  1. So sorry to see the latest. Hugs.
  2. You're in prime PCS season. I don't know where you're at, but at our last duty station a move wouldn't have been able to be scheduled that quickly. The problem with packing things yourself is that if any of the boxes you packed are damaged it can be too bad for you because the movers can say it's because of the way you packed them. Maybe this isn't the case for you, but the stuff we left behind in storage counts against our weight allowance. You might double check on that. Rules for food can depend on the country. I would get the stuff going into storage out of the way first. Actually I wouldn't put anything in storage. Both times we did that, we ended up not returning to the US for six years and not wanting any of it back by that time.
  3. They don't really bother me, but my husband would die a million deaths before wearing such a thing. I sometimes feel sorry for men. It seems like they get such boring clothing choices if they don't want to raise eyebrows.
  4. I would move somewhere and expect to reconnect with more people, not be solitary. But I have a lot of practice with that and actually enjoy moving. I see a new location as adding more people to my community, which is around the world now.
  5. I see no problem with returning it and getting something you would enjoy. I would never attach "ungrateful and undeserving" to that action. The person or persons who have helped you feel that way about gifts aren't being kind.
  6. I fell in love with the JW lady who would come to our door in Japan. I'm so glad she did. I ended up doing a Bible study with her for a year and learned a lot about her beliefs. She also demonstrated to me how to care for others. I was sick a lot that year and she brought soup around several times despite my protests and frequently brought treats for my girls. My more cynical self speculated that she was getting "points" for doing that, but I never actually really felt as if she felt we were some sort of obligation. In the end, though, I know I was making her sad. I enjoyed learning about her faith, but was never going to be able to share it.
  7. Happiness here, too! We had to celebrate with lunch out. Kiddo thinks she did pretty well. Yay!
  8. Also, your use of the words "crash course" reminded me of John Green. He has a couple of poetry segments, Emily amongst them, in his literature series on YouTube.
  9. I'm sorry. It's really hard. We are still in mourning from when my daughter had to leave off swimming last year. You're in my thoughts. I really hope he can keep swimming.
  10. We just got back from a quick run through to make sure we knew where we going so my daughter wouldn't be stressed about that on Friday. I'm so glad we did. We ended up wandering a bit and walking way more than we needed to trying to find the main entrance. Then we got inside and the office lady was so nice and so reassuring and understanding. It really helped alleviate some nervousness.
  11. Ha, ha, ha, Mr. Moneybags, you lose! I had an uncle who I know wondered why on earth I was still asking for Barbies at 18, but he never said a word. I wonder about it myself now.
  12. We did all of Miquon. But we did it along with Singapore Primary Mathematics, so we just carried on with it when Miquon ended.
  13. I understood your post as trying to be encouraging and was surprised you got attacked. And yes, the French Foreign Legion still exists.
  14. I had no idea and wondered if it was a beer thing.
  15. Barrettes, ponytails and headbands give me a headache. My mother gave up trying to brush my hair. Yes, it was always a disaster in elementary school. Do kids really notice that? That wasn't my life experience. It's not a battle I would fight. I would wait to help her out when she cares. We didn't reach that point until 14 with my oldest.
  16. Support from here. Zero judgment. It's taken in very small amounts. She's not going to be getting high. Your doctor is recommending it. I''m not surprised the Celebrex didn't help. That was my experience with it, too, and my issue didn't even come close to your daughters. You're in my thoughts.
  17. Washington and Hawaii have the Running Start program. Ohio has College Credit Plus. Oklahoma has concurrent enrollment tuition waivers.
  18. https://www.mylifetree.com/soulfeed/dear-parent-of-a-not-so-stellar-student-you-are-not-alone/ This really resonated with me today and I thought it might with others, too. My kids are younger, but I definitely have one who is going to take paths I don't understand, and I sometimes find it hard to breathe thinking about it.
  19. I'm dreading this so much. I really feel for everyone facing it. My mother has never met a sale she can pass up. Four bedrooms of crap. My father has a machine shop you can't walk through that contains three or four huge, obsolete lathes. There are also several junk cars on the property. And there will be hobby farm animals to deal with. Naturally they live in the middle of nowhere, which will make it even harder to get all that mess gone.
  20. We're another who uses it as a review. Generally about three months after we did the workbook.
  21. There are quibblers. Squishable is good, but you really don't want a bag you have to wrestle into the overhead.
  22. I always tell my people I want world peace. Really, I don't want any fuss and bother. That's partly because I'm the person who sometimes forgets these kinds of observances, so I don't want a major to-do for me. I like plants. If pressed, I'll remind them of that.
