Farrar
My kids' Shakespeare group is starting Much Ado About Nothing and I was thinking of trying to show them something that captures that rhythm of two people poking fun at each other that Beatrice and Benedick have but in a modern context. I thought, surely there's something like that, but everything I thought of was too grown up or too old fashioned. Any thoughts?
antsam
Abbott and costello? Laurel and hardy? Old fashioned, but classics! Jodie
Word Nerd
Maybe Isobel and Violet in Downton Abbey? A poetry slam?
TXBeth
Maybe Rory and Paris in Gilmore Girls before they become friends
Farrar
Good ideas, all. Were there any Looney Tunes characters with that dynamic? I thought of a lot of Animaniacs bits where Yakko does the insult thing, but I couldn't find a good clip. Off to look and see if I can find a good Abbott and Costello bit. Or that Horrible Histories! Diane in CO
I have always enjoyed His Girl Friday (?) I think that is the name of it with Cary Grant. Lots quick verbal sparring with Rosalind Russel. An older movie for sure but lots of fun.
Farrar
I know "Horrible Histories" has a scene just like that starting Shakespeare. Oh bollocks. It's in series 4, which is not streaming here and no one seems to have put it on Youtube.
Farrar
Would a epic battle rap work? Hehe. I just watched the Shakespeare vs. Dr. Seuss one while I was in the vast black hole of Youtube.

You might luck out trying to look for something between Bugs and Daffy, they're the two characters that always interacted in the cartoon. Cinder
Would a epic battle rap work? My favorite is Rhett & Link's Epic Rap Battle of Manliness
rebbyribs
Maybe the Muppets Statler and Waldorf, although the kind of go back and forth between poking fun at each other and at the show.

J-rap
There is some great bantering between Buddy and Sally in the old Dick Van Dyke show...
Jean in Newcastle
On the Smothers brothers, some might be offended by the link I gave. But they have tons of sketches.
Murphy101
The honeymooners? Oldie but goodie.
zoobie
Hepburn & Tracy or Cary Grant but that's not very modern. Moonlighting? Not very modern either. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in the Proposal. Not kid friendly but perhaps entertaining for you? There's a teen retelling of Taming of the Shrew called 10 Things I Hate About You. It's not bad. Has some older teen themes (sex), but parts would be fine.
Farrar
So many good ideas! It's tough because a lot of them are really old fashioned. I kept thinking about Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in It Happened One Night, for example, as having a similar push and pull with lots of insults. But I'm not sure if that would seem any more relatable than Shakespeare!

gardenmom5
if you're talking witty repartee - I've enjoyed Katharine Hepburn and cary grant in the philadephia story. (jimmy stewart gets some in too.) also - kiss me kate. which is a musical contemporary (50's) taming of the shrew.
Jean in Newcastle
The comedy detective show Psych has some of that kind of repartee. NCIS - Tony does a lot of that with. . . pretty much everyone.
Erica in OR
Some of the U.S. "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" games are good that way. I'm thinking of some of the "Questions Only" ones that they've done. They sometimes get a little racy. Erica in OR
Deee
David Tennant and Catherine Tate did a fabulous scene for one of the Comic Relief using one of Shakespeare's sonnets (the fabulously insulting one I can't remember the first line of....). The banter is brilliant! Its on YouTube
