  1. We are trying to get a formal dysgraphia diagnosis for my son. He has been to our family doctor and gone through a full O.T. consult. Both believe that he has dysgraphia, but they have both said that they cannot formally diagnosis him, so they have referred us to the local public school system. Has anyone had any luck getting a dysgraphia diagnosis through the PS system? I am not even sure who to ask to see? The LD/special ed. department? The school psychologist? Could someone please steer me in the right direction? Thanks much!
  2. I call them by their first names. My mom passed away shortly before I got married, and it was (and still is to a point) just too hard for me to call someone else 'Mom.'
  3. We have both...but I definitely prefer cats. (Thus my avatar ;))
  4. Hmmm...if she is speaking about law vs. gospel - my first guess is that she is looking at a Lutheran church - (possibly LCMS or WELS?) I'm a member of the WELS. It is liturgical, sacramental, and has a very clear distinction of law vs gospel. Regardless - I hope that your new church home blesses you !
  5. Hmmm....well the prankster in me says shaving cream, (ah...college memories ,) but I have a feeling that's not what you're looking for. ;) I like the idea of non-food items because then the allergy kids are on a level playing field. I'd go with stickers, tattoos, little fun erasers, etc.
  6. You could also try calling a pet groomer. (Some of the ones around here advertise that they will also groom cats.)
  7. HOD - Bigger (Bible, history, science, art) ACE Math ACE English R&S Spelling Explode the Code Reading Pathways HWT cursive FIAR (literature and just for fun)
  8. Does anyone here have hermit crabs? If so - have they every killed/eaten their tank mates? Up until last night we had 3 hermit crabs. One has been more aggressive (guards the food) and has grown considerably larger than the other two. He has always picked on the smallest of the crabs, and last night...he turned cannibal. I found a pile of legs and claws this morning, and the big one hovering over it. (It looked like he had a Red Lobster crab-fest ) I wonder if they were just stressed? We haven't changed their diet, but we did recently change their substrate - and the smaller 2 had been burrowing and seemed like they were about to molt. (The larger one just went through a molt, so maybe he was just really hungry? ) I know they typically do better in social pairs, but now I'm wondering if I should move the other medium-sized crab out? They have always gotten along better than the other two - but I'm worried that, with the little one out of the way, the big one may start to pick on him, too. I just would rather not have to have to buy a whole other separate tank (and sand, dishes, etc) WWYD?
  9. Does anyone else have negative physical reactions (headache, nausea, heart palpitations, etc.) from products from Bath and Body Works? It seems lately that no matter what we buy from there: soap, lotion, perfume/body mist, even the hand sanitizer...all of it makes me literally want to hurl. My DD used some of the hand sanitizer and just walked into the room. I can already feel my heartbeat quickening and my head feels like it's in a vise. I feel a need to flee like I'm on the verge of a panic attack. What on earth do they put in their products that would make me feel like this?! :001_huh:
  10. My DD now uses those little foam noise reducing earplugs when she sleeps, but she used to use one of those bands that wraps around (for swimmers) like these http://www.amazon.com/Macks-Band-Swimming-Headband-Pack/dp/B004BKHVZW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1348620636&sr=8-2&keywords=ear+band+for+swimming
  11. Dh has severe asthma so he absolutely gets the shot. (A few years ago he got the flu and we had to make a rush trip to the ER - I honestly thought I was going to lose him. :crying:)
  12. The school she is looking at says that she has to have 3 'lab' classes - but does not specify any particular classes. Since she is not going into a STEM related career, (at this point she wants to go into early childhood ed.,) I was wondering if she has to have more chem, or do you think it would be okay to let her pursue more 'interest led' choices for high school science?
  13. I need help planning a (non-STEM) college prep science sequence for my daughter. If we do PAC's Integrated Physics and Chemistry (plus a custom lab class) this year and we plan on doing Biology with labs next year, (still unsure of what publisher) But what should we do after that? More Chem? Environmental Science? Astronomy?
  14. I was thinking they just moved everyone over to IKEA.
  15. FIAR Volumes 1-4 and all of the accompanying books to go with them. :001_smile:
  16. ISFP - Hmmm...that is interesting. I should have my DH take it.
  17. Yes! I keep a basket of around 30 sharpend pencils on the table at all times - just to avoid that situation. :glare:
  18. Oh.my.goodness - YES! I have my first high schooler this year and I am just...speechless... at the level of cluelessness. DD - "I need help...I can't find the answer" Me: (Opens book - answer is as plain as day in the second paragraph. ) "You really couldn't find that? It's right there. Did you actually do the reading?" DD: "Yes...I just didn't know THAT's what they were asking!" 2 minutes later : DD: "I need help" Repeat ad nauseam
  19. Hmmm...my first thought was maybe a Great Pyranees (?) http://www.google.com/imgres?start=126&um=1&hl=en&safe=active&biw=1440&bih=645&tbm=isch&tbnid=stGWPzYhuvSpOM:&imgrefurl=http://london.canadianlisted.com/dogs-cats/all-white-great-pyrenees-puppies_271597.html&docid=16lmpwP3SaT6XM&imgurl=http://images.canadianlisted.com/nlarge/all-white-great-pyrenees-puppies_4571194.jpg&w=700&h=268&ei=4fBPUID_N8nn0QH20IDwDg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=591&vpy=393&dur=4806&hovh=139&hovw=363&tx=199&ty=98&sig=108308915748914244343&page=6&tbnh=68&tbnw=178&ndsp=26&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:126,i:104
  20. I was wondering about green... Maybe a deep olive shade? Otherwise the barn red sounds nice, too

  22. We painted 3 of our living room walls this weekend. (Goodbye and good riddance to the stark white we've had for the last 7 years!) We chose a darker beige for the 3 walls, DH really wants to do the 4th wall in an accent color, but we just can't decide on which color. We bought a coppery/orange color - but after trying a sample of it tonight, Dh thinks that it's too dark and that it looks like someone vomited carrots on the wall. :tongue_smilie: So...suggestions for other colors we could use? (DH says no black or brown, but he's open to just about anything else.) It feels rather dark in there now - so I'd sort of like a brighter color. Oh and our furniture: we have 1 dark brown sofa, 1 cream colored sofa, and a navy blue recliner. Here is a sample of the new color
  23. Our school didn't have AP or Honors English - this was just their standard English course: Macbeth Hamlet Romeo & Juliette Julius Caesar most of Shakespeare's sonnets Canterbury Tales Beowulf Great Expectations Rebecca Tess of the D'urbervilles Catcher In the Rye One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Ben Hur Of Mice and Men The Grapes of Wrath The Color Purple plus several short stories (Poe, O'Henry, etc)
  24. What about Saxon Math. Doesn't it also include a full credit of geometry in it's algebra 1 and 2 books? If he can complete those books in 2 years - plus the additional upper level math book the following year - that would be equivalent to 4 credits.
  25. We have 2 vehicles, and between the two - my girls (ages 7 and 9) ride harnessed in a Graco Nautilus, a Britax Frontier, and a Britax Regent (which expires in January.)
