  1. I love Ree, too! I think more people should use their creativity and passions like she does. She's inspiring! And it's no one's business how much she makes or what she does with it! I am a firm believer in capitalism :)
  2. I agree! A picture is worth a thousand words!!! I prefer personal handwritten notes in cards. Merry Christmas!
  3. So sorry to hear! I will pray for your sister and her doctors as they devise a treatment plan.
  4. My boys LOVED it...and one of those was a middle schooler. He is quite good at impersonating Mr. Weiss! We listened to all of them and learned a LOT!!!
  5. 8th Street Elementary in Ocala, FL 1 - Mrs. Griffen 2 - Mrs. Humphries 3 - Mrs. McLean 4 - Mrs. Duncan/Mrs. Guyton 5 - Mrs. Griffen/Mrs. Young Principal. Mr. George PE teacher - Coach Cromey, Coach Saunders
  6. I used an Office Depot VISA rebate on Amazon without a problem. I just entered the information they requested. Not sure about a gift card, but it should work just like a VISA. Call Amazon if you still have problems. Good luck!
  7. My husband and I LOVE the Daily Audio Bible. He (Brian) reads a section from the Old Testament, a section from the New Testament, part of a Psalm, and some of Proverbs every day. It's great!!!
  8. Why don't you just work on doing some practice on word problems? My ds doesn't like doing the word problems either...and didn't do well on the test with them. We went back and reworked some of the word problems until I felt he knew it. I will make sure that he "gets" the word problems in the next chapter as we go along. (A funny thing about word problems and my ds...if they have $ in them...he gets them all right...but if you put any other type of problem, such as yds, feet, hours, etc....he can't "see" the problems as well. So, if he is having a problem, then I try to convert it to something with money!!! A future business man in the making!) Good luck!
  9. In Pinellas County, FL...yes. I have one ds taking Drama 3/4 and doing cross country and track. I have another ds taking Drama I and TV Production I...he is also doing cross country and lacrosse and will also take Driver's Ed in the spring. It's the best of both worlds here. (My oldest is also dually enrolled at the community college and taking 12 hours there.)
  10. Thanks everyone! I needed it for teaching a Bible study class...no Greek scholars in there, so hopefully I didn't butcher the words too much! I appreciate all your help and I like the online dictionary!
  11. Hi, Any Greek scholars who could tell me how to pronounce these words? pneuma pnoe pneo Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!!!
  12. My husband and I LOVE the Daily Audio Bible. He reads the Bible in a year (portion of OT, NT, Psalms, Proverbs daily) and then gives a brief application and prayer at the end. It's been GREAT! My husband started July of last year, I started in January of this year.
  13. uh....NO! :) We enjoy having the summers off. I've really enjoyed reading "fun" books on my Kindle 2. My oldest will be taking all of his classes at the CC college...so I'll have a lighter load with only 2. I'll get in the groove/mood once we start, though!
  14. My husband went to Presbyterian College and loved it. He wanted a small school and really enjoyed the atmosphere. I went with him to a reunion and we've visited it once with our boys. It's a pretty campus...very small town. Have fun touring!
  15. He used the REA CLEP study guides. He preferred the ones that had the practice tests on CDs. After he finished school in May, he would review one of the guide books for a week, then take a test. Review guide book, take test, etc. The guide books were very helpful and the real tests were very similar to the tests in the books. He complained that the American History II test had a bigger emphasis on a couple of areas...feminist movement and civil rights movement...that weren't covered in the book. He was disappointed also that the American History II test only had 1-2 questions on WWII (of course, that's his favorite time period!) Good luck!
  16. I don't have a typical response...but every home has a different homeschooling journey...as well as every child! My oldest son started homeschooling when he was in the 9th grade and he is a big history buff. I catered his classes to his interests, not based on a rotation. He loves WWII, so we did Sonlight's 20th Century Core 300 in 9th grade. Last year he did Sonlight's Core 400 Civics/Gov't and Notgrass' American Literature. (We didn't do all of the assignments in SL...no Bible or creative writing) This summer he passed the CLEP tests for American History I, American History II, and American Government. The community college where he is dually enrolled gave him 9 credit hours for the tests. He is now on the Winston Churchill/WWII Hillsdale College Study Abroad program (comes home Friday!!!). My other two sons have different interests. My middle next year (9th grade) will be doing Western Civilization with Spielvogel and the TTC's DVDs and then I will have him take the CLEP tests for Western Civilization I and Western Civilization II. He will probably do Notgrass' American History/TTC DVDs in 10th grade and a modified Civics course based on SL's schedule. I will probably have him take the CLEP tests for American Government, as well as American History I and II. He would like to go on the Hillsdale Western Civilization study abroad program in a couple of years. DS (11) will probably do something like DS (14)....but who knows????!!!! I love being able to cater homeschooling to their passions! Good luck!
  17. I remember seeing a newspaper article where a guy was going to be graduating from the University of Florida without ever having stepped on campus. He was from a small town...somewhere on the southwest coast of Florida. I think he was going to walk at the graduation ceremony...which would be his first time on campus! More and more colleges are offering online classes. I know our local community college keeps adding more and more online classes or blended (half in class, half online) classes. Check out whatever schools you may be interested in attending! Good luck
  18. Another vote for Community Bible Study. The kids ministry program is great, too!
  19. Central Florida Community College-AA, University of Central Florida-Accounting; University of Tampa - MBA
  20. ...anybody else going? He's been planning on this trip for over two years (thanks to Margaret in CO's suggestion!) If anyone has participated in past Hillsdale trips, any helpful comments would be appreciated! He (or WE) are all very excited for him. He is 16 and is a HUGE WW II history buff...has been since he was about in 3rd grade. This trip looks like it was tailored for him! Thanks for letting me share our excitement! :001_smile:
  21. We went at the end of October and loved it! We did the walking tour (and climbing tour of Bunker Hill!). They sell a $6 (?) brochure that lists everything along the trail...which worked out great for us. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND going and getting a snack at Mike's Pastry...it is one street over from Paul Revere's house (ask anyone or google it for the full address!) YUMMMMMYYYY!!!!!!!!!!! We were there on a Sunday and went to church at the Old North Church (actually, it's Christ Church). We enjoyed that...and stopped at Mike's Pastry on the way there and on the way back. (I have three teenage boys!!!) The boys loved everything we did...and we did a lot! We had read The Iron Peacock as part of SL Core 7 and went to the restored ironworks place that the books is based upon. We had the place to ourselves and the boys loved messing around. The subways are easy to navigate and I wouldn't recommend driving in the city. We had borrowed my parents' GPS and loved having it guide us around the city and to other places we went outside of Boston. You will have a wonderful time! My boys were only "so-so excited" about going, but came back loving it! Our trip inspired my sister and her family to go during spring break and they loved it, too. Have FUN! :)
  22. Your website looks great! I spent most of the day trying to put some stuff up on mine...with no luck!!! My computer crashed and I had to re-install everything...somehow something isn't working right. UGHHH!!!!! I told myself I'm NOT going to try to work on it any more today. :) Tomorrow is another day......
  23. My ds (16) did it this year on his own. By the time he was halfway through the course, I saw a recommendation for Teaching Company's High School Chemistry DVDs. I purchased them when they were on sale and he used them the second half. My ds (14) will use all of them next year when he does Apologia Chemistry. I have been pleased with it. He did most of the experiments at home.
