I read this too fast and thought that you said your ex-husband was a con.

He kind of is though he works hard to stay within the letter of the law. I just never know when he's going to do something rash.

I remember my childhood phone number from before they changed area codes sometime in the early-mid 90s. But, it was really easy... it was in the form abcba-ccbbb. We got quite a number of people dialing the wrong number by pressing one of those numbers too many times.

That's an idea. Slache could move somewhere within driving distance but where the traffic or terrain makes the drive a PITA for MIL.

SHE TOTALLY GETS ME!

I impaled myself on a fork.

The turtles ran too fast for little old me. I had to paint generic girl instead.

I'm working on a portrait of my niece. Her skin is almost impossible to match--but once I came up with a tone I had to try it out. Generic girl is a quick sketch treated with the colors I want to use. It came out pretty good. So I will mix the tray up tomorrow with plenty of paint to see me through the practice pieces.

But it would have been fun to paint the turtles, too. :D

Yes, still married and always will be. Another reason to live driving distance. "If something happens" could be as simple as MIL breaking her ankle so the kids and I have to stay there for 3 weeks to tend to FIL. We're not so much worried about being able to drive to their funerals as we are that they could both live another 30 years and no one else will take care of them. They raised 5 kids but none of them came to help when FIL came home. It was a huge mess. He needed 24/7 care for around 6 months but insurance wouldn't  cover it. At one point he fell out of bed and hit life alert but his door was locked so they didn't come in to help. They were like "We rand the bell, but no one answered." He needs help with basic life now so if *anything* happens to MIL, even a 24 hour hospital stay he'll need someone and no one will come. They're a wonderful family.

So, 4-6 hours from Cincinnati then?

I’m back. I was gone all day. I met IRL BFF at this chic little place in the Big City called Butterfish California Poke (I think that is the wildest name)and had lunch. They have these bowls that... the easiest I can describe them is deconstructed sushi. But they have other stuff you can put in them besides fish and seaweed. It was so good. And healthy. Lots of veggies and light, but tasty Asian sauces. Anyhow, we sat and talked for 4 1/2 hours. Good talk.

You got something against cons? I was raised by one.  :toetap05:

(kidding)

Hmm....

Parts of Kentucky and Tennessee definitely would be withing range.  Even Buffalo, NY is about 6 hours away by car from Cincinnati.

I had a poke bowl (pronounced "po-kay", according to the label, which reminded me of Par-kay) for lunch.  It was adequate -- shelf-stable concoction with hot rice (which seemed so wrong somehow).  I'd keep from starving if that were all there was to eat, but I don't think I'll buy it again.  I much prefer the fresh stuff.

And hooray for good visit with friend!

Well, just shows what a hick I really am. I had no idea that’s how you pronounced it and that it was a “thingâ€. It sure was good, though. And the restaurant was very popular.

4-1/2 hours from my house and she'd have to drive through Louisville (and Nashville, which is always a nightmare).

Looks like Nashville has some loops, so maybe there are some possibilities of getting around some of the mess.  4.5 hours is good for dashing up there when needed, since it would likely be for overnight at least anyway, but should be pretty prohibitive of MIL just popping round every Sunday.

So, Lynn lives in KY, right?  What part of the state, Lynn?

The weirdest thing about the wedding was that I didn't really know the bride or groom.

The bride is dd15's friend from church youth group.  They really only interacted there, so I don't know her very well.

In the past, I have brought my kids along for the ride when one of my friends got married.  Today I was along for the ride when my dd's friend got married.

That far and she'd come for the week all of the time.  :svengo: We're thinking like 60-90 minutes so she won't randomly come by but when she plans a visit we can send her home that day.

So we can move in with you?

We were robbed in Nashville.

Nice.

I have never been to Tennessee.  Hey, Susan!  When can I come visit?  :)

Probably before we move in. It will be crowded.

If it could have hit a major artery or vein or w/e, do not remove it, and call 911.

I once read about a woman who fell on a knitting needle. It impaled her heart. They managed to safely remove it at the hospital.

Which is why I stick to crochet. Although, those tiny metal crochet hooks are pretty dangerous too. Ask Dancer's leg...

Painting people is hard. They won't hold still.

Paint dead people. Those should hold still...  :leaving:

I got married at 20. Today was actually our 13th anniversary. Well, before it turned midnight, it was. And DW had to work all.day. I'm so done with this project. The deadline was yesterday (as in, Friday), but her boss felpfully got it moved to tomorrow (as in, Sunday evening).  :banghead:

I think poke bowls are really specific though. I've had all kinds of Asian foods my whole life, living on the West Coast, and I had never heard of a poke bowl. I looked it up and it is Hawaiian. I had it for the first time last year and that was with other people, also from Seattle, also having it from the first time.

I also pronounce it "pokey" as in, the hokey pokey. I guess I will have to learn the word in case I ever go to Hawaii.

Also, I have never been to Hawaii because I can't imagine paying that much to still be in the same country.

Also, I pronounce La Croix "La Kwah" because I thought that was how it was pronounced but apparently  it is pronounced La Kroy.

I knew that it was Hawaiian. I pronounce it pokey and so do my Hawaiian friends (who live in Seattle).

I should note, however, being from the Pacific Northwest, that our "urban" population is much maligned by people from "real" cities like New York and LA for our provincialism, so maybe we are just hicks all living really close together.

Jean, I am glad I'm getting the pronunciation at least from some real Hawaiian source even if they are island expats. For some reason, I thought it was Korean, maybe because the people I knew who loved it were all Korean.

I love ahi poke bowls though. I need to learn to make them or it will be the end of my "no eating out" rules.

I pronounce all the foreign place names etc in America wrong*, because I use the phonics of the language they originated from but it turns out to be Americanized, OR, alternatively, when I decide to do my best guess at how it's Americanized, it turns out that that specific one does still go by the phonics of the language it came from.

*Huge exaggeration. Btw, I did teach DW, who is from Corpus, the Spanish word for 'yellow'. Me: like that place in Texas. Her: huh? Me: Amarillo. Her: that means yellow?!? (btw, I did know that that's pronounced differently in American and in Spanish, but it was just funny that it had never registered with her that there was a major city in Texas named Yellow. She had Spanish in elementary school because she lived in Corpus, and doesn't really remember any Spanish).
