  1. Ok, all you San Antonians, I need help with hotels recommendations. My son is graduating from BMT at the end of September and I called the Lackland reservation line and was informed that there are no standard "hotel" rooms on base that have 2 queen beds. When I google hotels there are so many choices that I feel overwhelmed and have no idea where to start. Do any of you out there have a favorite that you recommend? Thank you for your help.
  2. Saute the chops, caramelize the onions in the same pan with a little butter, add equal amounts of butter and flour to the pan and then add chicken stock. 1 tbsp. butter, 1 tbsp. flour, 1 cup liquid. You can deglaze the pan after the onions with stock, wine, or any other liquid.
  3. If you really have a frig from the 80s the saving on your power bill may be enough to help push you into the pink. :001_smile:
  4. Gloves? Wow you guys get all fancy when you wash dishes. At my house the kids just go in up to thier elbows and hope for the best. :tongue_smilie: Congrats on the dishwasher. I will never live without one. Ever.
  5. :iagree: Call the office and let talk to the nurse. She needs some fluids and is probably dehydrated.
  6. 50 about to turn 51 the next month. I will be 41 when my first turns 20 next year.
  7. Technically what this nurse did was assault and she should lose her license. In every practice that I have ever worked in the nurse (myself) had to witness the signature of the parent and they had to be present for ANY medical procedure. If I were this child's parents the first thing I would do would be to call the state board of nursing and report this woman, right after I retained a lawyer and filed criminal charges against the nurse and the school. What were these people even thinking?!
  8. And rubber band, paperclips, and legos (and my kid doesn't even play with legos ). I though it was just at our house!
  9. Don't serve it with Miralax. That will interfere with absorption. You might try to increase dark green leafies instead of a supplement. :001_smile:
  10. You can't. Sorry to burst your bubble, but free-ranging is like an open buffet call to all those predators. What you can do is move the run into the pasture you would like them to range on and then move it within that pasture every few days. I have kept chickens in the country for the last 10 years. I started this year with 25 hens and 3 roosters and every time my kids let them out during the day I lost some. And this is in the yard where we live. Within 50 feet of our back door. I now have 3 hens left. 3. The rest were eaten by coyotes and foxes. During the day in our yard. I have even had dogs come in the yard at night and break into a chainlink pen to kill all my chickens a few years ago. Not eat them, just kill them. I have stopped naming the chickens and just call them "the girls" now. :001_smile:
  11. Most of the native Mexicans I have met pronounce it yo, but our Spanish exchange student pronounced it jo. She also asked for Joo-Hoos when I went to the store : ) I learned yo in high school and college.
  12. 1. Are your earlobes attached or free? 2. Is there hair on your fingers between the hand and the first knuckle? 3. Do you have a widow's peak or a straight hairline? 4. Is your hair wavy or straight? 5. Do you have a cleft in your chin? Free No Widow's Peak Curly A small one.
  13. Hmm, I have never stained my granite countertops. I wonder about not sealing it correctly too. There is a special granite cleaner you can buy. It is usually in the section by the furniture polish/spray cleaner section. I would imagine it would be the best place to start. Good Luck!
  14. Homemade LaraBars. Dates, nuts, chocolate, and peanut butter pureed in the food processor and pressed into a parchment lined sheet pan and refrigerator and then cut into bars.
  15. I use peach nectar in my fruit salad and the apples stay fresh for days. The tast of the peach is there, but not sour or bitter like lemon juice. My kids didn't like the orange juice solution and the apples often turned brown and muscy.
  16. We had Geico for a while. My husband hit a deer and they wanted to put after-market body parts on his brand-new Honda. We had a lot of trouble with them over it and afterwards switched back to AllState. We have home, life, and car through them and have NEVER had any problems with claims. We were affected by the tornado in AL in April and my agent was calling me throughout to make sure we didn't need anything else and the claims adjuster was great to work with. Afterwards my insurane didn't go up either.
  17. Gluten Free Girl and the Chef by Shauna Ahern She also has a website www.glutenfreegirl.com They have a new one coming out soon.
  18. We have 42 families this year and this is our website. http://www.academydays.com/
  19. I did this at Christmas. You can send it to Apple for a replacement screen. Mine was $300. That was before the Ipad2 came out, so it may be cheaper now. The screen is, of course, the most expensive part of the whole thing. For not much more you can get a new Ipad2.
  20. After my 13th miscarriage and 3rd ectopic. I lost both of my fallopian tubes to the 3 ectopics and after the last one I was at ease. I no longer have that monthly, "maybe I'm pregnant and if I am, will I lose it again" feeling. My husband wants another child, but I just can't go through the heartbreak of losing another.
  21. In the beginning I bought a paperback carb counting book and eventually I began to learn what 15 carbs would be. I also learned which things would send my glucose levels through the roof, even if I only ate 15 carbs of the, white rice, pasta, white bread, and noe pretty much avoid them. You might check with someone where the class is beinf held for a reccomendation for another nutritionist. Anyone who tells you have to give up everything with sugar in it is way behind current research and is serting you up to fail. It's all about moderation and what works for you. I don't know of any websites. You might try the American Diabetes Association. I am sure there is some helpful information there.
  22. I take my meds at night with a snack. This helps keep my stomach from being upset. Most people who have stomach upset usually get past it within 2 weeks. If it is still present your doctor should change to something you can tolerate. Period. If your not taking it, it can't help. My usual diet is 30-45 grams of carbs per meal max and 15 grams of carbs per snack. 3 meals and 3 small snacks are reccomended. You should also have a serving of protein in each. You should be taking your glucose levels every morning before you eat or drink anything (fasting) and at least once 1 to 2 hours after a meal and anytime you feel like something is wrong. Talk to your doctor about where your levels should be for you. For me mt fasting should be between 60 to 90 and my post-meal should not be higher than 140. This gives me a good idea of how I am controlling my levels. Any kind of infection will make your levels go up and make it harder to fight infections. You should ask for an appointment with a Certified Diabetes Educator and Nutritionist. Most insurances pay for these services as they are very important in helping you learn to live with your diabetes and make the changes necessary without feeling overwhelmed. While you will find a lot of misleading information out there about herbal supplements and miracle cures, the reality is that there is no cure for diabetes and working with your endocronologist closely is very important. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to major problems including death and is not something to be taken lightly. If you do decide to try a supplement make sure you discuss it with your doctor because a lot of them can affect the way your medications work. I have lived with diabets now for close to 6 years. I am young, in great shape, and not overweight. It just goes to show that you can do everything just right and still have diabetes. Knowing that you want to change is the first step and I applaude that.
  23. Wow, in my state the ER is a required reporter of dog bites. State law says they have to report it and then the owner has to prove proof of vaccinations and put the dog into quarantine in thier home or the state will take the dog into quarantine at state facilities. She's not much of a friend if she is aking her to lie. Lie by omission is still a lie.
  24. The use of hydrogen peroxide has almost completely stopped as it has been found that it damages the tissues and does more harm than good. I'm glad that your daughters infection got better, but I wouldn't reccomed this as a treatment. Just my $.02
  25. My hubby accidentally stepped on my toe last year and the toenail popped up. I went to the doctor and they removed it completely (it was also just hanging by a thread). To me the numbing shots were worse than anything else. He needs some oral antibiotics and some topical antibotics. It does look infected. Toes are dirty things, being on the ground and sweating all day they are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. My toenail did grow back. The whole thing grows up from the nailbed and becomes thicker before it grows out from the end. I didn't know that before losing my toe and I'm a nurse.
