  1. It is a fun degree to get, but if you are going into graduate work make sure you specialize your BA/BS toward the graduate program you want. I have a BS in Sociology, all of my upper division elective credits are in criminology. If you are looking at advocacy, you want to look at criminology, mental illness, women and children, and victims rights. Don't waste your credits on advanced globalization for instance. You can steer what your degree looks like. The other thing, a lot of colleges now have a university program that all under graduates take. A seminar that leads to a big project. Look for one with a community outreach part. I ended up mentoring teen parents at an alternative High School for a year. Not only was it a good experience, but it is a great time to start networking. You can talk to the people working there about the grad programs and job opportunities in the area.
  2. She could just be a visual learner. I am not so good at picturing things, I like to look at them, touch them, move them around etc.... Check out some things, but it might just be her learning style. My ds is an auditory learner, it is not a ld, just different to my learning style, and I make adjustments for it. Best of luck, but try not to worry.
  3. Here are her titles 9 January 1982 – 29 April 2011: Miss Catherine Elizabeth Middleton 29 April 2011 – present: Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge[89] in Scotland: 29 April 2011 – present: Her Royal Highness The Countess of Strathearn Catherine's full title and style is Her Royal Highness Princess William,[90] Duchess of Cambridge,[89] Countess of Strathearn, Baroness Carrickfergus So, she is a Princess. I think Diana started to be referred to as Princess Diana after she gave birth to William. At that point although she was not born a Princess, she was then related to the future monarch by blood. When Charles and Diana divorced she gave up the HRH part of her title, but was able to stay Princess of Wales as the blood parent to the heir. I *think* That Kate will be able to be referred to as Princess Catherine once she has a child. Any child as the queen has ruled that their first born child will be monarch, even if it is a girl.
  4. Welcome. We are eclectic too. This is my only internet forum, so I am always putting my foot in it, but I am still allowed, so jump on in.
  5. cool, we are a dissecting family here too. It is a dogfish shark(warning to others, this does have a photo of a dissection specimen) http://www.hometrainingtools.com/dogfish-shark-18-22-double/p/PM-DOGFISH/
  6. There is so much info on here about different ways to use SOTW. (Integrating with SL, TOG, MFW etc...) Look at Satori Smiles blog, that is always a good place to start, she has wonderful reviews and ties into lots of different curriculums. here are some threads (both pro and con) http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=347161&highlight=SL+SOTW http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=353620&highlight=story+of+the+world+sonlight http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=322401&highlight=story+of+the+world+sonlight http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=298226&highlight=story+of+the+world+sonlight http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=253416&highlight=story+of+the+world+sonlight http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=239918&highlight=story+of+the+world+sonlight'>http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=239918&highlight=story+of+the+world+sonlight'>http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=239918&highlight=story+of+the+world+sonlight'>http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=239918&highlight=story+of+the+world+sonlight http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=239918&highlight=story+of+the+world+sonlight http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=410400&highlight=SL+SOTW http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=391722&highlight=SL+SOTW http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=368029&highlight=SL+SOTW Best of luck. I hope you enjoy it, we use SOTW and are very happy with it.
  7. You could branch into the different species of shark. Put them in groups by type. (Nurse, basking, and whale sharks are vegetarian.) Focus on different traits and then into groups. Look at predators, do they have them? (ie..dolphins, orcas, humans) Food sources, expanding into the ocean. You can tie to literature with the myths about sharks vs. reality. If you are not grossed out, you can get a small shark to dissect from home science tools. My son was focused for a year on the Titanic, now it is greek mythology. I just go with it. Have fun!
  8. I got one under the renamed Bebe au lait. Same company, they just realized that some people didn't like the name. For me it was a game changer and allowed me to nurse longer. My dd would not just latch on, so I would feed her first and then top up with a bottle. With the cover, I could get my whole b00k out underneath, and I could see what I was doing to keep her going. Yes every one knew what I was doing, but this was the way that worked for me to be able to keep trying to bf and not be tied to the house. (We are talking about latch, suck 15 times, before latching for 2-3 min.) ETA: Arghhhh, I got caught in an old thread!
  9. I answered wrong:blushing: I thought it was for all kids, not per child. My answer was for both kids, spread through the year including camps. oops. My expensive kid is my ds he does Tae Kwon Do piano drums trapeze soccer swimming I think that is it at the moment.
  10. I voted 9:30 as that is 11 hours. but... It is summer, so the kids are sleeping about 10 hours a night. Fall and Spring seem to be 11 and during the winter they sleep about 12 hours a night. So I adjust with the seasons, we slowly creep earlier to bed as it gets closer to Christmas, then bedtime gets later as we go towards summer. ds, brushes his teeth, gets ready, and then reads in bed for an hour or so. He needs the wind down time. dd will play and do whatever, then brush teeth, 1 story and she is asleep.
  11. I have not wanted to explain to people yet, so at church I have a couple of wider headbands from this site. http://www.garlandsofgrace.com/ I am covering my head, but, in no way making a big deal about it. I figure if later I cover more of my head while I am out, I can just say "Well, I have been doing it for a year, you have only just noticed?" It is a private thing between me and God, not something I want to call great attention to.
  12. :iagree: The seats are just things, I would think about blowing up the picture of them to 5x7 and framing it if you haven't already. It is a beautiful memory, but you need room to make more! They are beautiful babies.
  13. I am looking and trying to find some charts to put around the school room, let me know if you have found some good ones. Amazon and RR are good as I can put them in one order. Units of measure metric vs. imperial advanced geometric shapes (parallelograms not circle and square) Parts of speech (with more than just the basic noun, verb, etc... Everything I see is colorful with about 5 parts of speech, I want more content, less fluff) I know there were 2 more, but I can't think of them right now. Thank you in advance ETA: Anyone, please feel free to hijack and add any charts/posters you are looking for.
  14. I don't have the work side, but I am finding that time is helping. People didn't give me too much grief the first year. It was like I was "playing" at homeschool. When I made it through the year and decided to do a 2nd year, that is when people started to let their feeling be known. I had to work hard at passing the bean dip and putting up boundaries. Now that we are starting our third year, people seem to accept that I homeschool, and they can see by how my kids are, that they are still regular kids. Patience and learn how to say "no" to people (that they are not allowed to tell you how to live)
  15. :iagree: We dated about a year, we were engaged about a year. I needed awhile to organize everything, my family is pretty big and spread out over the globe, so to get everyone there was a big deal. Then we had to have more than a wedding as so many people were traveling. There was a big family reunion the night before the wedding (that I also had the joy of organizing), finding hotels and transportation and helping with travel arrangements. It was great though, our family still talks about it as the greatest family party ever (that I happened to get married during:D) To me though (and this is just me, everyone looks at their own wedding differently) the most important part was family, I loved having them all there with us.
  16. dh has only gone with me once when buying a car, and that was our one new one, from a dealer, and we new what we wanted exactly. I bring a book (for all those times that they go back to "check" with their managers). I am not a girly girl, but I bring a nail file and start filing my nails when they are talking to me and being stupid. I put it away when they are making sense, and get it back out when they go into bs mode. I look at it as a game. I do have a folders of paper with me. Costs, dealer holdbacks, what they paid etc...
