Remudamom
There's a bunch of college kids downstairs and they have purple koolaid in my living room. Where it can be spilled on my gorgeous oriental rug. That has a cream background. I hate to be a no food on my rug person, and people are more important to me than the rug, but I just had to leave the room.
Ravin
I'd be contemplating going down there and rolling up the rug. College students could get just as rowdy as four year olds, and I have visions of a certain Curious George episode.
athena1277
If it's any consolation, dd spilled an entire plate of hot spaghetti on the carpet today. And while dh was trying to clean up the big pieces, I looked under the kitchen sink for carpet cleaner and found a puddle.
Remudamom
It's too big to roll up. It's the oriental rug I got when my parents divorced. I was the only kid at that time with a big enough room. The kids are great but today has been horrible. Before they got here there were two plugged toilets and kitchen sink trouble. I broke the coffee pot and spilled it all over and then I stepped in a present from a cat with a bad tummy. Now I'm googling carpet cleaning. Well, look at it this way: You have already gotten your share of crud for today. Everything else should go in your favor. Right? :hat:

jeninok
I don't allow grape drinks in the house! I don't want to be the person freaking out over beverages so we just don't drink it. No Hawaiin punch or red koolaid either...but DS reacts to that much red coloring, so I have a good excuse!
Remudamom
I told dh this was the last time I ever had it in my house. Might be too late.
Desert Rat
I don't know about oriental rugs. I do know they sometimes need special care. But, I've always had good luck with Spot Shot. There's also a product made just for wine, grape juice etc. I think it's called Wine Out. FYI Fingers crossed you won't need the info! bettyandbob
Go to the store and get seltzer now. When you spill a colored liquid (or blood) pour seltzer on, blot it out and pour again, repeat until the offending color/stain is gone. You do this as soon at the spill happens, not when it's dry. For future events consider a clear drink policy : seltzer, ginger ale, sprite maybe lemonade. For older people and gatherings not for college students white wine and beer, but never red wine. I've rolled up my large rug. It's worth the effort of moving the furniture (and college age kids have the backs to move furniture), if it will save you anxiety. Seasider
FWIW, even clear drinks are trouble if they contain any sugar. Worse, you often think you've cleaned it all up, only to have a patch darken over time because dust and dirt are sticking to the residual sugar. We had 20 college students a few weekends ago. I sent them to the room with the crummiest carpet! Thank goodness that's where they most wanted to be anyway. Remudamom, I hope your rug goes unscathed this evening. I would have had to leave the room, too. Next time make your big kids do the work to roll it up. Hope tomorrow goes better for you!
Starr
We kept ours outside for a party today, most of the day. I know how you feel. It was marshmallow guns and those marshmallows are always stuck to someones shoe. As for the koolaid, well you should just :svengo: and :leaving: . Anne in CA
My kids spilled grape Tang from Mexico on my Nepalese rug that would cost $$$ to replace. I had a big fit, we soaked it in Woolite, it didn't get clean, I had a big fit, we took it to the front yard and hosed it off aggressively, now you can't tell. It'll be okay. I have been there, lol.
