  1. ETA: MULTIPLE ANSWERS ALLOWED I have a math question. If you have a completely empty 6 shelf bookcase that you agreed to share 50/50 with your dh does that mean 3 shelves for him and 3 shelves for you or 1 shelf for him, 5 for you? We are having a disagreement (in a fun, teasing way) He thinks I am not very good at fractions as I think 1/2 is 5 shelves for me:D Oh, I am going to make this a poll. (and yes, I do really know he is right, but have fun with me!)
  2. This might be the time for everyone to agree to disagree and let this thread die. I don't see it going anywhere productive. Just a thought....
  3. I understand that, and there are a lot of threads I just don't read. However, I have learnt a lot on here. I have a totally different view of Mormon missionaries for one. I had some genuine questions that I would normally have no where to ask, and I got answers, and it was a great conversation. A lot of religion threads are just done to stir the pot, or to further a political agenda, those I stay away from. I love learning about new things, and other ideas. You do have to pick and choose the threads though.
  4. :iagree: A lot of people who have never experienced or witnesses abuse thinks it happens fast. An abuser does not just wake up one day and start smacking someone around. It is a slow process. Everything is good, but this one thing, so you normalize it, as other than this one thing everything is good. Once that is your new normal, one other thing changes, but it is just the one thing. Other than that all is really good and you don't want to rock the boat. Now this is your new normal. Then there is something that you are really not comfortable, but it is probably you over-reacting as you do that sometime, and it is not that bad. This is your new normal. Now there is something that you really don't like, but who would you talk to as you have drifted from your friends, and SO is the center of your life, well, I guess it isn't that bad. This is your new normal. See where I am going? It doesn't matter if you are male or female, financially independent or not, a HS drop our or a Phd. Anyone can be the victim of abuse. :grouphug:Imp and :grouphug:wolf
  5. We don't do netflix, we do hulu plus. Hulu plus is good if you are replacing your DVR and cable. So, I can watch Revenge on our TV the day after it is on, or if life has gotten busy 6 weeks later. We sometimes rent movies through Prime. There is TED and though I havent looked yet I heard you can also get Khan academy.
  6. :grouphug::grouphug: I also get very confused when cars go wrong. I know how to turn them on and off, but if it won't turn on. Then it's broke and that is all I have got! Sorry, I hope your van feels better soon.:grouphug:
  7. We have had a lot of successful conversations about religion on this board. There are times when people can really stay away from attacking and have good honest conversations. There are what I see as 3 main reasons that we don't discuss politics. 1. They pretty much all devolve to where people are forgetting their manners. 2. If politics can be discussed we are opening the board up to people lobbying. The third and main reason is that the host of this board Susan, has asked us not to. She is nice enough to host this forum for us, and I for one and not going to quibble with her saying no politics.
  8. We are pretty relaxed, so I find year round works best. We take a couple weeks here and there where we do nothing, other than that Math and Language flashcards are done 5 days a week. We don't count reading as school as my son is a bookworm and we have more trouble getting his nose out of a book.:D This way, we have more time, I don't have to take time reviewing, we are just slowly and steadily moving forward. A lot of days we only do an hour or two, but mix that with no 3 month summer break and we seem to be where we need to be.
  9. Maybe Spanx will come out with a version for us moms? Bye Bye Whale tales! I still have my docs. One pair of black boots, and I have these cute green suede shoes. I will have to go dig them out of the back of my closet.
  10. Oh my, see, no matter how tempting, I did not post again on the teA room carpet thread. I killed it twice, I am not doing it again!
  11. Yes, I have always felt that I would have more kids. I am just not giving birth anymore. We are looking into our foster to adopt program right now. I am going to start taking classes in the fall. By this time next year, I hope to have a teenager living with us.

  19. Nobody's fool by Richard Russo The Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks and Half- broke horses are the 3 I am going between right now.
  20. The American Government has it's checks and balances, The Queen acts as a check and balance in Britain. For one thing, to deploy the Armed Forces they need the permission of the Queen as they are officially her forces. Obviously, if she says no they can out vote her, but they need a greater majority to do so. The Queen has a weekly meeting with the Prime minister. There has never been a leak. Think about what a wonderful service that is, for the political head to have a closed door conversation where he/she knows it will never leak. With someone who has been involved in Public life and has seen what the Queen has seen. The Queen is not tied to a political party. When she makes decisions they are based solely on what she thinks is best for her people, not what will make her win the next election, or what will make France or some other country happy. Prince Charles has been a huge support in the growth of Organic Farming. He also did a lot of work to stop the horrible 1970's architecture that was popping up everywhere. They travel and support their people. When the village of Boscastle flooded, it really lifted people's spirits to Have Prince Charles there. Princess Anne came to my husbands company to tour it, meet people, and see what they do. By the time you hit 60, more people I met than not had met and shook hands with at least one royal. That is a lot of work for one family.
  21. But you have paw paw ointment. I will send you some Hershey kisses if you send me some paw paw ointment:D
