Karen sn
I don't know what they are called...... I know that there are sub groups of this board. Does anyone know if there is a secular group? How would I find it?
secular_mom
I think you are referring to the social groups? I hardly ever check them, but here ya go. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/group.php I find them by going to the user control panel, and 'social groups' is listed in the menu on the left. HTH. ETA: yes, there is a secular group as well as a non-christian group.
Jenny in Florida
And, in the past, I have always argued against creating such a thing. I have always enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to discuss important issues with people of diverse backgrounds and opinions. However, it does seem like the tide is turning lately, doesn't it? I feel less welcome here than I ever have in the past several years. It is getting tempting to walk away. I think there is a secular (or at least "non-Christian") social group, although I'm not active on it.
Jean in Newcastle
Go to Community - social groups - view all social groups - Join "Secular WTMers" and/or "Non-Christian Homeschoolers" There are many other social groups that have nothing to do with religion or philosophy too like the one on crock-pots! Rich with Kids
What? Crock-pot is not a religion??? More of a cult, really... And as with any cult, we have different sects. In our case, you align yourself with Campbell's soup. But other's from our group may poo-poo that. Well, I refuse to give in to KC (kitchen correctness). So, I'm going to continue using the term "crock pot," even though "slow cooker" is just as easy to say and type, because that's what my manual says and it is technically correct. Besides, we all know that anyone who uses anything other than a Rival doesn't really belong here, anyway.

BTW, Cream of Whatever is really demeaning and we should not use such a derogatory term for an item that despite it's small size have saved many a family dinner. I'd watch for cans of Cream of Whatever soup from the purists, though. Indeed. We do not consider that food, so would not consider the hurling of Cream of Whatever to be actual "food violence". Also, even among those who embrace it as food, there is the debate as to whether it is food in the can, or just "potential food".

I'd watch for cans of Cream of Whatever soup from the purists, though. Shoot...I thought maybe I could request a broader assortment of fresh veggies, which I could then chop up and stick in my slow cooker of choice (after assembling all the separate parts) and make into soup. The non-canned Cream of Whatever kind of soup, of course. But I'm not picky, and canned food does store longer than fresh produce.

Stacia
Yes, but I think the real question is: Do you teach your children that your crock pot faith is the only correct one? Or, do you teach them about other crock pot beliefs too? (Personally, I'm a believer in take-out, lol.) ;)
Avila
I don't know enough about other Crock Pot belief systems, because mine is the only one that matters. But you really should capitalize it because it is trademarked, and after all, that is the law.
LaxMom
My Crock Pot system of belief is Pure and True, and the ONLY valid way of slow cooking. I acknowledge that there are people who actually slow-cook in a Dutch oven, in their range, but they only do that because they have never read the Crock Pot Manual or been told about the Crock Pot Truth. We know that Take-Out-ers are going to F_t C_amp, whether they believe in F_t C_mp or not. Don't make me come to your house with literature. LaxMom
(Is F_t C_mp considered a swear word in this cult? Sorry, I don't mean to offend.) No, I just replaced the letters to indicate that it would be whispered in proper company. Like when my grandmother wished to share unpleasant news, e.g. "Do you remember Charlie L? {whisper} cancer" or "I just ran into Martha at the market... {whisper} Divorce" Also, there is a certain lip-pursing sequence associated, for the true believers. You're not a real Crock Potter, if you don't get that.
Christy B
:001_huh: I'm so conflicted. I grew up in the South, where we were raised to use copious amounts of Cream of Whatever soup. Recently, I have been doubting my dependence on Cream of Whatever soup and experimenting with stepping away from the Campbells. It's so confusing to be confronted with such diversity. I can't even talk about how disturbed I am by the debate on weiners.
