  1. We're doing Core C (2), in our 3rd year with SL. We've done A (K) and B (1), and enjoyed it.
  2. vinegar diluted in water, in a spray bottle, has always worked for us :grouphug:
  3. At 7 and 9, we have a general routine, which usually starts between 8-9. Later if we are out at an event, earlier if both parents are home and motivated to get kids into bed. They get a heads-up warning for a last snack, then to brush teeth and put on pjs. We read from Leading Little Ones to God and whatever Bible storybook we're currently working through (Action Bible right now), and then DH and I trade off reading one-on-one with the kids each night, snuggle and chat. DD is immediately tucked into bed after this (her choice). DS is our night owl, and we've found that he falls asleep the easiest whenever he's allowed to read a bit before bed. When he's reading Mo Willems it can be an entertaining evening ;) but he's generally out within 20-30 minutes! It's our goal to start at 8 and end at 9, but obviously if we start later, we end later.
  4. That - it's all our money; I even contribute from time to time when I have a small writing contract, but realistically, HE earns and manages it. He doesn't contest anything I spend (on school or anything else) and we're both respectful of each other in regards to big purchases, so it doesn't bother me at all to say "he pays" with "our money."
  5. Mine pays, listens to me ramble about curriculum, and is generally very supportive. He's able to be home occasionally if I have an appointment. And he usually goes on field trips with us. This morning, I went to the dentist, so he got up with the kids and got them started on their seatwork, which is fairly easy since we use workboxes. He reads daily Bible story and hopes we save the missionary stories (Sonlight curriculum) for times when he can listen in :) He would love to have more time to delve into history with them, but just doesn't have the time to do it regularly.
  6. I'm SO sorry :( praying for the family

  8. well, we don't have bedtime drama ... we coslept until they were ready to move on to their own rooms. At times, that meant sleeping with two little ones in the bed, but since both were nursing, it was all good. It especially helped in the transition of our international move. DD chose her own room/bed at age 4. DS was closer to 6, but he's such a heavy sleeper we could move him once asleep with no problem. Now at ages 7 and 9, we have a great bedtime routine. If anyone gets scared, they can come to our bed for comfort. DD prefers to sleep alone, DS likes to snuggle either before bed or just upon waking. She's early to bed while he's a night owl. She falls asleep immediately; he likes to read a book or two before bed. It works well; he gets a lot of reading in during the evenings, when during the day he's often too busy to read. We parented both the same but they're different kids with different needs, which is ok. No drama.
  9. A big, mixing bowl sized salad, with all sorts of yummy veggies tossed with Caesar dressing and apple cider vinegar. Heavy on the garlic and onion!
  10. this - only we start back mid-July. I always mean to keep up with math/spelling and to finish up science experiments, but we don't ... so far this summer, we've finished several read-alouds, though :D
  11. :iagree: and I'm not an affiliate of anything - we just love AAS here. My kids ASK to do it, and my DD continually reminds me that she doesn't want to go back to her old spelling program "because it doesn't teach the rules!" :D
  12. We just got Discovery School's Jeff Corwin Experience Elephants DVD from the library but haven't watched it yet.
  13. every day now that the house is listed for sale ... never before unless company was coming!
  14. I'm finished, just waiting for the last two pieces to arrive via mail ...
  15. see if your library has Mo Willems' Elephant and Piggie series of early readers - my kids LOVED them (ok, still love them!)
  16. I think it can be for some kids, but not for all. Not all kids can intuitively pick up on good spelling/grammar/sentence and paragraph structure from exposure to good literature and a gentle nudge here and there. My kids, one especially, do much better with structured grammar and spelling programs which emphasize rules, and with a great deal more narration/dictation than SL LA provided. Some kids do thrive with their program, obviously.
  17. The Academy of Sino-American Studies (we lived in Asia before moving here, are moving back, and are teaching the kids Mandarin in preparation) :p
  18. I had one break off like that, over and over again; the ortho never could get one to stick so that tooth is still a little crooked  never from just my tongue, though
  19. after two weeks of dragging like that, I went to the doctor yesterday to find out I have a sinus infection and upper respiratory infection :grouphug:
