Blue Hen
So the day started as all our Sunday mornings do --- getting the boys up early to get to the rink for their inline speed skating practice. I popped the car trunk open to put my book "Outliers" into the trunk and spotted a grocery bag. Right in the middle of the trunk was the 11# Sirlon Roast purchased Friday morning. "Everybody" claimed to have totally emptied the trunk, but "Nobody" saw the bag and "everyone" is claiming that "someone" should have made sure the trunk was empty. This leads to the question of the day: Would you cook the roast and feed the roast to your dogs? DH says yes, DS says no. Our one dog is 135# and other one is 65#, if that makes any difference. ps--car was in the garage, temperature here on Friday was 50's, overnight Friday and Saturday night into the high 20's, Saturday temperature here was in the high 70s. Blue Hen
Yes, it smelled wonderful. No off-odor at all, looked nice too. Carole

Tap
I personally wouldn't risk the dogs getting sick over a roast. You can see/smell all bacteria. Overnight on a cold evening, would be one thing, for 48 hours...not a chance.
ereks mom
me too -- probably wouldn't bother cooking it though
Tree House Academy
Did you originally buy the roast for your dogs? If not, I would toss it. Rebecca (who doeesn't feed her dog table food...on purpose)

Karen sn
My dog has had worse in his mouth. I think most have.
Soph the vet
Anything you think you can get from a roast sitting in a car over the weekend your dogs can get as well, just FYI. They can get E. coli and Salmonella poisoning just like us. So if it were my dogs, I would not feed it. And smell means nothing, BTW, according to microbiologists. Pamela H in Texas
If it smelled okay, I would...but I wouldn't bother cooking it first. Dogs like raw! Well, depends....that length of time is getting to me....big time...but then the weather was so mild. I'm kinda inbetween....I'd ask my daughter. LOL
runninmommy
I would feed it to them. But my dogs catch wild animals and eat them. They eat from the cat box. I would not worry about a roast you are going to cook and feed to them. That is just me.
Remudamom
Good grief, let the dogs have it. You wouldn't believe the things the ranch dogs eat, enjoy and don't suffer ill effects.
browneyedgirl
well I wouldn't even cook it for my dogs....they'd eat it as is....trust me they have found far worse and eaten it!
Margaret in GA
I would feed it to them raw, not cooked. My dog routinely finds deer and other carrion that is many, many days old and hasn't been sick yet. Honestly, I think animals are set up to handle more germs than humans. Impish
Personally, I agree with feeding dogs a raw diet *shrugs* That being said, if I had question about it being safe to consume for humans, I wouldn't feed it to my dog
SonshineLearner
I would, I'd wash it off...and put them outside with it. If they might fight, I'd cut it in two. Of course, I am in love with my dog....but he's gotten enough "no-no's" from places I won't speak about...that I think he has an iron stomach....And, if humans and dogs can get the same things....then I shouldn't be as careful about what our family eats.... CUZ, so far...my dog can eat anything....
Crissy
I wouldn't be willing to risk the cost of a vet visit versus the cost of tossing a spoiled piece of meat.
BearLair
I wouldn't want to bring something I 'suspected' into my kitchen and risk spreading anything. Our dogs eat the most disgusting stuff they can find everytime we're out hiking....I don't see how this roast could hurt them.
