Jean in Newcastle
I regularly put ours in a bleach solution - I take off the head and put it in a bowl with bleach and hot water.
Lara in Colo
I soak mine in Hyd, peroxide. (20min) I don't know if it works, but I feel better.
Dandelion
I would use hydrogen peroxide as well.
HappyGrace
Does it matter the percentage on the bleach/water solution? And that doesn't affect the internal mechanisms of the head? Or do you basically just dip the brush and stem part in the water (not the mechanism under the "dome" part)? ETA: just saw the hydro peroxide responses-I assume that's straight, not diluted, and then just rinse after?
texasmama
This is not very sophisticated, but I dip the brush part in 100% bleach and then wash it well in hot water. I do this after strep illnesses.
Jean in Newcastle
I use a 10% bleach solution. And no, it hasn't hurt the head. I think all the head has is magnets. I don't put the base with the motor in it. The dome part separates from the head too so I usually separate them.
West Coast Mom
We also soak ours in peroxide.
NotSoObvious
Peroxide. You can brush your tongue with it too. ;)
Dandelion
ETA: just saw the hydro peroxide responses-I assume that's straight, not diluted, and then just rinse after? Yes. We use 3% hydrogen peroxide (which is the standard concentration sold at most stores). Rinse well after. But even if there's some residue left on the brush, you don't need to worry - a little bit of 3% HP can be safely ingested.
Ghee
I was going to suggest a flame thrower, but hydrogen peroxide might be a better choice ;)
AngieW in Texas
You can soak it in hydrogen peroxide. You can also try soaking it in mouthwash. I generally use hydrogen peroxide.
Koerarmoca
I would think hydrogen peroxide or a 50/50 mix of water and tea tree oil...or better yet vinegar is what I would use.
Truscifi
We use vinegar water to soak ds9's overnight for regular cleaning. I never thought of peroxide.
JuanitaL
Run it through the dishwasher? I do this pretty regularly with our toothbrushes.
Karen in CO
I have the UV cleaner thingy for my sonicare. I use it frequently; otherwise I'd mouthwash.
PentecostalMom
I soak mine in Hyd, peroxide. (20min) I don't know if it works, but I feel better. I would use hydrogen peroxide as well. We also soak ours in peroxide. Peroxide. You can brush your tongue with it too. ;) My dd's just had strep and this is exactly what the dentist said. Soak overnight in 100% peroxide, the let completely dry before use. Worked fine. :)
Spy Car
Equal parts peroxide and vinegar makes one of the best disinfectants possible. And it is non-toxic to boot. To disinfect sinks, cutting boards, and the like keep two spray bottles, one with white vinegar, the other with hydrogen peroxide in an opaque container (spray tops generally fit on the brown bottles peroxide come in, so just use those) and spay surfaces with both bottles. This the best disinfectant (more effective than bleach) and there are no chemical worries. Bill
