And, in the past, I have always argued against creating such a thing. I have always enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to discuss important issues with people of diverse backgrounds and opinions.

However, it does seem like the tide is turning lately, doesn't it? I feel less welcome here than I ever have in the past several years. It is getting tempting to walk away.

I think there is a secular (or at least "non-Christian") social group, although I'm not active on it.

This board, like any other group, has its ups and downs. Wait a month or two and things will be better again. It is disappointing though, isn't it?

More of a cult, really...

And as with any cult, we have different sects. In our case, you align yourself with Campbell's soup. But other's from our group may poo-poo that.

I only poo-poo the cream of poo-poo soups. To accept them is heresy. Didn't you READ the manual that comes WITH the crock-pot?? Sheesh!

And I am deeply offended by the use of "crock pot", as it excludes all non-Rival slow cookers.

Well, I refuse to give in to KC (kitchen correctness). So, I'm going to continue using the term "crock pot," even though "slow cooker" is just as easy to say and type, because that's what my manual says and it is technically correct.

Besides, we all know that anyone who uses anything other than a Rival doesn't really belong here, anyway.

You should also know that it is considered offensive to fail to capitalize Crock Pot as a sacred vessel of the Rival tribe.

What did I start!

Honey, don't be upset. Whatever works for your family is ok, and people just need to accept that. It wasn't you -- you did nothing wrong. You were just providing information.

Everyone has his/her own path to dinner. All are equally valid. In the end, everyone gets his/her family fed. It's all good.

"Cast your roast into the Rival, for after eight hours on low you will find it again."

I am a polycrockist -I have three crockpots and I just can't imagine how anyone can crock it without occasionally using cream of whatever soups. BTW, Cream of Whatever is really demeaning and we should not use such a derogatory term for an item that despite it's small size have saved many a family dinner.

Thank you for saying this. I was feeling quite alone. I lean to the monocrockist side( I do have a small Chefmate for the sole purpose of heating weiners. I hope that doesn't offend anyone.) I do respect your beliefs, though, and judge you not!

I'm sorry, wasn't it made clear earlier in the thread that only non-Cream of Whatever, Rival tribe followers need comment? The nerve of some people.

{I am finding this thread's absurdity sanity saving today, as well... has everyone else's kids developed a weird, infuriating, collective personality disorder, or am I just lucky?}

Heated weiners are the best weiners.

Don't you think weiner heating is a very narrow purpose?

(And, yes, I am laughing so hard at "weiner heating" that I can barely type... gee, what's going on at chez Rich with Kids?!?! Must be weiner-heating night!)

(also, I think "alone" is the best way to heat weiners, whatever method you choose.)

So if I said I believe that the base, removable crock, and lid are each separate items that function together to meet a common goal, rather than believing that they are each different expressions of a single object ...would you all throw tomatoes at me?

Our people don't believe in food violence. So you are safe from the hurling of tomatoes. I'd watch for cans of Cream of Whatever soup from the purists, though.

Indeed. We do not consider that food, so would not consider the hurling of Cream of Whatever to be actual "food violence".

Also, even among those who embrace it as food, there is the debate as to whether it is food in the can, or just "potential food".

Shoot...I thought maybe I could request a broader assortment of fresh veggies, which I could then chop up and stick in my slow cooker of choice (after assembling all the separate parts) and make into soup. The non-canned Cream of Whatever kind of soup, of course. But I'm not picky, and canned food does store longer than fresh produce.

I think we should be specifying which Cream soup here. I mean, I can't be hanging around people using Cream of Mushroom when I am a Cream of Chicken purist. And with the Crockpot, size matters, ladies.

Crock envy. Just what we need. Am I overcompensating with my 6 qt.? And what does my little weiner warmer say about me? Y'all are shaking some of my deepest core beliefs.

Guest Katia

Thanks ladies. Best thread I've read all week.

And I love my crock pot....West Bend here.....and I declare my allegiance to the Cream of Whatever soups. No specific one here, as I will use any and all necessary for the item being crocked.

My Crock Pot system of belief is Pure and True, and the ONLY valid way of slow cooking. I acknowledge that there are people who actually slow-cook in a Dutch oven, in their range, but they only do that because they have never read the Crock Pot Manual or been told about the Crock Pot Truth.

We know that Take-Out-ers are going to F_t C_amp, whether they believe in F_t C_mp or not. Don't make me come to your house with literature.

(Is F_t C_mp considered a swear word in this cult? Sorry, I don't mean to offend.)

No, I just replaced the letters to indicate that it would be whispered in proper company.

Like when my grandmother wished to share unpleasant news, e.g. "Do you remember Charlie L? {whisper} cancer" or "I just ran into Martha at the market... {whisper} Divorce" Also, there is a certain lip-pursing sequence associated, for the true believers.

You're not a real Crock Potter, if you don't get that.

:001_huh:

I'm so conflicted.

I grew up in the South, where we were raised to use copious amounts of Cream of Whatever soup. Recently, I have been doubting my dependence on Cream of Whatever soup and experimenting with stepping away from the Campbells. It's so confusing to be confronted with such diversity.

I can't even talk about how disturbed I am by the debate on weiners.
