Catwoman
I just saw it on the news. That is absolutely horrible. :(
Kerileanne99
Horrifying. I simply do.not.get.it. AFTER serving a term in prison for accidentally killing his 8-yr-old with an unlicensed weapon? After a felony drug charge? Those poor children... umsami
It seems to me that these familicides are becoming more and more common. It's one of those things I won't ever understand. I read this yesterday….and although it doesn't apply (grandfather vs. husband), still a good read. http://americanmotherspoliticalparty.org/ampp-article-library-family-court-custody-abuse-dv/8-news-action-alerts-press-release/62-its-not-angst-over-custody-fathers-kill-their-children-to-punish-their-ex-partners

So horribly tragic.
Ravin
I don't think it happens more. I think it's publicized more when it happens.
PrincessMommy
I don't think it happens more. I think it's publicized more when it happens. I disagree. There may be some uptick in awareness due to publicity, but I think these sensational homicides would have made headlines 25 or 30 years ago. Ravin
People forget sensational homicides quicker than you might think. I went googling and it's not a murder of family members, but I found this... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/amelia-dyer-the-woman-who-murdered-300-babies-8507570.html . then I found this: An archival exploration of homicide--suicide and mass murder in the context of 19th-century American parricides. and this one: Filicide-suicide in Chicago, 1870-1930. OMGosh, Ravin! That picture of Amelia Dyer in the first link is seriously creepy. Yeesh.

There are far more people than 50 years ago and a lot more divorces. I think we here the news more now too, there is just no avoiding the constant barrage of news. Caroline
I don't think it happens more. I think it's publicized more when it happens. I agree, Ravin. I remember it happening in my hometown while I was growing up. The family lived near me, but their kids went to private school, so I didn't know them. It did make the headlines, definitely of the Baltimore Sun and perhaps the Metro section of the Washington Post. I am sure it was on the local news, briefly. This would have been in the late 70's or early 80's. At first it was thought to be a home invasion, but upon further investigation, it was discovered that the father killed the entire family and then committed suicide. But really, it was a brief mention, and then it went away. I hadn't thought about it for a long time until I saw this thread.
