scrapbookbuzz
TODAY is the takeoff! For those that don't know, NaNoWriMo stands for : National Novel Writers Month. It's an annual event. You don't have to be an author to participate, just someone who wants to get some writing done. Are you and/or your kids participating? My 15yo dd and I are. We've even set up a daily schedule. And I have laid in a supply of coffee and chocolate for sustenance, too! What are you working on? My goal is to finally get the rough draft of my novel DONE. My daughter wants to write a story about superheroes she made up! :) Talk to me! :bigear:
scrapbookbuzz
I want to encourage any and all of you who have a story, poem, etc, bouncing around in your head to use NaNoWriMo to get it OUT where others can enjoy it, too! There will never be the RIGHT time, or perfect time, especially while homeschooling! Just MAKE time. Let NaNoWriMo encourage you in this. Whether you're homeschooling and pursuing a degree (as I and a few others are), raising many littles (as so many are), are working full time, etc, you can set aside SOME time to dedicate to your passion of writing. Write on!
elegantlion
I'm about 2k into my story this morning. Ds isn't writing with me and he's not even up yet. Now back to writing before I lose the vibe.
Word Nerd
DD is out of school today and is working on her Young Writers Program project now. I want to take the opportunity to start writing every day even if I don't finish.
mycalling
Thanks for the reminder! I wanted to do this with the kids, maybe participate myself. Our year has been so crazy thus far, I totally forgot. I've got to get going on introducing this today.
scrapbookbuzz
I'm about to do some Bible study before my set time for working on the NaNoWriMo project. I'll check in with you all later! Write on!
Georgiana Daniels
I have my scene cards all laid out, and we're adjusting the school schedule so I have all afternoon to write every day. Looking forward to it!
happi duck
My two kids and I are writing for the second time...we all won last year! So excited to participate again! I like scrapbookbuzz's sign-off...hope it's okay to hijack it... Write on!
Eagle
Ds is participating for his second year. He is very excited! I told him I would get him the Basher Creative Writing book if he meets his goal. He's been dictating stories to me all morning!
LLMom
I have never made it, but I am trying to write an e-book about putting your kids in school after homeschooling. I think that is doable.
scrapbookbuzz
I'm back! Only wrote a little over 700 words this morning. Decided to start with the ending and got stuck! LOL Obviously, I need to do some research to figure out my ending. It's not historical fiction, really, but there is topography knowledge I need and don't have! Google Earth, here I come! Hen
I'm in this year! umm, procrastinating, I should go start writing now...for sure will write tonight when dh takes kids to costco for dinner :D
6packofun
2 of my dds are participating this year (14yo and 16yo), and I'm going to write as well. I'm trying to get some non-fiction writing done, though, so it's technically not NaNOwriMo for me. LOL
fractalgal
This will be my daughter's first year participating. She's excited! She's already met her word count goal for the day. I hope the enthusiasm lasts. ;)
Delirium
We are both participating but why did November have to come up so fast?! I'm not ready!
Robin M
I'm in. Being a nano rebel and working on a story started a couple years back - totally rewriting it from a different character point of view. Minor character became major and eliminating or combining some characters. I've been working on changes and outline for scenes. I started writing today and just did a total free for all, what ever came to mind and it really had nothing at all to do with the story. There may be a connection somewhere in there, but at this point, I don't see it. I may end up doing a bunch of short stories. Who knows. We'll see where my muse takes me this time. Anyhow calling it Silver Shadow Whisper or maybe it should be Whispering Silver Shadows. I'm going to go where my muse takes me. James is working on another fan fiction story. AMJ
I'm another NaNoRebel, writing stuff that isn't a novel (at least, it isn't this year). Who knows, maybe some year in the future I can turn it into one. Today's word count: 4120! A good start, I guess!

scrapbookbuzz
I'm exhausted. For today the writing is done. I'll have to see where I can fit it in tomorrow. BUSY weekend! Write on, everyone!
elegantlion
First day count 5968. My goal is to finish early. Don't get too jealous, it's mostly crap at this point. Some of it's loading in detail so I can edit and weave it in later. Tomorrow I have to figure out how to get from A to B, because A wasn't supposed to show up until later and magically appeared in the story today. It fits better, plot wise though. Uff Da!
I slept in until 7:30. Funny how I can sleep without kids. Good luck today everyone. I love being at a writers retreat/nano kickoff. It is awesome! Now to stop chatting and start working.....
Mergath
I'm up to 3746 words today, and my brain is fried, lol. Luckily, I haven't hit any major walls yet, but I'm sure that won't last. I look at what I've gotten written so far and want to cry when I think about how much of it will probably get scrapped during editing. Oh well. I have to keep telling myself that if I can just get the framework down during this month, then I can take my time editing and turn it into something readable. I'm Mergath over at the NaNoWriMo site too, btw. I don't have any writing buddies yet. :(
Mergath
I added you as a writing buddy Mergath :). Yay! Thank you! :D ETA: Do I have to add you back, or does it do it automatically? It lists you in the "Buddy Of" section, but my actual buddy list is empty. ETA2: Okay, I think I've got it. I used all my brain cells writing this morning, lol. jenn-
I got a little beyond the daily word count for the day. It is taking way longer then normal to get my word counts in. I hope this story line does not stall out on me.

