Elfknitter.#
http://security.blogs.cnn.com/2013/12/03/eight-tiny-reindeer-and-two-fighter-jets/ We enjoy tracking Santa via the NORAD site on Christmas Eve, so this caught my eye. Do you think this is "... taking a beloved children’s tradition and inserting violence and militarism into it†as Mr. Josh Golin, associate director of the Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood states? Mommy22alyns
I just cannot find it in myself to get worked up about this at all.
Jean in Newcastle
 I think he needs to untwist his panties (ok. . . briefs or boxers) and worry about more important things.
Dandelion
It's the North American Aerospace Defense Command. It's what NORAD does. This is no more "inserting violence and militarism" than the military escort the President receives when he goes somewhere. A military escort for Santa just communicates that "Santa is a very important person who needs to get to where he's going safely". Something that kids around the world who believe in Santa would wholeheartedly agree with. :p I think this guy is creating a problem where there is none. No, I think this is NORAD folks making it more NORADy. No, Santa doesn't need a military escort...any more than he needs to be tracked by radar. It is just cute and fun. No one is pointing a gun (or directing live missiles) at any parent's head to force them to visit the site with their oh, so impressionable kids. ThatHomeschoolDad
If Santa has a load of AR-15s from Walmart, then yes, he needs an escort.
bettyandbob
There are many things on the news for me to be upset about. Like why did this news agency spend resources to report on this rather than something important.
Jean in Newcastle
bracing myself for my husband's reaction to this..... Will he be pro or anti Mr. Josh Golin?
Alte Veste Academy
Could you just not show him? No need to get him all worked up. LOL
Jean in Newcastle
He will make Mr. Josh Golin seem way too cool with it. It's ok. . . Santa really isn't getting a military escort. Google has their own Santa tracker with no NORAD involvement at all.
jeninok
We have listened to this on christmas eve for several years, Tyler is 12 now, but still asked about it the other day. It is just something fun, and there was never anything about it that felt like militarization of santa.

It's military people being funny. Let then be funny with a jet. If you don't like it - don't use.
KungFuPanda
Isn't this inserting Santa into a military program, and not the other way around?
Chris in VA
There are many things on the news for me to be upset about. Like why did this news agency spend resources to report on this rather than something important. LIKE x a billion. It's appalling to me how under-reported news from the world is in this country--I mean on network news, not news channels. (I'm in a minority in that we don't have cable, just network TV, so I am only commenting on that kind of news.)
Farrar
I'm usually pretty sensitive to things like this, but even I think this is dumb to get worked up over.
