It is quite common for me to use: a receipt, a checkbook or deposit slip, a piece of junk mail, a pencil, a pen, a napkin, another book, a photo, a business card, a paper clip. More rarely, but known to have happened: a cupcake wrapper, a cough drop, a pantyliner (unused), a sandwich bag, a leaf, a calculator, a hair elastic. The strange thing about bookmarkers is, like pens and scissors, no matter how many I buy, there still isn't one handy when needed. More to love about Kindles and iPads.
