  1. This is me, too. I am almost , but not 100%, "face blind."
  2. I think she is a fraud. If she thought you were truly a dangerous person, enough to warrant her crossing herself for protection, she would avoid you, not try to provoke you. She saw an easy target in a Muslim mom with kids on which to make a political point. As a Mormon, I can tell you people do the same to us. We are seen as mild and nice, and so it is safe to make a very insulting broadway play about us without fear of much fuss from us. Bunch of cowards. Don't let those types get you down. They are bullies.
  3. Many youth orchestras require a private teacher on top of whatever school or group instruction a student might have. It is a thing with everything.
  4. A longer school day, shorter summer and still a bunch of homework - nope. I would like to see is a shorter school day, less busy work, and an end to robbing kids of all of the free time they need to develop as creative, whole people with a family life. Tons of time spent on buses is a shame too, I think. Poor kids. I think we just start with: school is for education, not daycare. After that, it's up to parents to decide how best to handle their kids.
  5. Agreed! I like the kids having friends, but having them on the same street always felt claustraphobic to me. I like to have defined control of social time. I get it.
  6. A friend sells hers for $3/ dozen. Buy local!
  7. We wear our Keens as soon and as late as possible every year.
  8. We really like Orijen. I would avoid Blue Wilderness/Blue Buffalo.
  9. I have a huge protective streak and no problem with scorched earth where scorched earth is due. I have a great deal of scorn for people or systems who rugsweep or blame victims to "keep the peace" or whatever other lame reason they have. I know many LDS folks who feel the same. I will protect the small or abused first period. I couldn't be pals or civil, frankly, with a rugsweeper. I can imagine how OP feels.
  10. Um, I would report both. Someone who witnesses and does nothing is just as bad to me. This infuriates me. So sorry that happened.
  11. I assure you, the feeling is mutual. Just because others don't agree with a particular point of view or definition, doesn't mean they should figuratively or otherwise have it "educated" into them 2,000 times until they change their minds.
  12. I rarely post (on FB) anymore. It is also depressing to read juvenile posts, and it is depressing to think of all of the judgement going on about posts, too...human nature. It is just - tedious. Exhausting. Too hard. I would rather hang with my dog or work in the garden. I have been irritated by FB holdouts in the past, but I get it now.
  13. I feel this way about my MIL. Her three golden children need to be prepared to care for her. My husband is obviously a scapegoat who she parentified. He did his duty picking up after her emotionally and otherwise instead being allowed to be a child himself for years. Yeah, all done. It was always clear our kids were an afterthought or not even a thought, and she made it obvious. I feel no obligation to her at all.
  14. I had about 20,000, but I purged about 3 weeks ago.
  15. Jello will be alive and well as long as Mormons keep having big families. I say this as a Mormon who can poke good-natured fun at my people. Jello is a big thing in Utah. AKA the jello belt. ;)
  16. I will never, ever defend a child molester, but I am amazed that it is ok to condemn a whole group by the actions of some members, as long as the group is conservative and/or Christian. Typical double standard, throwing the "cult" word around and the like. In some pockets of other religions, women who are molested are blamed and even stoned or lashed for it. Yet it would be wrong to blame all members in that philosophy for the actions of some. When you look into the abyss, it also looks into you. Don't become what you are fighting against.
  17. If that's true, then many channels deserve to be skewered. MTV comes to mind. Or ESPN that features teams that keep seriously criminal football players on the payroll. The list would be *really* long.
  18. My husband keeps making income leaps so I will probably not go back to a 8-5 type of job ever. I may freelance or write.
  19. Not what you asked but I went the other way. My husband and kids have so much ARFID and allergies that my food life has shrunk to pitiful levels. It is depressing!
  20. That is a powerful, brave blog post. It was overwhelming to read, but I am so glad to have been able to read it. Sending you many healing thoughts. It is good for all of us to get shaken up out of our petty concerns, and posts like this certainly make the important priorities clear. :grouphug:
  21. Oh and by the way, I don't agree with anyone saying all women are the cause of society's ills, all black people are the cause of society's ills, all Muslims are the cause of society's ills or all gay people are the cause of society's ills, either. It's just so wrong.
