Can anyone weigh in on IKEA beds/mattresses?

We are most likely leaving all of the kids' furniture here when we move. I'm thinking of buying IKEA beds/mattresses for them. Can anyone share their experiences?

I'm looking at the Brimnes day bed: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40228708/, the Flaxa http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79031466/.....and other non-bunk but with storage opportunities single beds...

We have two Ikea beds here, both the Malm platform bed. We've had for 2 and 3 years. Overall, no complaints. We did break our bed, as I was rearranging my room, we were sliding the king size bed across the carpet, and near the headboard area, where two pieces met on the bottom, it kinda snapped at the "joint"....it was composite wood there (I think that is was the particle/pressboard wood stuff is called). Kinda our fault, and we were able to fix it enough it's still functional, though we won't be moving it again and lesson learned. We get our mattresses from Overstock.com, memory foam, love them!

Anyone who loves Ikea mattress have fibromyalgia or CFS? Are they comfortable enough to allow you a good nights rest?

I have fibro and I will be upgrading to a slightly firmer top mattress. I've also bought one of those hard pillows and am now doing better.

We've had IKEA bunk beds and mattresses since 2006. They've moved three times with us. We love them.

We had an IKEA king platform bed and mattress. Within the first few months, the slats kept slipping. The mattress was way too firm for us, but we thought we wanted firm. We had it for a few years. Now we have a Costco bed that we love and a Tempurpedic mattress that I spend way too much time in.

Every one in my family has an IKEA bedframe. Love them. My youngest has a bed like the one you're showing. He put it together himself and, IIRC, it had some tricky parts to put together, just so you know.

We also have the mattresses and love those, too. Very comfy.

I live in the the House of IKEA. :)

We have had Ikea beds and foam mattresses for the boys for years - five years in Hobbes' case - Calvin now has a larger bed.  The beds and mattresses have both been fine - no complaints.

Husband and I have a cheap Ikea frame with another company's sprung mattress - no complaints about the frame.

We had an Ikea bed frame, mattress, and pillowtop.  The bedframe wasn't very good, and we had to be careful during our tea parties, or it would partially break. ;)  The mattress was meh, and sheer hell during pregnancy.  I loved the pillowtop, though.  We replaced it all last year when I was pregnant with #2 and put the Ikea stuff in the guest room.  FIL says it's an extremely comfortable mattress, and he's about twice my size, so go figure!

My oldest daughter had an IKEA full platform bed and mattress  and they were both pretty awful.  The slats would not stay on the bed frame, and the mattress was horribly uncomfortable.  It just sank in the middle after a very short number of months of use.  Seriously disappointing.

Still, she just got another of the beds (not the mattress....never again!) last weekend.  It's the Malm.  It seems much, much sturdier than the last one she had, years ago, and there is a mechanism in place on the center bar part of the frame to help keep the slats from slipping.  Unfortunately, we didn't know or see that mechanism, and the very first time she laid on her bed after putting it together last weekend the slats slipped, the mattress fell through, and she bent one of the flimsy metal support rods.  Sigh.

People love IKEA and their stuff, especially the furniture.  I'm just not really sold.  She does seem to like it, and it is certainly a better constructed piece of furniture than the last one we bought, but I don't think I'd have one for myself.

All 3 of my children have IKEA beds and mattresses (foam w/toppers). They don't like the mattresses and are always making comments about how comfy my bed, with its standard pillowtop mattress/box spring set-up, is compared to theirs. DD has a Hemnes bed, and it is not sturdy at all. We have had to make all sorts of modifications to keep it together. It doesn't help that we've moved with it a few times but even when we first got the bed it wasn't great. I'm not sure of the name of the boys' beds, but they are the kind that you can lift the slats for storage underneath. The frames seem much sturdier, although the bottom of the storage area is pretty flimsy (laminated particle board).

In contrast, the bedroom furniture and mattress set we bought from some guy selling new furniture out of a storage garage when we first got married (so about 13 years ago) has stood up well despite our many moves. The pieces are all made of real wood though, while our IKEA beds are not.

We have Kuras with foam mattresses (the ones IKEA sells rolled up in a bag). They've been great and the beds have been super sturdy. My 11yo is getting too heavy for his though. The mattress just sits on wood slats and he's gotten to the point where it's uncomfortable for him. I think we will buy him a regular mattress set soon and hand the Kura bed down to the baby when he graduates from his crib :)

My middle child has the 85% natural latex they once carried. For my youngest we bought latex via sleepez for about the same price, and it is all natural latex vs a blend. I am happy with our ikea but if buying again would do sleepez. DH and I sleep on a more expensive latex mattress. Had I known about sleepez at the time I would have considered that option.

We had a Leskvik bed frame (or something like that) which I'm pretty sure has been discontinued. It didn't survive being reassembled three times due to moving, but had it been kept in one room, it would have been fine.

I would be more hesitant about the drawers on the daybed. Unless you keep really light items in them, the board that the bottom of the drawer is made of tends to buckle.

We don't have any of their beds, but do have their memory foam mattresses.  Both were from the Sultan line which is now discontinued.  The closest to what we bought is this: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/90272402/

We like the mattresses very much.  Ds, especially, sleeps far better than he did on a conventional spring mattress and wakes up feeling limber and rested instead of like he has to do stretches to get moving.

We have the Hemnes daybed, which looks similar to the one you linked, and bought the thickest foam mattresses they had at the time (looks like it's now discontinued).  Do you intend to pull out the trundle portion often, or just keep it in the daybed position?  The trundle part is a pain to pull out on hardwoods, and nearly impossible on carpet.  The slats seem to get bent out of shape easily, and we've had quite a few break as well randomly (ie, when opening a drawer).  It's also a bear to assemble.  With the foam mattress, it's definitely firm, and not something I'd want to sleep on all the time, but we use it mainly for a guest bed or for a nap spot for DS.  I'd replace it in a heartbeat if I could find something similar (trundle on the same level as the main bed *with* storage) that's better made, but suspect the reason I haven't been able to yet is that the design isn't very sound.  If that's what you're looking for or need, then Ikea is pretty much your only option!
