  1. A pediatric dentist should be able to do a splint. Once her teeth come out, she can get a flipper like a retainer with teeth on it. That can hold her until she is able to have the implants. There is no way to determine how long the resorption will take. It may slow down.
  2. We using CLE LAin Gr 1 and 4. I bought the teacher's guide for 1 and just the answer key for 4. The teacher's guide is kind of scripted and has all the pages just like the workbooks. The answer keys are just the answers. I would probably just buy those in the future. The lessons are about 4 pages. They take my kids 20 or so minutes to complete.
  3. I would purchase it for 50% plus shipping. I actually have bought many 1 year used cores for 50%.
  4. Sometimes tissue gets caught over the chewing surface as the 12 year molars are erupting. Or most of the tooth has erupted and now the very back part is coming in fully. It would be HIGHLY unlikely it is a wisdom tooth.
  5. That's the one I thought you meant. If I wanted that specific set, I would say it's a good used price.
  6. I've lived here my whole life. I'm closer to Chicago, so we get more lake-effect snow. I second the suggestion of getting good coats and buying them now. SOOOO much cheaper at the end of season. We layer clothes like t shirts under sweatshirts because the temp can be 40 degrees in the morning and 65 by afternoon.lol Weather can be pretty unpredictable. We had 4 inches of snow yesterday! We don't wear long underwear unless the kids are playing outside. We don't carry a bunch of emergency stuff because we are not in "no man's land". I have great cell reception:) Homeschooling communities around your new areas are plentiful. Good luck with your move.
  7. For the Apologia and Logos set?? Sounds like a great deal!! It will cost you a fortune to mail that physics set.
  8. I agree with the 50% guideline. I decide it is better to buy new rather than pay more than half the new price. I never buy school stuff in anticipation of selling it to absorb some of the cost.
  9. Ours is $7.25 in the midwest. That's what I pay. No way would I pay $12-15/hr. My daughter is almost 13 and she will volunteer many hours to those who can't pay and will accept whatever she is offered when she starts to babysit.
  10. I pay our 17 yo babysitter minimum wage to babysit 5 kids. My oldest is almost 13 and she does most of the work like changing the 2 year old and putting him down for a nap. Our babysitter is committed one afternoon a week for 4 hours so I can work. She does not do any housework at all( per my instructions). The rates being quoted are outrageous. No way would I pay that. In my office, many of the skilled staff make $15/hr...
  11. My kids wear sweatshirts with hoods and a coat. We do have a minivan so we can jump in and put kids in. We take coat off and leave sweatshirt with hood on and buckle up. Then lay a blanket over. Those cheap($3) blankets are compact and work great. Warm the car when you can. Babies in infant carriers are easy. Just buckle in the house or before going out and tuck a blanket tight around sides and feet and lay one over. My sister in law sewed a great solution to laying the blanket over baby's face. She sewed ribbon to the center of the blanket so it could be tied to the carseat handle creating a tent. She also sewed in elastic to the ends to hook over but that is not necessary.
  12. Ours was built in 1890. We are lucky enough to know the family who lived here then(well, their kids' kids). The owners also owned a general store in our town. We have found lots of fun things during our renovations over the last 15 years. We kept the front door and some floors. Most things needed replaced. The original garage was torn down and a new one put up. the coal room was ripped out of the basement. I love this house and it is so hard as we are outgrowing it and should be looking for another. Hard to imagine living somewhere else.
  13. We had a Town and Country with 5 kids. One teen, one pre teen, 1 in a booster, 2 in 5 point harnesses. It worked great. Then we added another baby. lol We got a Honda Odyssey and I love it. We only have 5 kids in our car regularly now(teen went to college) But we all fit comfortably when we ride, even our tall 19 year old. We have 1 booster, 1 five point, and one rear facing 5 point. I LOVE the full sized middle seat in the middle row.
  14. Our Cav is 7. She is the most loving and needy(needing a lap!) dog ever. Perfect for snuggling! She has luxating patella on both sides so she may have issues with arthritis later we were told. Also she has horrible periodontal disease and will be totally edentulous in a year or so,:( We will love her and enjoy her but will probably not get another of her breed...
