  1. UPDATE: I received a lovely letter in the mail from DS9's 3rd grade teacher. :hurray: :D
  2. I said not a chance. DH is a PS teacher, so our vacations are all the same. However, even if DH was not a teacher, I wouldn't pull my kids out for vacations.
  3. Alley - girls name Remember on Karate Kid (old one) when Ali introduces herself as "Ali with an i"? Here it is: It's at about 1:20. :)
  4. I don't think it make you a snob and it would bother me too, BUT after having a DH and DS with dyslexia, I now know that these things do not necessarily equal unintelligent/uneducated and I give a lot more grace.
  5. Interesting! I guess the biggest shock to me was how intrusive they were. I think of my food tray as my space. :001_smile: If they had asked for my leftovers, I would've gladly handed them over. Perhaps it happens here, too, but I haven't spent too much time in very large cities in the US (or anywhere else).
  6. Oh good. I wasn't sure with the "glare". Lol. :001_smile: HS'ing was the hardest thing I've ever done and probably will ever do. I give major props to you and all the moms and dads here!!
  7. We read a lot about Paris before we went, but the thing I didn't know about were the Gypsies. We were eating at the outside tables at a McDonald's and they were milling around the table and even grabbed food off my tray as I stood up to leave.
  8. I'm going to answer a little differently. My kids are going to PS in the Fall and I am still going to be a SAHM. I am looking forward to having the time, uninterrupted, to organize our home and our finances, to clean the house, to go to the gym without having to get up super early, to run errands during the day, and other projects I have put off since DS13 was born. :001_smile: I think the costs will be comparable because we will probably spend almost the same on clothing/shoes/backpacks/supplies as we would on curriculum. I don't want to sound like one of those parents that is glad to see the kids go off. I will miss them terribly and relish our afternoons and evenings together. I am fortunate that I can do all my stuff before they get home so I can focus on them after school.
  9. DD10 (5th grade - middle school) would not use these herself, but if a friend had them, would probably think they were cute.
  10. :grouphug: I'll be cheering on the sidelines with you. It is going to be a huge adjustment, but I have peace that it's the right thing to do at the right time. Wishing you peace, too.
  11. Um, wow. Yeah, not the same thing at all. I can't believe you just went there.
  12. I'd rent a beach house for a week and relax. My kids are like fish and would be in 7th heaven.
  13. I actually had a home visit by a teacher as a homeschooler. I had referred DS9 to the PS for a LD eval and she came to our home to observe a lesson because it is part of the requirements. It was weird and I was ill I was so nervous. But she wrote a nice report about us. :001_smile:
  14. It would make me uncomfortable, to be honest, but I'm an introvert and would be really nervous, cleaning like mad, etc. Plus, all that stuff can be posted online and/or emailed/mailed to the home. Parents can meet teachers on Open House and conference nights. I wonder if they are visiting at risk families or families that have been identified in some way. Otherwise, I find it odd.
  15. Update: I never heard back from the school, but I had to get a medical form filled out and bring it back to the school, so I did that today. The principal is on vacation and the secretary didn't appear to remember our situation, even after I reminded her. She did check the computer, which says 3rd grade (what we want), so she said he's registered for 3rd as far as she knows. I also have the copy of the registration form, signed by me, which says 3rd grade. She said I could call back the week of August 13, and the principal would be back from vacation. But, I'm inclined to let sleeping dogs lie because if they want to change it to 4th grade, they'd have to get in touch with me. Right?
