  1. We have separate checking accounts. He has a couple savings accounts that he had before we married but we do not have any joint accounts together. Having said that we both contribute financially to the running of the household. He significantly more than me at the moment. He knows my ATM pins and I know his in case something were to happen but we don't see any need for the accounts to be in both names. He pays all the big expenses from his accounts and I pay for things like curriculum, meals out, vacations, groceries and so forth from mine.
  2. Yes, I have a BSN, MSN and soon a DNP. My DH has a JD and MBA.
  3. I'm sitting here watching my son play one of the Call of Duty games with his online gamer buddies. He is 12. I enjoy watching these kids form teams and strategize in the games. Playing the XBOX is a great "carrot" for getting the behavior we want. He plays in our family room, so one of us is always here watching when he is playing.
  4. Yes, we always do. Even if it is quick work being done inside the house, like the cable people or when we have furniture delivered. I have even given them fresh baked cookies. I think it is just being nice and polite. You are not nuts.
  5. We met in a chat room on AOL about 11 year ago. He as in CA and I was in New England.
  6. We have Comcast cable for our internet and we get 14.29 mbps on download and 4.02 mbps on upload.
  7. We have been through in the last 8 years: His dad dying Moving 5 times so far (another move coming in 2 months) DS being diagnosed with Aspergers DH and my unemployment x 2 Lived on opposite coasts from one another for months at a time DH's Infidelity x 5+, including long term affairs, one that stretched the whole length of our relationship My completing/working on my all consuming BSN, MSN and now DNP. I'm hopeful the next few years will be peaceful... maybe...;)
  8. I'm so glad I homeschool now. I do not miss the IEP meetings and/or trying to get the plan enforced. I do not miss the not so subtle vibe that my son's issues were my fault.
  9. I'm glad he got a reprieve. I really understand. My DH's employer has been going through "centralizing" for a few months and his job literally is day by day at this point. He has sent out so many resumes and has not received one call back. He is 52. He knows that plays a large role in why he isn't receiving any call backs. He has a JD and a MBA too, but that doesn't mean anything if you are over 50. So we are trying to hold on until I finish my doctorate and I can become the primary bread winner (my field is still doing very well, thankfully). I hope your husband finds something and gets out before his new VP turns the whole place toxic. It is so stressful to -never- know if you will have a job tomorrow. The stress on us has just been overwhelming. I have lost 5 pounds this week alone and neither of us sleeps. So I totally understand what you guys are facing. Hang in there, and I'll be praying for you.
  10. Hi Kathy, We are on AT&T and we have an i-phone, an Atrix, a HTC Inspire, and a new windows phone (it is my 12 year olds phone and I don't know the model, sorry!) but we really like the Android platform. It took me some time to get used to because I love my i-phone but the HTC Inspire is a better fit for me (for work), it has a larger screen. There are so many choices but my DH LOVES his Atrix, he has some computer docking station for it so he can use it just like a laptop too. I admit I kind of wish I had chosen the Atrix too. Happy choosing!
  11. Because she died when my DH was 16 from cancer after having fought a long battle for 7 years and I never got a chance to meet her or thank her. :(
  12. Congratulations!! We did the private Beach wedding too. Enjoy the floating on air feelings!
  13. We homeschool first for academic reasons. The second reason is because we love our freedom, we do not like people telling us what to do. We do not like to operate on another person's schedule. We like to travel and we loathed being chained to the local school's calendar. *I* really don't like people telling me what to do. Even in my career as a nurse and then as a NP, I would only work per diem so I could control when I worked. So I would say freedom and academics are our reasons.
  14. I want to second a visit to this site. It saved my sanity and helped me get through what was a very traumatic time. I'm so sorry. You really need an attorney. You may have no idea what kind of plans he was making before or what has he done with the assets from your marriage? Is he paying you child support and spousal support? You need to shake up his world a little, he seems a bit foggy.
  15. You can do WW online too. That is what I do. I have done South Beach in the past. I have found that for myself portion control and focusing on whole grains, lean protein, fruits, veggies, low-fat dairy and healthy oils works far better than worrying about carbs and what I "can't eat". I'm steadily losing 2 pounds a week on WW, I never feel deprived or hungry. I am eating far better than I ever did on low carb. For me WW is doable for life. Low carb was an on again, off again thing and so was my weight. It isn't as fast as a low carb diet, but for me keeping it off is more important than getting it all off in a few months. Best of luck with whichever one you decide on!
  16. We moved from Newport Beach, CA to the hell that is the south suburbs of Chicago. Our sentence here is almost up and we will be going to the Phoenix, AZ area for a few years. It was a good thing we did it but after almost 2 years, we can't take it anymore. We planned to do 3-4 years here, and even though we live essentially for free (our home here is paid for), we hate it so much that we are all miserable 24/7.
  17. Be careful everyone! My family lives in Central MA and the tornados touched down just south of them but they are OK. It is weird but I spoke to my dad this morning and he said he had a feeling they would get tornados today. It was that kind of day. Hopefully the bad weather will over for you guys soon!!
  18. My son is 12 and he has one. He has 2 videos up there of the dogs. I think it is like most things, you just need to keep an eye on it and provide appropriate guidance when required. We really encourage him to use all of this technology. We laugh sometimes, he will have 2 computers screens going with you-tube on one and the news on another, his x-box on, his i-touch in his right ear, his xbox live headset on and mic and he is using apps on his phone. We watch it all and he knows random "tech tests" can occur at anytime. We make him leave the room and we do a sweep of all the electronics looking for anything he shouldn't be doing with it. He mostly watches video on xbox live game play, mineraft or starcraft.
  19. We have been happy with everything from Seton. We love Saxon math and we loved Teaching Textbooks too.
  20. Praying here too. Watching it on the Weather Channel. Stay safe!
  21. I was notified via email and a letter arrived a few days later. Good luck!!
  22. The problem I see is that it discounts the role the parent's legacy, careers, and networking played into her admission. The mother's book, her TV appearances, her being a Yale professor and a Harvard grad probably had far more to do with her daughter's admission than her GPA. If she had not had all those "extras" going for her, she'd likely be one of the thousands(with similar or better GPA and/or talents) who have been rejected from an Ivy this year. I think the mother "worked" the Ivy system to her full advantage. I'm sure she knew exactly what she was doing writing and promoting the book when she did.
  23. We have always bought them at Williams-Sonoma. I love, love, love All-Clad.
