  1. I know someone who does that yawn thing where they stretch and yawn while talking. I did not realize it was unconscious until I had asked her several times(on different occasions) if she was tired. She did seem offended the last time and asked me why I would ask that. OK, then. I said I was sorry and I have never done that again.
  2. I don't feel like any of this applies to being left handed. I do not equate not buying special scissors with not providing glasses to my child. It is not making him disabled, nor does he consider himself so. He is learning to use power tools and other equipment. He is 7. I do not want him to feel at a loss or incapable of using tools that are on a jobsite. When you put someone in that situation and you teach him that he need all sorts of special things to get through life, that's when it feels like a disability. You have made it so for your child. He would be forced to use a dangerous tool he is not familiar with and that's when accidents happen.
  3. We just expect our leftie to adapt. Like he will all his life. We have a family of woodworkers and tradesmen. You would have thought ds had an illness preventing him from working all his life according to my fil. (Ridiculous, I know.) Can't easily find left-handed hand and power tools. We decided to teach him from a young age to adapt using tools available.
  4. How about the Greetings from Somewhere series? Ds7 loves these. They are a mystery series that has a geography theme.
  5. Agree with PP about Pop having longer bus wait times. The bus would fill up fast and the walk to the bus is farther. But, I would still choose POP. :)
  6. Donna Young has free printables. I used a combo from all over to create our nature journals this year. And you can make the cover anything you want. :)
  7. My dd13 has participated for 2 years. She wrote her 1st novel in April as a result of the structure and encouragement that the website has provided. Her book is over 300 pages! She is self motivated, though. Her first experience was good, but, she also became frustrated with trying to reach her goal and didn't like her plot by the end. There is Camp Nano now for this month. Her goal is 120000 words. She is a natural writer and the forums have given her a lot of joy. The encouragement from other writers has been invaluable. She did not use the workbook. However, I used it as a main source in teaching creative writing at our co op.
  8. Thanks! I was just going to check sites for paper today.
  9. I agree. My Epson inkjet works well and is cheap to use. But, for books and such, I do have a Brother laser printer that I love because of the auto duplex!! And it prints so fast. I replace the toner twice a year and probably print 4000-4500 pages on it in a year.
  10. Something simple. I would add wrought iron spindles and maybe a white handrail to the front porch. A fun and vibrant front door color would set it off. Really, it's such a cute house! We renovated a 1890"s Craftsman. We are ready to sell(after 16 years) and move on to the next project.
  11. We live near a Cooper's Hawk. I love almost all their reds. They are $12 a bottle. I like sweeter wines also. I am always bummed when I take a chance and the wine is dry. I am writing down suggestions.
  12. We stay on property usually at a value with adjoining rooms. We have stayed at a family suite, but your group is too big. We had 1 less and a baby under three then. We travel during free dining. It is always a better deal for us and less stressful for me not to have to plan who will share food, etc. We eat breakfast on the go(we are not really breakfast lovers anyway). We have VERY little spending while there. I get each kid a Disney giftcard for souvenirs. When that is gone, it's gone. We try to figure out what tips will be and so there is very little surprise spending. I have seen families there fighting over cost and money, etc. Not gonna happen to us on our vacation. :) We have gone with kids about your kids' ages. Always fun.
  13. Thank you for your further explanation. Helps a lot.
  14. We have not. She has had lots of grammar. We did EiW in 5th grade. We do writing prompts(Sonlight). She does very well with all of that. I was just thinking of something that we could work on that would give structure. Maybe include some informal writing also. She really does write well. I have a hard time seeing high school writing programs that would challenge her. I actually had not thought of that. Hm...analyzing articles. I like that. Does WWS train you to do that? I will look at that, thank you.
  15. I need writing instruction for my dd13. She is a future writer and has just completed her first novel(over 300 pages!) She loves creative writing prompts. So I definitely wish to include those, but she also needs more formal instruction. I am a science/math kinda girl, so this is stretching me.:) TIA!
