  1. Good luck with your new adventure, Jennifer. We really value our experience. It was a huge blessing.
  2. Yes, lots of changes. The military keeps you on the edge of your seat. :001_smile:
  3. My husband is in the military and we have decided to stay in for a while longer. We are in love with the property but don't really have family or roots here. We decided to retire in AK, so many things weighed in toward the decision. It was a hard decision to make. We have so many memories here and we have grown so much as a family. I just hope the property will be a blessing to another family.
  4. Some of you have followed our journey starting a small hobby farm. Now that we have finished the projects and made so many good memories, it is time to move on. If you know anyone who may be interested in moving to the country in the Montgomery area, this may be a good fit. http://herdingducks.blogspot.com/2011/03/herding-duckshome-for-sale.html Camille
  5. You must not be from the South. This is what grits are for. I put scrambled eggs, cheese, and jalepenos in mine. Yum.
  6. I should not have read this while eating my oatmeal. Gross. :ack2:
  7. Here is some information that you may find helpful: http://www.kencollins.com/question-41.htm
  8. Thank you for the replies so far. We are military, so our only choices would be the ones mentioned. I am a little hopeful now. I almost ruled out the NE b/c I thought it would be too tedious or I would not be able to use my curriculum. I can handle paperwork, I just don't want to have to fight over things. We stick pretty close to what WTM recommends, has anyone had any issues?
  9. If you live or have lived in NY (NYC), Pa or RI could you share your experiences with homeschooling? The laws seem pretty strict and not very friendly. I would love to live in the NE, but not if that means losing control over the way we homeschool. TIA, Camille
  10. I don't call anyone after 7:30 and I would be irritated if someone called me after 8:00. We get up really early though.
  11. I'm sorry but I have to say that I am soooooo glad to live out in the country. We can yell, mow, cut brush, blast our music, and let our dogs run without even thinking twice about neighbors. If someone came on my property and cut anything, we would have major issues.

  13. I would work in weight lifting at least twice a week, targeting your abs/back. It is the difference between feeling "hammered in the ground" and running strong. : )
  14. We lived in Alaska before Alabama, so I think we will acclimate to the winter/climate well. The kids are excited to see snow again. There seems to be a lot of unschoolers there. Is that accurate? Anyone have any input on the homeschool groups/activities there?
  15. Thanks for all your help yesterday. We had to make a quick decision and settled on Butte, Mt. So, for those of you currently there, please tell me all about it. How is the homeschool community? Are there any neat programs for kids in the area? Is there a community/youth center? As for buying a house, we would like to be a little out in the country with some land if at all possible. Are there areas we should avoid? Areas to consider? We will have a couple horses we are taking with us. I wish I could take my whole farm. : ( What do you like most/least about the area? Anything you wish you would have known before moving there? We are small town type of people, so I think we will fit in well. I appreciate any feedback you may have. TIA,
  16. The town in WI is Wassau. Boy, was I way off or what? lol. My head has been spinning all day. We have only been here 1 year and I was not prepared to move this quickly. First, homeschool friendly is important. I checked HSLDA on on 3 states. The only one I am a little unclear on is WI. Basically, I have to teach their basic subjects, submit a statement of enrollment by Oct 15 and keep attendance. Is that right? For those who homeschool in Washington, was it difficult to be deemed "competent" to teach your children? Do you know of anyone that has been denied? Does anyone have a poc for homeschool groups in any of those areas? I'll check yahoo and some other places but maybe someone knows a really good one. Other than homeschool experiences, my priorities would be cost of living ie, housing, property taxes etc., population (we like it rural), preferably a conservative area (if that even really exists anymore) and I would love to have neat things for the kids to do within reasonable driving distance (museums, science centers, a good YMCA). I don't like heavily populated areas and hate traffic. On the other hand, if the area is too small then it is hard to make friends and settle in as the outsider. I had to go through that before and it is not fun. Kind of like, if your not raised here you don't belong here mentality. We will not be located by a base, so that will be a little difficult as well. Being the only military family in town can pose its challenges. Been there, done that as well. lol. Thank you for the input so far, I appreciate you taking the time to answer.
  17. I was in shock when my DH told me. I'm having a hard time remembering. Maybe Washburn or Ashland. I'll have to ask him again. I have never been there. Lets see, homes school experiences would be nice, we are interested in farm/country life, things for kids to do, college recommendations (for me), camping/fishing/hunting etc. I have to run to town right now but I will try to come back later with more specifics when the shock has worn off. TIA
  18. Butte, Montana Kennewick, Washington Wisconsin (not sure exact location) We have a chance to move to one of the above locations. If familiar, could you please tell me the pros/cons, advantages/disadvantages and experiences of these places? Thank you
  19. My first thought was the bagel. How close to your run start time did you eat the bagel? If it was too soon, most of your energy/blood is being directed toward digestion. Bagels are heavy and take more energy to digest. That could zap your energy. Are you drinking enough water before your run? What does your weekly routine look like? How many x-training days, run days and rest days do you have? What % are you increasing your distance each week? Also, are you working with weights?
  20. All good suggestions. Also check your duct work, vents, and heating unit. There may be holes or improper insulation. Do you have a heat pump?
  21. Wow. Thank you for sharing! I see you raised more than needed. How much time did you have to do it in?
  22. Has anyone here participated? If so, will you share your experience? How difficult was it to raise the funds? Also, is 12 weeks cutting it too close to raise $2,000? What is your experience? I would really like to participate. I know I can run the marathon, that is no problem but raising the funds is intimidating to me. Especially the re-commitment aspect. :bigear:
