plansrme
My class of '18 swimmer received an email tonight offering her a full ride at a school with a COA of well over $60K. It's not even a school that's been terribly high on her radar. The school contacted her a couple of months ago, set up a phone call and has been pretty quiet until now. And today, out of the blue, comes this email. She didn't even understand what they were talking about and handed me her phone to read it. She's visited a half-dozen schools over the last year but has never set foot on this campus (or in the state, for that matter). I'm really flabbergasted. Another school whose coach has been talking to her for a year also emailed her today and said, basically, "If another school is pressuring you for a commitment, let me know, and we'll accelerate our timeline for you." I don't know if the school that's made the offer is a great fit for her, but it's a good school. The offer does expire--they say they are making the same offer to several high-priority recruits, and when the full ride slots are gone, they're gone, is pretty much how they put it. And I have no idea whether she will accept it, but we may be making an emergency campus visit in the next week. I don't have any questions here, I don't suppose. I'm just really excited for her. We knew offers would be coming in the fall, but I expected 50% tops, and one school has told her with academic + swim money, she would have a full ride there (at a much less prestigious academic school). This child works so incredibly hard; she's a 5'2" swimmer, for heaven's sake. It's just really exciting to see coaches pursuing her. She's fought through some injuries and switched teams and practice groups because of a mean girl, and part of what makes the timing so sweet is that the mean girl (class of '17) has been having some really awful "luck" in the recruiting process. Okay, carry on. Thanks for letting me celebrate a win for one of the good guys!

snowbeltmom
 Good luck! Those exploding offers can also be a big help in getting offers from other schools on her list.

From someone who has spent what felt like a lifetime running back and forth from the pool and wearing white polos, navy pants, and shoes full of water on the weekends, a huge Way to Go!!!!!!! Wooohoooo!!!! National cuts and scholarship money for any of our board swimmers always moves me to tears - the work and dedication involved on everyone's parts is enormous. May she find the perfect fit.
plansrme
Thank you all for your nice words. We're going to visit this school as soon as her finals are over. There is a very good chance that she'll pass on this amazing offer, but maybe not!

Granny_Weatherwax
Congratulations. My first thought was "Wow, she'll be able to kick back and enjoy her senior year without all of that college application pressure and focus on her sport." That will be a blessing.
