  1. We ate some cheesy grits (organic at that :)) in a casserole type dish. Actually, it was really pretty good :)
  2. I have no idea what kind of heat you have and if you could put in a small woodstove. Our house is old and has basically no insulation... and our stove gets really hot.... Just a thought. Any chance you can put some sort of insulation under the floor? Seal up some windows? :( Sorry... I stayed in a mobile type thing for a bit and it wasn't warm :(
  3. Well, we like you here, even though we don't get to see you much... But we'd love you to be able to move back home to family :)
  4. Doesn't sound like they can keep him home; I'd just think it couldn't possibly be MY sweet dog that they're thinking about... :)
  5. Is this is like "diaper" which my mom pronounces "di-a-per" because the vowels are not actually suppose to be prounounced as a unitary Diphthong
  6. Hey There :) Wondering if any HS are in Maui or know of co-ops and such in the area :) Thanks!! :)
  7. We had an apartment washer when I was young. Wasn't too bad then and I'm prettty sure they're nicer now ;)
  8. Hey Audrey :) I think it was incredibly caring to ask for others to pray for your friend. Boo to all the people that couldn't just pray or move on to the next post :(
  9. I understand, but don't agree. :( When your dog is an escape artist, you are extra vigilant to train the dog.... to keep it leashed.... to make a way that it can't get out. I understand that dogs get out. Mine, in 5 years, has gotten out maybe 5 or 6 times... Because our dog circles and runs to the front door to get back in, I'm not worried. If ours was aggressive, I'd have to put extra rules on what we do with it. Our dog knows not to just run out the front door. There are many things you can do, including training it with invisible fencing, putting it in the kennel before you open the door....leashing it when playing in the front. The main thing is that it's their dog and they need to come up with a plan to keep it in their yard. :)
  10. You need to record this in some type of formal way. How would you handle it if say.... later it became infected and they wanted to claim that your dog wasn't on a leash or in your yard? A dog who's been bitten can become increasingly aggressive which has two problems for you. First, this affects how your dog could act with other dogs. Second, your dog could be attacked, fight back, and your kids (or theirs) could be caught in the middle. I've always taught my kids to try to keep our dog from other dogs, but in the end, dogs are dogs... and they need to get out of the way. My dog isn't agressive, but is around 65lbs and has been attacked 3 times :(
  11. I'd want to know about all adults coming into contact with my children :) BUT, that comes back to respect and that the schools don't necessarily think they owe it to parents ;)
  12. I'm all for celebrating Holidays that are Religious :) Call it "Cultural Awareness" :) In Sweden, of all places, my "step" nephew studied the Old Testament, particularly Moses... as I recall :) (It's cultural awareness...) That was in his Montessori 8th grade class... I like Christmas, Thanksgiving... (what about those who don't like that America changed, perhaps we shouldn't celebrate Thanksgiving??) Easter.... I would be fine celebrating Halloween, too :) Purim (secular celebrations to many young Jewish people, fun to drink & party) BUT... history awareness.... about Esther asking on the Jew's behalf for freedom. and Yom Kippur....and Hannukah... celebrating the lasting of the oil in the Temple.... I'll celebrate anything that isn't about Anti-America ;) And candy?? I love picking through my son's for the best pieces :)
  13. We're doing Backyard Ballistics and it's been a blast... (think this is the name of the book, too :))
  14. FINALLY I'm a "big enough girl" that I worked up to driving for 5 hrs :) My parents are a mile away and we visit with them often. If my MIL was within 6 hrs or less, and wanted a relationship, I'd be willing to drive there as much as once every 4-6 weeks. I'd probably leave as early as I could Thursday or Friday and come back on Sunday or Monday. All of it would depend on which kids came, as some are in school. But, my son is only 9yrs old and all of his stuff can be switched around. I'd actually fly over once a year, to MI, but my son exhausts her and it's not relaxing....
  15. Hmmmm..... I'm mean I guess. I can't say with certainty I'd call. If I did, I'd call from a pay phone and say that I might have the dog. Can you tell me how it looks? Ask about it.... and ask if it's microchipped.... Hmmm.... I mean, my dog wouldn't look that horrible, period. The long nails could be if the person is old, sometimes they don't get the nails clipped.... Hmmmmmmm (Ask how long the dog was out and then remember how the dog looked when you got it....)
  16. Well, I'm sure you'll get advice from others, but I think you should go to the Pacific Science Center a ton and enjoy playing there. There is SO much to do there. Don't forget to see the King Tut Exhibit before it leaves (forever). My son who is 9yrs old LOVED the museum there... :)
  17. Make sure to have lots of probiotics... Probiotic Pills (good ones), Kefir, Yogurt.... Kombucha...
  18. So, I'm wondering if you enjoyed these.... These are the ones I'm thinking of purchasing. My son (9yrs old) seems to enjoy listening to different books that are for kids older... Did you enjoy them? Did your kids? How old were they... etc. I have a credit at this store and could finally rationalize purchasing them :) The two books at the bottom are bonus purchases... :) Exploring Planet Earth Exploring the History of Medicine Exploring the World of Chemistry Exploring the World of Mathematics Exploring the World of Physics Exploring the World of Biology More Joy of Mathematics Magic of Mathematics
