor for the cats. The last box we got was teeny tiny and I was slightly laughing to myself as I put it in the floor. We had bets going to see who would try to get in it first. I won and it was hysterical seeing her trying to fit her big butt into that tiny box.
  10. This is good to know. Having 5 cats, I often, good naturedly, refer to myself as a crazy cat lady. Though technically, DH is responsible for the last 4. The man, who hated cats when we got married, now has so much empathy for the outdoor cats that not only did he bring in 4 but now is caring for 2 more outdoors, which I do not claim and do not consider us having 7 cats. Just nope. Uh uh, no way. LOL Either way, it's good to know I don't fall into the official crazy cat lady category.....yet.
  11. Um, this is very close to how we ended up with our 5th cat. The final impetus was a hurricane bearing down on our city and the fact that the outdoor kitty had lost all his siblings, but we are practically 100% positive that this 5th cat is half sibling to our 4th, on the dad's side. We think 5th cat is either sibling to our 3rd or is the 3rd's nephew. I bring up the 3rd cat because she has taken on a motherly role for the 5th. It's very sweet to watch and they spend almost all day side by side. So if you have the space for a 5th cat, then I vote yes for taken on orange kitty. Speaking of orange kitties, I was watching a video the other day that was saying orange cats fall into one of two categories: funny and goofy or an @sshole. LOL My experience has always been with the funny and goofy ones. Great cats!
  12. I am just so very sorry! I can't even imagine....my heart breaks for you.
  13. The Princess Bride. I found it to be out loud funny and the story telling sweeps me up.
  14. I discovered that our library does an adult summer reading program, as well as one for the kids. I'm thinking I might just do that. I really had a lot of fun with their reading challenge earlier this year so I'm hoping this will be a lot of fun too.
  15. Today is my eldest's 35th birthday. 35! I don't know if that qualifies as making me happy though LOL but I am happy about getting to hang out with him today.
  16. If you sew or quilt, my most trusted online source for fabric is The Fat Quarter Shop. I always look there first with the hope they carry what I want. There is an English Paper Piecing project I'm beginning and I could easily have bought it from the source, but I had never shopped there, so I went to The Fat Quarter Shop instead. This means I'm getting it later than many others who are starting this project and now know that shop can be a trusted source, but FQS makes me feel safe.
  17. Such a heartbreaking decision, especially when it's not emergent, making the decision obvious. My cat has a disease that causes her to pee frequent small puddles outside of her box, usually on my bed. We have it mostly controlled with medication but there are recurrences and each time I wonder if this is the time we have to put her to sleep. I can't have a cat peeing on my bed and just thinking that makes me feel guilty. So I totally understand how putting this cat to sleep might cause you guilty feelings. It seems more like a convenience for your sake rather than for her sake but that's not the case, at all. If a cat is urinating outside of the box, then she is not feeling well. And if she is doing it right in front of you, then she is really not feeling well. It pains me to say this but I agree with everyone else - it is time and I am so very sorry about that! Hugs!
  18. I've tried one after confirming it could be used alongside Alexa but I keep having the problem with the book skipping backwards. Just all of a sudden, the book will go backwards about 20 minutes. Not always the same amount of time but always enough that I'm aggravated by having to listen to it again. Because while I can use Alexa, I don't have the fine tuning abilities like I do with Audible. With Audible, if I thought a book glitched backwards 20 minutes, then I could just tell Alexa to go forward 20 minutes, not so with Chirp. Using Chirp via Alexa, I can skip chapters but not time. Has anyone else had problems with Chirp glitching when using it with Alexa? Maybe it was just that particular book. The prices are so much cheaper than an Audible credit that I'd like to buy more but not if this is an ongoing problem.
  19. When our children were small and playing in our backyard, we heard our cocker spaniel raising a ruckus. Such a ruckus, that DH and I both went running to see what was wrong, as did our next door neighbors who had been inside their house as well. We find the dog snapping and jumping at something on the ground and, when we investigate, we realize it is a water moccasin. Holy crap! That could have gone all kinds of bad, but thankfully with the help of a neighbors we were able to dispatch the snake, and no one, including the dog, was harmed. We do not live next to water, wetland, or even a woodland. Just your basic suburban home. It was strange and very, very scary.
  20. She might look into other vets in her area that are "low cost" yet have someone on staff that can perform a surgery of that nature. We are lucky enough to have one place in the city that was able to operate one of our cats in an emergency. Not only was the cost much less but they still knocked more money off for us. We had just put a lot (A LOT) of money into another cat so we were really at the end of our tether so we used something like CareCredit for the rest but it's one specifically for animals. I'm sorry I can't remember the name and I'm truly sorry her and her baby and going through this.
  21. I also agree that you'll know. It's been about 4 years since we put my dog to sleep and I'm just now, within the last 6 months or so, ready for another. But I also had other 4 pawed critters that offer me the love and comfort a pet brings and I think that might have kept me from looking for another canine companion. So yes, whenever it is, sooner or later you'll know and you'll be ready. Hugs to you all! When we had to put our last 2 pets to sleep, it was an emergency so we needed to go to an emergency vet, besides our vet being closed because one was Christmas Eve (and night to boot) and the other was New Year's Eve. What surprised me was the caring from them, as well. The vet who put our dog to sleep was in tears herself. You know that being an emergency vet office that this must me a daily and quite possibly and multiple times a day thing for them but yet they were kind, thoughtful, and compassionate. I couldn't be more thankful to them. I'm thankful to all vets, yours especially right now, for being such good people.
  22. I just finished listening to Hatch, Dragons of Laton by James Stevens. So good! It seemed as if the story went out of it's way not to be gory, sad or sexualized. No swearing, either. I can only recall one sad moment but since it didn't involve a main character, it wasn't as sad as it could have been. So this book would be great for older children. I truly enjoyed it as an adult. If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can get it for free there.
  23. I'm having a both kind of day. The plan is to start the day at a local quilt shop and then visit with my parents for a little while. After that is a stop at Walmart, then home to continue my deep cleaning spree.
  24. I am so incredibly sorry! That is one of the hardest acts of love there is.
