  1. Well....my cookies are ready, tart is ready, rolls are rising well, need to make a pumpkin pie....everyone should be here by 6....except our turkey....which will be arriving at 7:15....someone is always late. Last year, it was the mashed potatoes....oh well, time to heat up some cider and rotel to hold us over.
  2. He will practice multiplication in the money and measurement word problems. Previous concepts are reviewed constantly, it is just not labeled that way.
  3. 1. I want to make an olive relish to go with pita and hummus. I have green olives, olive oil, several kinds of vinegar, and plenty of other goodies. Maybe some roastee red peppers.....I would love some ideas. 2. We got pumpkins when we visited the pumpkin patch. I baked two of them and realized one was spaghetti squash. I found a "mock coconut pie" using spaghetti squash. Any other ideas? We don't like it as pasta.
  4. Ours was cheap....maybe $25. It is nearly 12 years old. I would like a new one that does 4 pieces of bread....but not until this one dies..
  5. Must have: family, and lots of it! And my chocolate truffle tart....I might be booted out of the family if I did not make it. It is truffle filling in a chocolate pie crust!!
  6. We had someone at a sleep over who had very sick siblings, mom came to pick up kid with a feverish child, stayed for an hour to chat....all attendes and families ended up VERY sick. My kids were down for 10 days! Don't take a sick kid to a family event. Be thoughtful of other people. Maybe he will be better to travel in a couple days and you can have your visit a little late.
  7. The two times this year that we planned for all of our family (dh has 6 sibs + spouses and 19 kids total, my parents, sis, and bil) to our house (DS' bday and Thanksgiving) I got sick 5 days before hand. A fever and aches that kept me in bed for 24+ hours.....totally messed up my cleaning schedule!!! I was supposed to be prep cooking today, but I still had a fever this morning, so I am catching up on the cleaning that should have been done yesterday!
  8. Can he type? Teach him.to type efficiently, teach him to sign his name, and work on being able to wrote enough to fill out and application. If he wants to go to college, he will need to get the proper paperwork to have extended time and writing help on exams. I do not think handwriting is as big a deal as it used to be. I want my kids to have nice penmanship, but it is not the end of the world if they don't. If therapy helps, great! But don't stress him with handwriting to the point that his learning suffers. You can learn a lot without writing.
  9. Mine did it once, there was no next page. Otherwise, it works for me.
  10. I always did 50 per page, I loved that. But, yes, it was annoying when someone said a page rather than a post number, I never could find them :)
  11. Right, I did say that there was no reporting in my original post. I do still keep some records. This year, I know what day we started. I have one curriculum that is 36 weeks, 5 lessons a week. When we finish that, I know we will have completed our days. We will however complete everything else sooner :) The chance of being questioned in OK is minimal, but I want to get in the habit now of keeping records so that keeping records for high school is not a big shock :)
  12. We always went to my grandparents's house Christmas Day. We would open presents, leave by noon and be there by 4or5 pm. Now, we go to my grandparents the Saturday after Christmas. As a family, we all spend the night at my parent's house and do Christmas morning there. We eat lunch and then go to dinner with DH's siblings. This is less stressful for is than getting up and drivig anywhere. We do Christmas in our pjs :) I would not give up the time my kids get with grandparents and great grandparents. They only see one set of grandparents (fil lives in the Philippines) and my maternal grandparents are the only living great grandparents they have. Yes, it can be stressful at times, but usually, it is a fun and relaxing day. It is what you make it. If you dread it, of your family does not get along and is stressful to be around; don't go. My parents and sister want a relaxing day too. DH's submits are all laid back, too. They all do the in law thinkin the morning, so we just hang out and eat all evening.
  13. There was a lot of spam before. Some mornings I would log in and there would be multiple new threads that were spam.
  14. Oklahoma changed the attendance law in recent years from 180 days to 1080 hours. They did this so that they don't have to make up snow days. They added 15 minutes to each school day. One of my dance students now has a year round test prep class for the end of year exams! We don't have to report anything, so I just track days instead of hours. If I needed to, I know that we spend an average of 2 hours a day on school work, 1 hour a day (at least) on PE and music, plus reading and life skills (helping to cook, shop, and make grocery lists). He spends an hour a week in at class and I would count all the hours from summer theatre camp. It is not just seat work, count all of your learning activities. PS hours include PE, music, recess, lunch, some free time in class, reading time in young grades, and art. That is at least half their day.
  15. Thank you!! I love the mobile version! I don't have to zoom in any more, and it is so much faster!!
  16. No. We do 2 hours max with my 7 year old for 2nd grade. 3 days a week I do 15-30 minutes with my 4 year old. It just depends on her focus. I don't feel guilty because I know my 7yo is way ahead of his peers and my 4yo is right on track. As others said, the focused one on one study is worth more than class instruction.
  17. Thanks for the tip about the mobile version!! Now I can post from my phone. I have been on the full site all day and did not notice anything distracting. Same as the poster above, a little blue and white around the text. I do really like the mobile version!!!
  18. I usually read and post from my phone. I cannot reply right now from my phone, only read. I hope that glitch is fixed soon. I guess I don't see the issues with "white space." I like the way it looks. I don't like that the names and avatars are not above the actual post anymore. On my phone, I have to scroll side to side to see who wrote a post. It is a little slow, but I have not had many issues. I would never stop coming to such a helpful forum because I did not like some changes. I have my FB settings pretty private, but I have shared a post or two with friends on FB. It is a public board. I have been a part of a paid, private board. It was incredibly active and helpful until it became paid and private. Now it is pretty slow.
  19. Our whole family will be here for dinner next Thursday, I am saving yhe master bedroom for later. I am tackling the entry closet. It is a huge pile of junk!! It will actually take me a couple of hours, but I will get it done. Stuff is going to the attic, the studio, and trash!
  20. Butter Braids! Yummy Yummy stuff! We had 15 kids profit $1300!
  21. Just say no. Our Homeschool group does one organized trip a month and we may do one morr, like the zoo or the science museum. We do weekly coop 25 of our 36 weeks of school. 3 trips in one week is too much if you do that weekly!
  22. I found batteries yesterday! Lots of double a's!!!! I don't have silver ware drawers to clean out, we have very little excess there....but the kids silverware drawer is a mess!
  23. I wore mine on my left ring finger, like a wedding ring. It was a silver ring, no diamond.
