  1. DH is lactose intolerant. He drinks his coffee black and drinks soy milk and has soy yogurt. But he does eat cheese and just a little bit of ice cream (his favorite). Sometimes he pays for it, but he has to decide if it's worth it. :)
  2. I had to go looking for that and found it! You can watch it here. :D
  3. I don't see it as having anything at all to do with hs'ing. We are encouraged to contact our teachers for any concerns at all. This is where I'd start. You are trying to clarify the expectations. See where it goes from there.
  4. Is she in a gifted charter? If so, I have no experience with that. If not, then yes, that is way too much hw for a K'er. And those spelling words seem advanced. Is it seeming like it's too much for your DD? Is she overwhelmed every night? If so, I'd talk with her teacher about it.
  5. Thanks for all the great suggestions! I think I have an idea of what I'm looking for now. There is a local store downtown here that carries brands like Dansko and Clark's, etc, so I'm going to try some of them on with my jeans to see what I like best. Thanks again!
  6. A mattress? That is odd. :001_huh: My kids brought home the catalogs the first week of school. I told them we're not doing it. It just makes introverted me so uncomfortable and it's so overpriced! I will probably donate directly to the PTA instead, since I just found out they welcome those.
  7. I would probably take them out for ice cream (their favorite) or similar treat, just me and them.
  8. I need new shoes for casual, every day wear for fall. I am a jeans girl once the weather turns colder. I have ballet flats and leather boots, but I'm looking for something to wear with jeans instead of sneakers. I'm trying to look a little more put together and I'm planning to get some nicer jeans and tops. My usual always was a T and hoodie. :D I've tried browsing Zappos, but I don't know what I'm even looking for! Any ideas?
  9. What he does say is, "She does not understand authority. When she was growing up nobody made her behave. Now you've got a 13 yo in a 30 yo woman's body. And she is acting like a child. Now, what do you do with that?" Knowing the background of conservative/fundamentalist Christians, what that means to me is, 1. She was not spanked as a child, and 2. her husband is her authority and she ought to "behave". I see Bill's interpretation as an exaggeration (IMO), but he's not out in left field, either.
  10. This one. DH doesn't have the time to do major reno work and we don't have the money to put into it, either. We are renting, but when we buy, we will buy something that is turn-key. Interestingly enough, the number of rooms and the kitchen are two biggies that we will need to be satisfied with as-is.
  11. Uh, yeah, I caught that too. :glare: I wear my *nice* flip flops to church, so I think that's ok. Of course DD wears her flip flops with peace signs on them. Bwahahaha!
  12. I remember I turned on the TV just after the first plane hit. The NBC commentators were speculating about what had happened with their cameras trained on the smoking building. I watched the 2nd plane hit and then there was no doubt. So scary and so sad. :(
  13. I've heard many of these silly things before coming out of fundamentalism, so I'm surprised I had never heard of this before. My DD has many things with peace signs on them. They are very big for the tween set right now. I think peace is good. :coolgleamA:
  14. You will always find there are people you don't get along with or who rub you the wrong way when you're working with other people. <gently> I'm not sure the grass would be greener anywhere else. It may be that you need to develop a bit of a thicker skin. OTOH, I am concerned that you sound depressed and feel that there may be some underlying issues here. Can you talk to your parents about how you're feeling?
  15. :D Enjoy your new dishwasher! We don't have a d/w, but we're renting. The landlord pays our water and I don't complain about the d/w because he allows us to have a washer/dryer and I do umpteen loads of laundry a week. :)
  16. What I do is simply put the pork in the cooker, sprinkle with seasonings, put a bit of water in and cook on low for 8 hours or so. I usually do it with a roast, so you may use less time for what you have. Then I drain the liquid and shred with a meat fork. It falls apart easily. I mix in BBQ sauce and serve on buns.
  17. The PTA does the fundraising at my kids' schools. We have already gotten catalogs sent home. But I refuse to go around the neighborhood and sell this stuff. My neighbors pay high taxes for the school already. What I will do is the other fundraisers like special snacks the kids can buy, etc. Our supplies needed for the school were minimal, but we did donate all the optional supplies like paper goods, Clorox wipes, highlighters, dry erase markers, and the like.
  18. Floradix worked great for me. I did two "shots" a day. IIRC, the next time we checked my hemoglobin it was up where it needed to be (maybe two weeks).
