  1. I'm so very sorry she is gone but glad you were able to be with her in these last days. I cannot fathom your pain but know that we are all holding you up.. hugs. May your sister rest in peace
  2. That is so adorable. I love it too.
  3. Thank you for the update. Glad everything is going well with the new chemo.
  4. It is terribly annoying. I would never have thought I had hearing loss... but maybe I should have it checked out.
  5. And I can't fathom how you hear Laurel it's so clearly Yanny to me. Actually it's yeeanny in my ear.
  6. I agree. It's a great book. I also highly recommend "How We Die" by Nuland.
  7. congratulations to both your daughters. That is outstanding.
  8. Hugs.. that's so hard. I had a rough week last week with dh. He's 5 yrs away from his car accident and severe concussion. He's never quite been the same but mostly he's okay. Last week it seemed to all come crashing down. He's better again this week but it made me realize once again how fragile the brain is and how much our "golden years" may be very different than I envisioned when I was nearly married. Agreeing with the OP. Watching the slow decline and humiliation of aging parents is heart-wrenching. I keep asking myself,... why do we work so hard to live longer??!! Give me a quick out with pneumonia at 80 please.
  9. I have yet to do a full-blown group project, but I've had to listen to each of my kids complain about it from high school through college. I also think they're a waste of time and a cop-out for teachers.. My plan is to complain if any teacher has them on RateMyProf. as well as the in-college teacher reviews that we do.
  10. MinivanMom - curious how church went today. Did you have any encounters with this other mom?
  11. I know this is very hard... we are taught as women and as Christians that being nice is sacrosanct. You really need to be blunt and well...rude with this person. You have our permission. If you want to be safe, tell the head of the women's ministry what you plan is (in case this woman does try to gaslight you, etc.). Obviously, she's aware that this person is a problem for the whole group anyway. hugs... I know it's hard for some of us to stand up for ourselves - esp. when we're blindsided.
  12. I am unphotogentic. I can kind of pull it off sometimes but definitely nothing candid. I've also noticed that as I've aged it's gotten worse. I really try to avoid the camera My dad is probably one of the most photogenic persons I know. Even when he's making faces he looks totally natural and great. He cannot take a bad picture. To the point where I felt that he really should have moved us to LA and pursued an movie acting career (he did local theater when I was little).
  13. These are such great ideas. I'm compiling a list for them. I knew I could count on the hive for help.
  14. I told her it sounded like a lot of gifts. I also told her a lot of people like to give money as a gift.
  15. My DIL-to-be asked me if I had any unique or unusual wedding gift ideas they could add to their registry. Someone told her she should have at least 150 items on her list and I think it's got them stumped. She and my son already both have apartments which they will be combining so normal things like pots and pans and cutlery are already covered. She's already got a Kitchen Aid and other "normal" things on her registry. We were wracking our brains today trying to think of things people might not consider (we thought of spice sets - yay). I thought I'd come to the hive, since neat ideas abound with this group
  16. So many people love Mama's Family sketches. I never liked them and never watched the spin-off show either. It's one of those things that used to make me wonder what was wrong with me because so many people loved it. ?
  17. Gone with the Wind parody is a classic as is her Nora Desmond (although it helps to know the movie). I loved CB when I was a teen. I loved the Mrs. Wiggins character the most. The Oldest Man as a Galley Slave is pretty great too. Loved Tim Conway and Harvey Korman together. Just youtube those.
  18. I've have diverticulitis and was in the hospital for a tear (thank God I was able to avoid surgery) a few years ago. It still took me some time to fully recover, even though I avoided the knife. Hugs for you.
  19. I've always understood it to mean humble.
  20. oh my Lord - me too. And he represents a Christian group of some kind? Terrible. I don't think I count as "Bible believing Christian" anymore either.
  21. Soror - do you have any scientific links that support this? I have also heard that research proves this out, but if I google info it all seems to be on websites by "doctors" who are selling books or supplements. ? When I asked the PA at my endo's office about it (I have Hashi and I've been having some increased issues) she said she'd never heard that.
