MarkW Posted December 8, 2015 Share Posted December 8, 2015 I had a fantastic panic attack in the "open" MRI (which still compels you to lie absolutely still on your back on a hard slab with a "man in the iron mask" face cage locked directly over your face. I can deal with screwing the Chewie mask to my head when I'm able to walk around in it, but this is not the same thing. Apparently I moved some but they said the images were OK. When I came out they were all smiles and said "OK you're all done here you can go now" but I was busy flipping the !@#%#!@ out and trying to orient myself to time and place let alone find the exit and walk back to the waiting room. The EEG went off uneventfully. As usual I'm not triggered by flashing lights and as usual I hate laying on my broken back. It took me a bit to shampoo all the glue out of my hair and now I have these highly selective bald spots where electrodes were. I went on a bear hunt after yours and Junie's comments but every source I found that any time you're getting a brain MRI, you get the mask. Critterfixer Posted December 8, 2015 Share Posted December 8, 2015 I spend the morning taking the old cat to the specialist for her eye problem. I say eye, because it's the only one she's got now. She needs corneal surgery. Scheduled for early January. Quite sure I'll be a wreck. I plan to go hide out at the library and try not to worry too much. The kitten is still having GI stuff, but she feels great today. Rocketing around, eating, playing and in a good mood. Right now I'm trying to find out if there is a dietary cause for her inflammation while treating any possible bacterial causes. She's too small for endoscopy at present. There's the face mask, which is mesh. It's the same as my dd had during her brain rad. It snaps into the table. Then there's the catcher's mitt helmet style. Finally there's the stabilization headrest with straps. This isn't exactly it, but what I had at one hospital was like this. http://www.jamesdysonaward.org/projects/mri-stabilisation-headrest/ There's even the movie goggles setup. Then I am plenty judgey, but I keep it on the inside of my brain. I wonder if they could see it with a brain MRI. I believe your experience had a mask but dd's brain MRI did not have a mask. I just double checked with her. She did have a strap on her forehead but otherwise "they trusted me not to move". She said as soon as she went in there though she felt all these itches that she was dying to scratch!
