AMJ
Hello lovely ladies at ITT. I am a virgin to this forum but stopped by to tell you that I admire your tenacity (231 pages!). While I am visiting your planet, I thought I would mention to Texasmama that it might be worth a visit to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor. I have a friend whose night terrors were solved by visits to an ENT and an eventual removal of her tonsils. This maybe a fluke but worth mentioning. Meanwhile ((Jean and Texasmama)). Carry on. Welcome to the Ignore thread, fresh meat Minerva! I am thread Matriarch, but I was away when you stopped by. As a thread newbie please proceed to read the entire thread. Let us know when you are done and we will give you your quiz. I will give you 10,000 points if you get every answer right! I also know quote notifications are working again, so we will know if you try to pretend you didn't see this! You girls didn't scare her away before I got back, did you?
AMJ
There was just hardly anything in it. We're going to try an organic one in 2 weeks because they looked a lot fuller. I so agree with you. The problem is that we're not really staying afloat anymore. Our rent has gone up $75 a year for the past 4 years and we're one of the cheapest places. Groceries and utilities have also skyrocketed. We've paid off almost $20,000 in debt lowering our payments by over $350. That momentum is gone. We're not paying anything off and we're working a combined 70 hours a week. Something needs to change and we can't downsize. We started with the minimum when we moved. No cable, cheap car, cheap phone plan, we don't vacation or eat out. I will not lower our quality of food. We have a $400 a month grocery bill that covers food and household products. See if your DH can get transferred to an office in Texas. The cost of living here is quite good and jobs pay well, and there's no state income tax. There's also 2 growing seasons per year, if you like to garden.

Jean in Newcastle
Yes. The answer is always Texas. Um no. Remember - spiders the size of dinner plates and other weird things like poisonous caterpillars. Speaking of spiders, dd said that last night one of our "dog food spiders" (we have a couple of large wolf spiders - still smaller than Texas spiders btw- that steal and eat the dog food) anyway, one of "them" was climbing up her leg. :svengo: She said she screamed but she obviously did not scream loud enough because I never heard her. And she had some foolish notion that getting a flame thrower might have burned down the house and that would have been BAD. Silly girl.

Renai
So, we are finally back home. We left at about 10:30, and back at 3:15 or so. That was not the plan. We went to older dd's school to register her. They do not want to put her in chemistry because then she would be ahead of her cohort. But, it would be okay to put her behind the cohort by placing her in integrated science.(?) What happened is, all 9th graders come in and do integrated science, then biology in 10th. Well, we had started out homeschooling her last year and was taking biology through VHSG (making A's and B's). They accepted the grades (probably because they weren't mommy created) and allowed her to continue biology, saying she could pick up integrated science this year. Now that we're at this year, she wants to continue forward so she can get more advanced science later. They were saying how chemistry is math-intensive and integrated would set her up really well for chemistry the following year AND she'll be with her cohort. I could tell dd was pissed. One teacher thought she was really convincing and moving forward like we had agreed. I asked dd what she thought and she said she didn't care. In the very obvious way that means she does care. This is the second issue they are trying to convince us on. They want her to take a Spanish class. A Spanish-for-people-who-speak-English-and-want-t0-learn-Spanish. This same teacher was trying to tell me that taking the Spanish course would be like an English person taking English class. I had to correct her and say "no, that would be like an English-speaking person taking an ESL class. To learn English. It's kind of offensive." She just. didn't. get. it. She acted all offended when speaking to the registrar saying, "well, they don't think our Spanish class will be good enough..." I've been dealing with this issue since last year. Dd said, "Mom, I'll just clep it." I let them know I was looking for an online foreign language course she could take, and the registrar mentioned a state online program and they offer French. Anyway, we walked out of the school and dd says, "Mom. just homeschool me. Being here reminded me how much I hate it. But, she wants a job. I think she just concentrate on her schoolwork. Then, I went to the school where I am to work. It was to pick up a PO to do some shopping for the classroom. I was there for 1.5 HOURS. The PO wasn't done, the principal was on the phone with district, blah, blah, blah. I finally told her I had to go home and feed my kids. She'll call me when it's ready. So, now I'm home. wintermom
Hey, my dc can really work!!! They cleaned out the garage and basement yesterday, and today did the weeding, cleaning out the eavestroffs, mowing the lawn, vacuuming the mainfloor, and biking to the store to buy ice cream! :hurray: I LOVE this phase of their lives, and hope it lasts for a good long while. A fellow came by our house in the midst of all this helpful activity and suggested my dc could do a scouting summer camp. Now why would I do that when I have plenty of important stuff for them to do at home? ;)
Jean in Newcastle
So. . . . I have a call in to one of my specialists because my throat which has been swollen and making it difficult to eat for the last couple of weeks is getting worse. The swelling is starting to shut off my ears. This is not ER territory, by the way. I know from experience exactly where ER territory is and it is much much worse. But sigh. I'm already scheduled for a barium swallow test next Monday. I was hoping to hold out until then. In the meantime I'm taking two new meds my primary gave me (both on a hunch of what might be causing this) and neither are doing a thing. Jean in Newcastle
((hugs)) Jean. I know you say it isn't ER level, but the line seems pretty darn fine between breathing and not. Do not wait too long. I've had swelling (or been on medication to prevent swelling) since January. Unfortunately I'm getting very good at gauging where I am in the swollen throat process. I can still swallow my spit (ultimate test). As Tex would say, "Ain't nobody got time for this". Doesn't my throat know that I'm teaching at camp in less than two weeks?
texasmama
You do not have time for this, Jean. Not at all. Nothing will deter us from camp, though, so we have to get this under control. Renai, I think your dd is going to homeschool. But it is a good process to walk this out and let her see and remember. You are a very patient person. AMJ
I offended someone once by referring to my dh as "the brown dude". I said, "You realize that he knows his skin color is brown, don't you?" They make it sound like it is bad to be brown, which seems to be the whole point they are supposedly trying to avoid. I once commented to a work friend of mine that it looked like she had gotten some sun while on vacation in AZ. She's a lighter-skinned black gal, and I could see the line left by her sunglasses. She was in AZ visiting her son and watching him play in the minor leagues, so she got a LOT of sun. Another coworker (this was just before a meeting started) gasped and exclaimed quite loudly, "Gawd, I can't believe you said that! Don't you have any manners?" What, only pale blue Scottish people can get a tan? My friend just rolled her eyes and smiled at me. AMJ
I'm convinced that some of what my kids insist I agreed to was just thought up by them and presented to me as a done deal. ;) I have a niece who does this. She angled to get me to invite her to ride with us when the entire family went on a trip together. I told her I had already told her Mom that her Mom decides who will ride with us. She went home and told her parents that I had specifically invited her, just her, and most specifically NOT dear cousin, who lives with them. I found this out when I talked to SIL about who would ride with us and she acted surprised I was asking -- I promptly debunked that, and said we'd be happy to take dear cousin if SIL wants, because dear cousin behaves quite well when it is just her and our two girls. This niece did indeed ride with us (SIL caved, despite the lying), but we made her work, too. She's going to get a rough awakening when she gets to college and finds out that others won't cave in and let her have her way like her parents do.
AMJ
Yes, we scared her off. (hangs head in shame) She was a post-and-run Well then, I guess she didn't fit. That's too bad. I was going to have a lot of fun teasing my mythology-loving eldest that I was now hanging out with Minerva. Maybe she's just busy and will come back. If she does give her some virtual chocolate before informing her of the quiz.
