  1. We will be starting back on August 16th. We ease back in because our summer break was only 3 weeks. We will be at full steam by the first week in September. I'm very excited, I love the fall!
  2. How ironic that you posted this! We were just notified by my DH's company that all employees and family members who participate in the insurance plan have to get physicals and that we will have a year to bring ourselves in line with the insurance companies BMI charts by participating in the insurance company's "disease management program" or we will be surcharged $680/year. My DH is more concerned that his company will begin to "target" employees who do not meet the new BMI standard they have put out for layoffs, of course they would never give that for the reason but it is something they would do to try to cut costs. I guess the company will get a a big reduction in rates if they lower the number of employees who are obese/overweight that participate in the plan. I'm in the same boat as you, I just started a very low carb plan to get myself under the new BMI before I have to get the physical. Good luck, I'd love the Ben & Jerry's too!
  3. Newport Beach, CA. We just moved from there to Chicago last December and it had almost perfect weather, 70's-80's all summer during the day and in winter it is 60's during the day 50's at night. Once in a blue moon we had a night that dipped to 48. We had several days in January that it was high 70's. No humidity, very few bugs, clean, clean, clean. It is not cheap to live but you don't have high heating or cooling bills either. It would be my vote for cooler summers/mild winters.
  4. We school year round with very few breaks and we just started our "summer break" this week until Aug 16th and I wish I could stretch it out until..say maybe New Years !! LOL! I'm so tired, my husband is pressuring me to go back to work at least part-time and homeschool and take care of everything else...I feel like saying "calgon take me away!!" You are not alone.
  5. When I went to nursing school we did our clinicals from 1 PM to 9 PM and then 1PM to 10PM for that final med/surg rotation right before we graduated. I liked the afternoon clinicals better. Having worked both shifts now as a nurse I think either morning or evening is fine for clinicals. Go with the one that works best for you and family and best of luck in this school this semester! As far as shoes you probably can't wear clogs/crocs but those are the most comfortable when you get out. I could work 16 hours shifts and my feet hardly hurt at all but since schools can be soooo picky just get a comfortable pair of white sneakers.
  6. It is plagiarizing if you don't properly cite the paper as being from your own previous work and it must be significantly different from the original. He probably did not appropriately cite the material as being from a previous paper in the references section and within the body of the new paper. My husband is full-time professor and he goes through this every term with students who think they do not need to cite their own works if they use them in their papers for his classes. My husband runs every paper through turnitin.com as do most professors, that is probably how the student got caught.
  7. I would stay away from the drama. I understand the need to be alone after groups interaction and I don't deal well with gossipy hens. It is draining, you are better off alone if the only option is this group of folks. I'm sorry, it is like junior high.
  8. This is exactly how I feel, it gives me things to consider and look more closely at. We may add a few here or there. I try not to feel pressured to make him do too much. I don't want him to hate learning, it is finding the right balance for your individual children that matters.
  9. We have been pretty insulated from the recession thankfully. My H is an attorney and law professor. We have no debt other than a HELOC on our home and bank 60% of his income every month to pay my tuition(I'm working on my doctorate in Nursing) and to save for investments. We are very frugal and realize that the downturn could hit us at any time. We are just thankful it hasn't.