  16. We have gone many times and we have a big group:) The suites are nice but you have 5 1/2 adult size people. I would probably go with adjoining rooms. If you want the most inexpensive route, it would be All stars Music, Movies, or Pop Century. We stayed in Music in a family suite. Since it is not all spread out, the walk to the bus was very short.(and dining court-which was nice). We have never stayed in a deluxe(because of finances). We have stayed value and moderate and really there was very little difference. Disney quality is at every level. Actually, my kids prefer the value resorts because they love the colorful themes. The value resorts buses in our experience have always been superior. They come so often. One year we were worried that we were staying in a value that was housing the pop warner groups. We thought it would make it hard to get a bus. Well, we were sent 2 at a time. Disney anticipated and we never waited more than a couple minutes any time of the day! I can not imagine only having a week and trying to do more than Disney. I know some people do. Disney is A LOT. And if you have never been there before, you can't imagine what I am talking about. :) We have gone in the fall(Sept & Oct),late Nov-Dec, and May. I know summer is doable, but we can go other less crowded times, so we do. Our favorite time was after Thanksgiving. The crowds were low and the decorations were fantastic! It was warm enough to swim some days and nights and it was cool enough to wear a sweatshirt some nights. Not a whole lot of sweating like in Sept. We always try to plan our vacation for free dining. It is never guaranteed, but there are historic free dining dates. Disney is starting to add more "strings attached" restrictions to their free dining promotion. A couple of the parks will take 2 days, so keep that in mind. And walking around all day is exhausting!! Plan on breaks and afternoons at the pool or you will get home and feel like you need a vacation after your vacation! I too LOVE planning Disney trips. It is so much fun! From checking attendance charts and deciding what parks to go to what days to what restaurants to eat at(you need advance reservations for most sit down restaurants). I also agree with Minniewannabe and all her expertise. :) Have fun!! I can give favorite restaurant recommendations if you want as well. We have made it to most of them over the course of many trips. ETA: We usually stay 10 days. Tickets are practically free and we are there, so really the only additional cost is hotel (and food-without free dining).
  17. Sliced, raw, a little salt. Yummy. Reminds me a lot of cabbage hearts.
  18. I always hold on to 10-15 pounds until I am done nursing. I can not lose wait while I am BF. I lose the weight slowly after I stop.
  19. I schedule 2 a week as handwriting. The drawing is required but i don't critique or grade it. The handwriting is "graded". All my kids have LOVED DWN.
  20. We paid someone to administer the test(Iowa) It was 1 day at the library. Maybe 15 kids were there and she charged $20 per kid to administer the test and it also covered shipping. Maybe you could advertise and do something like that?
  21. No, this is not at all required. I bought a lapbook from Live and Learn press and it has been AWESOME. She doesn't grade to OYO questions. The tests are online.
  22. We did the live General Science class. It has been good. I had to schedule the reading/OYO questions during the week, as nothing is really "assigned". 1st week is lecture on entire module. 2nd week is game day in class for review.
  23. We have had Sigg and Kleen Kanteen. I also accidently bought a personalized "non brand" at Pottery Barn Kids. I thought it was KK. The KK ones that had were different colors and personalized have chipped badly over 3 years with moderate to heavy use. The "non brand" has a character on it and is personalized. We have only had it since Christmas, and it looks great. I bought a Kleen Kanteen that has no color(and is not personalized). It looks great. Both SIGG bottles have had issues. One had so much paint come off, I felt it was a health hazard. The other started eroding from the inside and made the water taste like rust. The company replaced the first bottle, but I can not get them to respond(over multiple attempts to contact) to the second issue. I will not buy another SIGG.
  24. We wrote a letter(in the process of buying it now). Our realtor says he usually discourages it, but our attitude was not emotional and he thought in our situation it may help. The sellers built the house 40 years ago and maintained in meticulously, but never updated it in the least. They were moving to a retirement facility and are sad about going. We said in our letter how much we loved the style and details(we do) and our goal is to keep with the overall style and update it. We also will be finishing the basement to add bedrooms for our family of 8. I mentioned how we renovated our 1890 Craftsman home over the last 16 years. Realtor said it was perfect. They chose our offer(much below asking!) although they had another one. So, I think in some circumstances it would help.
  25. Right. Her mouth will be doing a lot of changing. Fitting for a flipper now would not work. It is a good idea for her teeth to stay in as long as possible to retain the integrity of her bone level. I know it is hard.