  15. I too am unable to hold an immunity to Rubella. Out of 6 pregnancies(6 titres) I have shown non-immunity in 4 of them. My niece had Rubella at the time of my first pregnancy. She was immunized on schedule, but still had a case at age 3. They were staying at our house and they left right away and stayed somewhere else until she was over it. There was an outbreak at her preschool(Catholic-many chose to not do the MMR), but half of the kids that contracted it had had the first MMR on schedule. I had only heard there was a "bad batch" in 1975ish when I had mine. Apparently many did not get immunized properly then? I also had the "measles"(my mom did not remember for sure-but thought it was German Measles aka Rubella) around 1981 a few months after Chicken Pox lol. I remember a very uncomfortable time!! And I continue to show no immunity to Rubella...After 2 doses MMR, possibly the disease itself, AND 4 boosters...That's crazy!! Makes me want to check all titres.....On everyone in my family...
  16. The biggest thing I've done is to rubber band each box and store them like books on their sides. So when one gets removed the whole pile doesn't move.Made a HUGE difference.
  17. My husband is a painter. When he is consulting about colors, he always suggests one shade deeper than the customer chooses when they are wavering. People always say they want neutral. They think that means light. Customers are always happy they went with a deeper shade. It gives a room more warmth. The ceiling needs to be a much lighter color(and coordinating).
  18. I like the name a lot. It looks like Lyla, though, and that's how I would pronounce it. Lie-rah How about Learah?
  19. Toothpaste is not as important as the brushing. Let him brush without the toothpaste. Plaque removal is VERY important with demineralization. I planned on sharing how the decay was arrested in my 7 year old and he never needed fillings. I don't think it would fall in the "natural" category you are seeking though.
  20. Agreeing with so many. I NEVER spend as much money on the babies. We have so many baby toys and my 1 year old doesn't play with toys much other than his brothers' big boy stuff! I have bought new shoes, cloth diapers, baby legs(leg warmers), toothbrushes, sippie cups, baby dinnerware, snacks, etc. and wrapped them for babies to open. I usually only get the baby 1 or 2 toys or playthings.
  21. DO IT!! My husband got his braces off(a long 4 years of ortho) just before his 40th birthday. He is so happy and way more confident. He owns a business and was always self conscious. My mother-in-law is about to get hers off soon too. :) She thought she was too old. So NOT true!! She did her treatment for a severe bite issue that was starting to compromise some expensive dental work she had done. I have never had an adult patient say he/she regretted having it done. They tend to be great at maintaining them between cleanings(much better than than the kids or teens).
  22. Yes,but patients are now expecting to live their whole lives with their natural teeth. That was not the case just 30-40 years ago. That dental industry was one of emergencies and extractions. People were lucky to keep their teeth their whole lives. Now dentistry focuses on prevention with an expectation of never having dentures. We replace missing teeth routinely. That just did not happen much a few decades ago. People accepted tooth loss as a part of life. Poorly aligned teeth can lead to early tooth loss.
  23. General dentists must offer to refer for ortho. We must note that in the chart. If the dentist does not do this, he may be accused of failure to diagnose and be sued. It stinks. Do all the patients NEED ortho treatment who are referred? That depends on the person/his parents/his situation. Most PARENTS ask about when the kids should be evaluated. Kids are being seen in most ortho offices for 2 phase ortho treatment. Most of these cases are to address developmental issues, not just simple overcrowding and misalignment. It is much easier to address palate issues at a young age. Almost all people could be treated with ortho and there would be an improvement. That makes it pretty hard to distinguish who really needs it, I guess. My oldest decided he wanted braces just a few months before he left for college.(Great timing!!) I had offered it to him at any time he was willing to keep his teeth clean on his own and make the diet changes and allowances need to have a successful case. His was 100% cosmetic. He had spacing that he assured me he was just fine with. He changed his mind, and we did it. He will have them on for 12-14 months. We financially can swing it and are happy to do it. If we could not, I would feel fine telling him to wait and get braces before he picks out his first new car.:) I will tell you that often the patients or parents of the patients who complain about cost are the same ones who are so happy to tell you about their last vacation, new house, new pool, new car... I am not telling them what they should spend money on. Not my business. Maybe they were all gifts? I don't know unless they tell me. Maybe they were all on a credit card? Well, our office accepts credit cards. It seems very easy for patients to separate personal expenses and their budget for dental care.
