Moxie
I really wish the search function worked on this forum. We've had threads in the past that mentioned supplements for mild anxiety and depression. Can we have another one? Any advice? Exercise and diet are on point.

Guest
There's something called Valerian Complex that has been of help with mild anxiety.
Random
I think it might depend on the cause of the depression? Not sure about that. Omega-3 supplements really help mitigate my PMDD-caused depression and anxiety. As a side note: 5-HTP can be contraindicated in people with heart disease. There's not a study (I think) 'proving' this, but there has been some writing about how too much 5 HTP can raise serotonin levels too high, which may lead to heart valve damage & scarring. (I used to take 5htp, and am pretty sure it caused some damage my cardiologist is treating. I was not taking a large dose.)
mom of 2 boys
Fish oil takes the edge off for me. I read a book called "The Depression Cure" and it honestly helped me a bit. I'm also using "Talk Space" (online therapy) which is also helping more than I expected it to. Not that those last two are supplements, but they are all natural! ;)

gaillardia
I took St. John's Wort but had to give it time...2-4 weeks. I tried using a combination of herbs that had Valerian in it and it made me too sleepy. Drinking ginseng drinks helped me also, but I can't remember the brand or what form it was...it was Chinese I think.
happi duck
The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook by Bourne has a lot of information on supplements. Your library might have it. I do better when I'm consistent with b vitamins, d, c, and magnesium.

scrapbookbuzz
A couple of options: Licorice root tea or capsules for depression. The dean of my herbal school also recommends blending up a whole pineapple (minus outer parts of course) with some vanilla added in. Blend into a smoothie and drink. St John's Wort works for that too. It best not to take it you live in sunny location as it can increase photo sensitivity.
Liz CA
B Complex and Omega 3. Recommended doses were 1050mg EPA daily if you are disthymic. Forgot to add magnesium - something like ReMag by Carolyn Dean or Jigsaw Magnesium caps. Edited February 25, 2017 by Liz CA

I am not currently taking it, but have in the past and was about to start up again. I've had a recent unexplained jump in my blood pressure and heart rate, now controlled with medication. I think I'll skip the 5Htp.
gardenmom5
Anxiety. Douglas labs ashwaghanda 1200mg. Combined with pure encapsulation bacopa monerii - 2 capsules. Split the dose. Amazing for two of mine. I use 5htp for both depression and anxiety. I take 2x the dose on the bottle, with my Dr's suggestion. Gaba is also helpful for situational anxiety - take it beforehand.
