I had a fantastic panic attack in the "open" MRI (which still compels you to lie absolutely still on your back on a hard slab with a "man in the iron mask" face cage locked directly over your face.

I can deal with screwing the Chewie mask to my head when I'm able to walk around in it, but this is not the same thing.

Apparently I moved some but they said the images were OK.

When I came out they were all smiles and said "OK you're all done here you can go now" but I was busy flipping the !@#%#!@ out and trying to orient myself to time and place let alone find the exit and walk back to the waiting room.

The EEG went off uneventfully. As usual I'm not triggered by flashing lights and as usual I hate laying on my broken back. It took me a bit to shampoo all the glue out of my hair and now I have these highly selective bald spots where electrodes were.

Seeing a neuro next Wednesday, which is probably the first I'll hear of any results. :-/

That's how this thread got started. We did not "Ignore This Thread".

I ignored this thread for a while... until I had a terrible migraine.  I wonder what that means?...

Thank you for the reminder.

I agree that everyone should have to watch it. :hat: No one should be able to read further in the thread until they watch it.  It's only about two minutes, and it is kid friendly.

I watched it before you posted the link.   :tongue_smilie:

I've had an MRI before, but never a mask.  I think I fell asleep.

Hope you get good results at the neuro.  Sorry that you have to wait 8 days!?!?

On my phone because I'm taking a necessary journey (picking up ds) on a treacherous road, lol. I did watch. My internet was slow, but it was still hilarious.

Thanks for the high praise, but I think Heather is our mom (but she keeps leaving us home alone a lot!)

(((Mark))). So glad you survived!

I had several as a kid. Never with a mask.

I went on a bear hunt after yours and Junie's comments but every source I found that any time you're getting a brain MRI, you get the mask. For a cervical (neck) or skull MRI, shoulders, torso, leg, whatever... no mask. The mask is specifically for brain imaging. :-/

I own both, if that helps. I hate windows8 with a passion and even ubuntu can be a pain in the butt. I puffy heart love my mac.

Do you have an iPhone?  I sent the pic to myself, and it asks me small, medium, or large, and I pick small.  Then I can post it.

Mine wasn't open. Maybe that's the difference. I laid on a table that went into the MRI. They strapped me down. It was comforting.

I spend the morning taking the old cat to the specialist for her eye problem. I say eye, because it's the only one she's got now. She needs corneal surgery. Scheduled for early January. Quite sure I'll be a wreck. I plan to go hide out at the library and try not to worry too much.

The kitten is still having GI stuff, but she feels great today. Rocketing around, eating, playing and in a good mood. Right now I'm trying to find out if there is a dietary cause for her inflammation while treating any possible bacterial causes. She's too small for endoscopy at present.

Other than that and a headache, I'm okay.

I was off googleing. Do you mean the cage over your face? I had that. I just didn't have anything against my skin aside from the strap on my forehead.

...

Dude yes the cage less than an eighth of an inch from your face. I'd call that a mask. ;-)

Also Slache finds being strapped down "comforting".

Hmmmmm.... :-P

I could slap you for that.

It's not that close. You're such a boy. There's also an actual mask that I didn't have. It molds to your face. It looks uncomfortable.

You have a small face. It's damn close. Doubly so if you have claustrophobia. :P

I was delirious when they finally took me out of that thing.

I've had both, and I'm sure it was a MRI.

I have seen three different types of MRI head gear/positioning thingies.

There's the face mask, which is mesh. It's the same as my dd had during her brain rad. It snaps into the table.

Then there's the catcher's mitt helmet style.

Finally there's the stabilization headrest with straps. This isn't exactly it, but what I had at one hospital was like this. http://www.jamesdysonaward.org/projects/mri-stabilisation-headrest/

There's even the movie goggles setup. My dd's ped neuro-onc had this setup (not at the hospital linked) : http://www.thelondoner.ca/2014/05/16/movie-goggles-help-mri-patients-at-childrens

😂 Are you an introvert? You could be a nonjudgmental introvert.

I'm a nonjudgemental introvert unless the person is a moron. Then I am plenty judgey, but I keep it on the inside of my brain. I wonder if they could see it with a brain MRI.

Mark, I am not claustrophobic, but I think an MRI is enough to make anyone feel like they are going to lose it.

We have nonstop rain, flood advisories, and a looming wind advisory for 60 mph gusts. And DH has informed me that we are to meet friends for dinner. Which means a 30 minute drive into town.

ON

TREACHEROUS

ROADS.

Don't take risks! Don't swim in the sea!

I'm doomed. Doomed, I say.

Well, we're several hundred miles from the ocean, so no worries there, at least!

I'm glad to see Mark back and is as argumentative as ever.  ;)  Mark, I'm sorry it was a bad experience.  I believe your experience had a mask but dd's brain MRI did not have a mask.  I just double checked with her.  She did have a strap on her forehead but otherwise "they trusted me not to move".  She said as soon as she went in there though she felt all these itches that she was dying to scratch!
