  1. I agree with you, Rose. I've been trying to sneak the method into my MM-studying dd's brain.
  2. Crash Course or Horrible Histories are on YouTube. We like those on occasion.
  3. This is what I was going to suggest, but I was afraid to offend, so I'll just like your post!
  4. I get the supportive head-nod. And he makes eye contact when I am delivering a monologue about homeschooling stuff. It's all good.
  5. We spend 45-60 minutes on math a day. Ds just starts, and when we get close to the end time I will point out where I think he should stop. In our house my older two do Math at the same time (different programs) and I sit with everybody at the table, mainly working with my younger dd, but answering other questions as they come up. Younger dd usually gets all her schoolwork done in a little over an hour due to her age, but there is an exciting part of the morning where I am answering questions from three different math programs. Keeps me alert!
  6. We submitted applications for my three dc who have all had them before and I got two if the passports in the mail together 10 days ago, no sign yet of number three... I am suppressing the huge sigh and slightly-sick feeling until we pass the 6-week mark mid-November. Argh, the bureaucracy.
  7. Timely thread for me, I'm working on my first ever cross-stitch, from a book called Subversive Cross-stitch. I'm planning to give it to a fellow homeschooler. Somehow I will frame it nicely, one side says "Too bad, so sad" in a nice border, the other side will also have a nice border and say "#@%&!!" So she can flip it depending on her mood. I tend to be a serial craft-starter, so I'm not counting this thing until I am actually done with it.
  8. We struggle to remember the cases when it has been a while since we've seen them. I agree that there is a dearth of songs on this on the internet. I found one, but it doesn't match the cases we've learned which makes it not helpful. Are you looking for the declensions, though? A quick search of Youtube brings up a few but most are too busy, too fast, or too wordy for us. I like this one best, short and to the point. You may end up better off with your own, though. Look forward to seeing what you come up with!
  9. I am compelled to point out you didn't mention BFSU. That could work as a spine to connect all the things you have that you like. Output can be whatever you think works best for your family. No worksheets unless you make your own. Requires a lot of work from the facilitator.
  10. The Charles and Mary Lamb Tales from Shakespeare is a nice advertisement I use with my dc. I also have Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare which does a great job explaining backgrounds and references. The Royal Shakespeare Company has some supplements geared toward kids available online, too. We'll be dabbling in all of those (and that Branagh movie) this week prior to seeing the local high school production of Much Ado About Nothing.
  11. We have used years 2 through mid-5. I find the multiple of five days to be a bit easier than the rest of the week. You also miss the easing in to upcoming topics which happens in the lesson plans in advance of the worksheets. I compress MEP for my son who is also working through BA. I skim all the lessons and redact the worksheets as needed, so I'm with you on that. My firstish grade is doing Miquon along with occasional MM pages.
  12. I have frozen them chopped before. If they are on the sweet side you could roast them and then freeze them.
  13. I do think that if you call and complain they will make you a better offer. But it still may not be a "good" offer. At least you will have let them know how you feel, though!
  14. *Cooked* chicken, though, right? I would eat it. If you are worried, just use that as an excuse to eat it all yourself. For their own good. Ultimately, random person on the internet is unlikely to change your comfort level, so go with your gut!
  15. I don't have a severe problem, so this may not help enough, but I try to look up and outside the car at the end of every page or so.
  16. Cleaning the bathroom. I can't walk away from these burgers in the pan, though, anything could happen! So, while I'm standing here...
  17. Yes, this is how some hive members have discovered household or office mates have made questionable searches on computers. Google is watching!
  18. I watched the 1996 version directed by Trevor Nunn, with Helena Bonham Carter as Olivia. With my young kids, no problems. We had a second version from the library, but never got around to it. There are a lot of versions reviewed on imdb.com I've found that website helpful for previews, they have spoilers and a "parent's guide" section (under the Storyline heading) which is way more reliable than my sketchy memory.
  19. What about increasing exposure to foreign languages? It strikes me as something that might add to her day, widen her knowledge base, and can be adjusted for where she is at (perhaps?) A tutor, or Saturday school? Another thought along those lines might be to add some content in Spanish, I've found math, science and history in Spanish, although I think it would be harder to match the content to her level. I don't have any direct accelerated experience, sorry if I'm off base with my suggestions.
  20. Wow! Let me get you some punch and cookies from the table! Where are the rest of you ask with your fancy party tricks?
  21. My library has a nice series of books called "The Constellation (Ursa Minor - for instance)" Each book is a different author. They are shelved in 292.13, so I think that puts them in the folk-tale section.
  22. How long did it get? I was curious about the limit.
  23. That was one of the things that struck me in Jack London's To Build a Fire. Haha, how cool, and cold, would that be?!
  24. We are using K12, and for my own convenience typing it to the SOTW order that my younger is using. For a more advanced reader you might look at some of the Oxford University Press World in Ancient Times books. My library has some, so check there first! I bought a few used, but the time commitment needed want going to work for us.
