Spy Car
Just the friendly yearly reminder to turn that turkey carcass into the best meal of the entire year! :D Here's an old thread (blast from the past) http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/140879-dont-forget-to-make-turkey-carsass-soup-out-of-your-turkey-carcass/ Bill
Rosie_0801
'Carcass' is such an attractive word. I wish I was coming to your place.
Guest
The smell of most bone broths grosses me out! They taste so good though. Lamb smells like wet dog to me as I cook it but I lubs the flavor too.
Joyofsixreboot
I made turkey& noodles tonight. That broth is better than the stupid turkey. Tomorrow, macaroni and cheese with ham cubes. Leftovers rule!
KatieJ
So does mine! In the next week or so , it will smell like split pea soup.
El...
We went to a friend's house, and they tossed the carcasses (both of them!) in the trash! It was tragic. The rest of the day was great, though. :)
Frances
The smell of turkey stew is wafting through our house right now. Our son requested an extra large batch in order to guarantee leftovers for him to take back to college.
Lucy the Valiant
Here, too. :) (And, apparently, at Michael Dukakis' house, too. :) )
HRAAB
My turkey carcass is waiting for me; I was too busy to get to it today. I'm interested to see how this stock turns out because my son-in-law smoked it, with a really yummy rub, for us this year.
mamiof5
Doing mine tomorrow!!
Miss Mousie
Yep, I made my turkey soup yesterday, and it was fabulous. :) Homemade noodles ... can't beat 'em.
ScoutTN
Made one batch of stock and froze it. DH does not like waking up to the smell of bone broth simmering in the crockpot, but has resigned himself to it. ;) He and kids are requesting a few not-turkey meals, so either lamb burgers or shepherd's pie tonight. Saving soup for next week when we are back in the busy routine and I have less time for meal prep.
bettyandbob
Made my soup yesterday. I froze four containers for four dinners, spread out over a few weeks. That is the best part--having so many dinners done.
sarahbobeara
I'm more excited about the bone broth than I was for hot turkey on Thanksgiving. Alas, I haven't put mine to simmer yet because I'm out of celery and I prefer to add it to my broth. Husband is out of town, pukey kid, and Black Friday means that Mr. Tom will have to wait to have his bones boiled. I also need to buy more mason jars to store the product. Also, I'm thinking about doing two crockpots (splitting the bones between the two) because that's a lot of carcass for one crockpot. We had a 15 lb bird so not huge but I'm trying to maximize the amount of broth I get.
Spy Car
Advance warning this year: Save that turkey carcass to make the best meal of the entire year. Happy Thanksgiving. Bill
madteaparty
Do I just use the turkey broth as I would chicken? In other words, are there*any* soups that don't go well with the turkey broth? I'm considering red lentil lemon soup, for the sake of discussion
umsami
Do I just use the turkey broth as I would chicken? In other words, are there*any* soups that don't go well with the turkey broth? I'm considering red lentil lemon soup, for the sake of discussion Yes, you can use Turkey broth in anything....but why a lot of people make turkey frame soup is because you get all the bits of Turkey off in the soup as well. I always use the BHG recipe. We just add in a bag of frozen mixed veggies, along with any leftover celery, onions, and carrots. http://www.bhg.com/recipe/poultry/turkey-frame-soup/
kiana
Do I just use the turkey broth as I would chicken? In other words, are there*any* soups that don't go well with the turkey broth? I'm considering red lentil lemon soup, for the sake of discussion I have not found any soups that don't do just as well with turkey broth. Some might exist, but I haven't found them yet.
