  1. I had it done 4 summers ago. Best thing I ever did for myself. I went from a "LL" down to a "C". It greatly reduced my back and neck pain, and even my migraine headaches. The recovery was pretty rough, and I do have extensive scars, but I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.
  2. I have three children that look quite similar, and one that looks a bit different from the rest. My others all look somewhat alike, and resemble my husband and myself to some degree. But my other daughter has a darker complexion, and I do not see a strong resemblance to my husband, myself, or any of our relatives. From the moment she was born everyone said she just looks "like herself."
  3. My 7 year old DD uses an inflatable balance disc - the same one she uses for school to get her 'wiggles' out. It's nice and portable and we find it boosts her up just high enough that she is at a comfortable height. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Altus-Core-Balance-Disc/10270007
  4. When I was a kid, (in WI,) we drank Jolly Good soda. I haven't seen it for years though.
  5. I'm Michelle and I live in Wisconsin. I have four children and we're going to be starting our 7th year of homechooling next fall. I'll have my first highschooler, and I'll admit...I'm terrified. We are rather eclectic homeschoolers, but I'm finding ourselves becoming more 'traditional' with time. For hobbies I like to travel, read, crochet, blog, and do various other crafty things. I mostly lurk here, as I tend to feel a bit shy and overwhelmed - but I sure do appreciate the insight and knowledge of the Hive. :001_smile:
  6. My daughter started out on a violin that we bought off of Craigslist for $25. Was it perfect...no. But it allowed her to learn proper posture and bow hold, and it helped her decide that violin was something she really wanted to pursue. A year later we bought her a better one. One thing we did do with the cheap instrument was to get new/better quality strings for it, and have it professionally set up by a luthier. That helped tremendously.
  7. To the OP....I feel this way all the time. I almost have an anxiety about posting here. And when I finally do work up enough courage to post, (double checking everything to make sure that I'm not 'killing kittens' or posting something that someone would find offensive and 'call me out' on, ) .... no one replies - or one or two at the most. I feel like such a 'wallflower'. :001_unsure:
  8. Thank you! My daughter is not headed for a STEM major, but she does want to go to college, so I think maybe we will look into this type of science for her.
  9. It has never happened to me, but I remember my home ec. teacher WAAAAAY back when telling us about it, and saying that's why you should always crack eggs into a seperate dish and THEN add them to your cake mix, cookies, etc. I have always done that since....just in case!
  10. The high school I attended just had plain Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc. Here I have recently seen refernce to 'conceptual' chemistry and physics. What makes a class 'conceptual?' (or how is it different from a standard/basic science course?) Also - are conceptual classes considered college prep?
  11. My son likes all of the things that you listed. He does not enjoy reading all that much, but this year he has enjoyed the 'junior classics' versions of Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
  12. If you have used this - could you please tell me if there is any sound in the lessons at all? I tried watching a sample lesson and all of it was silent. I expected that the text would not be read, but even the demonstration videos were silent. Is this how the whole program is ?
  13. Different curriculum publishers have placement tests to see where you would place if you use their products. (Saxon, TT, ACE, CLE, and several others) It might give you a general idea where she is placing in each subject.
  14. Oh man - I feel your pain. It happened to us, too - at night...in January...in Wisconsin. It was 20 below, and we had to wait until 3 PM the following day before someone could get there to fix it. :glare: Praying your DH is able to fix it.
  15. To people who know what they are and have seen them before - I think they would be recognizable - but I think that for someone who was unfamiliar with them, they would probably automatically think 'bruises.'
  16. As a former daycare worker in an infant/toddler room, I can also say that plenty of children of middle-eastern descent have them, too. They are quite bruise-like in appearance, and I can see why they would cause alarm if someone did not know what they were. We were told that if they weren't documented in a child's file that we must report all 'suspicious' marks - (and yes, there were several that turned out to be harmless - but IMO it's better to cause a little embarrassment over a birthmark, than to let an infant that actually was being abused fall through the cracks.)
  17. Ooops - I'm sorry :blushing: ( I don't personally own a Kindle, so I guess I didn't pay attention to the details. I just thought this might help a few who do own Kindles. :) )
  18. My DH saw this on Amazon tonight, and I thought it might interest some of you. The Fallacy Detective - free on Kindle for Amazon Prime members http://www.amazon.com/Fallacy-Detective-....39561919&sr=1-1
  19. Can anyone tell me if it is still possible to make a collage on Photobucket? Ever since they reformatted their website several months ago, I cannot figure out how to make a collage anymore. Did they remove that feature? If not - could someone please explain to me how to get to it? Thank you!
  20. Whatever you do, just do not get this audio Bible read by James Earl Jones! http://www.amazon.com/James-Earl-Jones-Reads-Bible/dp/1591502241 Because if you're anything like me....you will never get the image of Darth Vader (or Mufasa) reading scripture out of your head. :tongue_smilie:
  21. The Notgrass family needs your prayers Avery Notgrass (the 18 month old grandson of Ray Notgrass) is seriously ill with an infection, and is on life support. Please lift him and his family up in prayer! His father's facebook wall says "Avery is still on life support but his heart has stopped. Only a miracle will save him now."
  22. Leave them! Do not dig or stir the sand! Do not clean the cage... They are probably molting and crabs are VERY fragile when molting! When we first got our crabs - they literally buried themselves for over a month. We couldn't find them...we had to lift our aquarium up and we could see them down at the bottom, pressed against the glass. They were stressed, and they were molting. I was worried they would starve, but they didn't. They emerged - and they have been very active ever since. Once in awhile they will disappear for a bit, but they emerge a little bigger and just as feisty. You want to make sure they have fresh food and water in case they do come up, and make sure their sand/bedding is always nice and deep (at least 3" deep)
  23. This one hangs in a local gallery. I just love it, and it reminds me of my daughters.
