  1. Most days, we do breakfast on our own. We have cereal, frozen breakfast burritos, or smoothies for quick breakfasts. Today we had sausage and pancakes, but we have nothing to do. Lunch, we do planned overs (as my mom calls them :) ). Kids make their own pbj, chicken nuggets, and fruit. Some days I make MAC n cheese, or grilled cheese. DH and I make beans and rice some days. I do crock pot dinners 3 days a week. Otherwise, I have some basic quick meals DH or I can throw together. Once a week I cook fancy, time consuming yumminess. Yesterday, it was Fajitas, last week lasagna. Snacks are granola, fruit, appleaauce, carrots, cheese sticks. Anything ready to eat. Eating healthy does not require cooking three meals a day.
  2. I did an internship in another state. I did not get a new DL and I did not register my car, just kept my plates. My parents were still in charge of my medical care. A good friend did hook me up with an amazing family who I went to church with and ate dinner with a couple of times. Had I needed immediate help, I would have called them until my parents could get there. That is all she needs. A friend to call if she does get sick or hurt. If you know anyone in the area, just make sure she has that emergency contact. If you don't know anyone, she will make friends at work.
  3. We have been on a break. DS has been begging to watch Khan Academy and has learned more about fractions.than we will cover in his math book this year! He has also started watching Mythbusters and other sciency shows instead of cartoons. I don't know what will happen next week....
  4. The Spelling book does have a list of words to expand the spelling lists provided. The words are divided into families. I find that useful.
  5. I use the books on a three week rotation. Week one- spelling Monday we pretest The rest of the week, we rewrite missed words and discuss rules Week two - dictation 2 sentences a day to match the list from the.previous week Week three - homophones 3 days, one page a.day I did not start with homophones until we reached the third grade lists in spelling and dictation. I accelerated my son by doing 2-3 lessons a week until he started missing words. We have covered k-2nd lists in 1 year and syaryed third grade lists this year.
  6. I have some canned salmon, but I dont know what to do with it. I had no idea there could be bones!! Now I will have to check. I have not opened a can because I cannot find any recipies. We normally just eat fresh fillets from the meat market! What do you do with the cans?
  7. We do separate spelling and grammar programs, I use McGuffey readers solely as a read aloud. He reads me a lesson a day, half if it is long. He.answers.the questions. I correct pronunciation and we go over words he does not understand.
  8. We have never said goodbye to our neighbors. We have not been close to anyone we lived near. When we left the house we lived in for 20 years growing up, we said goodbye, but our neighbors came.out to see us off, we did not go knocking on doors.
  9. If she goes to PS, the other kids are likely all in her class at school. Your younger child was not invited because of age.
  10. Twice, I have visited churches on very special Sundays. One time they were announcing the Resignation of the music minister who had had an affair. But we do always give a church at least two Sunday services....just in case we hit a weird day. We go to the service for a few weeks. We did not try a small group until we knew we liked the church.
  11. We did it last year and we are doing the one for SOTW 2 this year. My son loves it! Some components are out of order, but they are clearly labeled, so we can look at them in order.
  12. I woke up light headed, congested, and still exhausted...here comes the cold my theatre students had last week...as long as I avoided the stomach bug, I will be fine!
  13. We have had 2 in 12 years. Our first, a Hoover bag vaccum, died after 2 years. The second is a Hoover ballets that I picked up at Walmart for $40. It is going strong, even vacuumed a nail and some sawdust with it. The nail punctured a belt....oops!
  14. For a theater history test in college the professor have us 26 possible essay questions. The test would be m/c, short answer, and 2 essays. He said of we studied to write an essay for each question, we would do well. I used my textbook and wrote an outline for each question. I studied the outlines. I made 100% on the test. My ability to extract ideas from the text and organize them into an outline allowed me to prepare efficiently for that, and many other tests. Outlining is an important skill for studying.
  15. I play two chapters a week from the cd. I play them at least three times. The first day he colors the map for the first chapter, the second he does the map for the second chapter. Sometimes he does the other sheets. On Friday we do the test together as a review worksheets and then we do lapbook sections for each chapter.
  16. Wow! So, because I have watch my shopping budget, I am not a responsible adult? Just being a responsible adult does not mean you have enough money to buy what ever you want. I work, Dh works...we still have to watch what we spend - and we both have college degrees.
  17. We did not give it to our kids because they were miserable enough without adding the possibility of nausea and vomiting and diarrhea! Plus, you have to start it within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. DS was one week in and DD was 3 days. There are also some more rare, but very scary side effects for kids. Read the website posted, it is very informative.
  18. Nope. We have one more full week off then two weeks of theatre performances during which we will do very minimal school.
  19. I am making coasters for my mom right now because we are having Christmas this weekend. Take the cheap bathroom tiles, and modge modge or use lamination glue to cover pictures on the tiles. I also put cork on the bottom. Easy! It does take a couple of days to be sure the 2-3 coats are set. I want to make vanilla and vanilla sugar for next year, O will need two big bottles to get my whole family and have some left for me :)
  20. I loved the Coca Cola museum and the CNN tour.
  21. DS: beyblades and a staduim and battleship DD: hello kitty trouble game and a dream light! She LOVES the dreamlight and has thanked me for It every 30 minutes all day! I live all the hugs!
  22. We have a Wii, DS, iPod, and a webkinz account from the toys they have been given. No non-school.screen.time until 3:30 m-f. I set the time based on when they would be getting home if in public school. This means we end up with days of no Wii or tv because they go out to play when their friends get home or because we leave for after school activities. Weekends and holidays are unlimited. They are not sedentary at our house! My son jumps and runs with his characters. I like that the Wii games are family friendly, active, and even educational. We have Wordjong, my son loves that one. We have gone for walks together with Wii fit when it was raining. I have no problem with them in moderation.
  23. This is what people around here say. Flu is aches, chills, fever; stomach flu or stomach bug refers to throwing up.