happi duck
I am way behind par...that's why my only writing buddies are my kids! If y'all could see my word count it would be mortifying not motivating! Last year my writing 'muscle' got stronger as the month went on and I could catch up to par...I'm hoping for the same this year.
scrapbookbuzz
1114 words down today! And that was in just over an hour, even with talking things through with my kids! Now off to do other things!
Uff Da!
I just wrote exactly 1700 words. What are the odds of that? I'm aiming for writing 500 when I wake up, 500 at lunch and 500 before bed. It's kind of working. P.S. If you ever get the opportunity to go on a writers retreat, go. It is worth it. I felt young again. No laundry, no responsibilities except what I wanted to do and everyone helped load the dishwasher. And not one person yelled at me "Wipe my butt!" from the bathroom. :hurray:

Uff Da!
It's just a bunch of writers camping out somewhere for a weekend with the goal that everyone writes. We chose a cabin/resort thing in the woods. Some go to casinos. I'm sure some just get a couple rooms at a hotel or something. My group is nice in that everyone does their own thing and if people happen to want to watch a movie or go on a walk at the same time, then they do. There isn't pressure for everyone to do the same thing at the same time.
scrapbookbuzz
I've done a "writers retreat" with my friend at her house, out of state. 8) Always fun!
jenn-
How's it going for everyone? After writing nothing while on vacation and ditching the first story line (don't worry, still counting those words), I am playing catch up. Right now I have to write a little less than 2K a day to get there by the end of the month, but I hope to have another big push later today and get back to where I am supposed to be in the next couple of days. Uff Da!
I've been battling the common cold for weeks and just want to watch movies and eat Reese's at this point. On the upside, I had a major breakthrough in understanding my characters and managed to get a solid outline for one of the two story lines. I think that breakthrough took some mental/creative energy out of me and now I'm refueling- on peanut butter cups. I hope everyone's doing well and having fun. Edited out the odd part about very enthusiastic supporters.
jenn-
Good idea: don't get discouraged by my pathetic word count and give up Bad idea: try catching up in one day. My poor left wrist hates this month with a passion. I am pushing it if I do 2k a day. I put in 3500 today and I am going to bed in pain. Bad me. I knew it would happen. elegantlion
I'm almost at 30,000 and I haven't written today. My goal is to finish next weekend. The story is flowing well, except I created a group of characters on the fly and had to go back and see what characteristics I gave to who. Did she have a job or was she the one going to school? So, my characters said, "I don't know" a lot yesterday, which is representative of the what they were looking up at me, their creator, and going "What the h***, woman, figure out where we're supposed to go now." :coolgleamA: I figured it out. I can't type regular words anymore. Between this and school and my school, I'm literally dropping at the end of the day. Exhaustion makes the insomnia go away, so that's good. I always have a second document up to add characters as I go. Depending on how important the characters are they either have a tiny description (such as xyz student in abc class) or a more detailed description for MC friends I actually have to keep up with. Tiramisu
I had a fairly successful hour this morning after all. The best thing about it is that littlest dd plopped herself next to me and wrote a letter to her friend, so the time was well spent all around. :)

jenn-
I made it to 20,000 despite all the interruptions, including stopping to give haircuts. I am not even sure what I am supposed to be at right now. I had counted on the extra day with Dh home on having another high production day. That didn't happen. Instead I spent 4 hours between 3 medical facilities and a pharmacy none of which was scheduled or needed when I went to bed last night. Overnight ds2 went from acting healthy as a horse to complaining of ear pain so I took him in. Severely infected right ear. You could see the infection without the otoscope. Then the knee dh complained of hurting a bit was all swollen and nasty. We don't have a primary dr so we hunted for someone accepting new patients and could see him quickly. We should have shaved an hour and a half off of our time if we had just gone to urgent care to begin with. Apparently the office we picked doesn't have an in house X-ray even though we asked if she could do her own reads and they said yes. Now we have to wait for results after having to take the X-ray order to the urgent care place to be taken. Urgent care won't read the X-rays for other docs but I know they read their own patients as dd has had X-rays done there. At least the pharmacy was in and out ( granted that's because we are there often enough they have the pick up bag in hand before I get to the counter ). Even with the crazy day I chugged out 2k but was hoping for 3k and my mc fell in love.
