  1. I'll join in! We are moving (locally) in six weeks and I want defrost the chest freezer before we leave. I just took out a container of pulled pork and we will use it this week for lunches.
  2. So Verbose charges $60 per quarter. My oldest two just started their fourth quarter and we are pleased with the instruction.
  3. Detached No hair on knuckles Straight line Curly hair Smooth chin
  4. What are the differences between using WTTW as written and using it with Jill Pike’s syllabus. As far as I can tell, WTTW alone takes one semester and Pike’s version takes one year. Are there any other benefits to using Pike’s syllabus? We've already covered TTC and would skip that part of the plan. Initially, I planned to go through WTTW and To Kill A Mockingbird between now and September. I see that Pike's syllabus covers TKAM so, that's a bonus. We won't cover the other novels in her syllabus since the boys will be getting more literature when we resume MFW Ancient and World History.
  5. If he's due for a new tooth, it could be an eruption cyst. Look up images and see if it matches what's going on in his mouth.
  6. shirt.woot.com I've ordered for my boys from Woot's shirt site. They loved them and the shirts hold up well. Some designs are printed at time of order and they only print so many a day. It takes longer to ship so, order early if it's for a gift. I'd definitely buy their shirts again.
  7. Christa Bernadina - I still have her and the certificate. My mom gave her to me sometime in the early 80's.
  8. I'm following because we are in CA, file an R4, and I'm trying to figure this out for my oldest.
  9. Check nearby universities that offer graduate programs in Speech Pathology. They provide therapy on a sliding scale. Also, many Scottish Rite Centers have speech and language clinics that offer free diagnostic and therapy services.
  10. I'm still in this, but I'm so very far behind schedule. We needed to make two long distance road trips to tend to an illness in the family and a funeral. With another trip sandwiched in between, I've been on the road much of August. I tried to keep up, but couldn't. And now, I'm staring at September and realize I haven't even ordered our curriculum. So, I'm going to pick up where I left off and move forward. I'll complete the 90 days long after you guys finish, but I WILL finish!
  11. I'm still trying to catch up.
  12. I caught up when we reached our destination and then lost ground over the weekend on the trip home. I can not read in the car while driving through the desert with the sun blazing. I'm working to get back on track by Thursday.
  13. I'm catching up now that we've reached our destination. Will be back on track by Thursday with my modified catch up plan. So happy to be doing this!
  14. I am a full two days behind. DH's mom is very ill and we are traveling to visit her. When I'm not driving, I'm sleeping or tending to the kids. I may have to break down and catch up via audio Bible, but I don't get as get much out of the text when I listen to it. My plan is to start catching up tonight when we arrive at our destination.
  15. I couldn't sleep last night so, I read today's section at 1:00 a.m. It was better than flipping on the television. I'm halfway through Exodus now. Will share some thoughts a bit later.
  16. I finished today's reading. I went a few pages longer and finished Genesis. The chronological Bible I'm using must be arranged differently because I haven't reached Job yet. I'm so happy to be doing this in 90 days. I really needed this intense immersion in the Word right now.
  17. I have two pages left to read today. I'll finish after I get the little kids to bed. I should have just finished it this morning.
  18. I finished my reading today. I found it interesting that Abimelech said it was out of the integrity of his heart that he didn't touch Sarah. Then God responds with the fact that He withheld Abimelech from sinning and didn't let him touch Sarah. Makes me wonder how often we take credit for our good choices when in reality, God is the one who prohibited us from making the mistake in the first place.
  19. Thank you, I was having the same thoughts about Abeka. I've scratched it off my list. RME is black and white like R&S. We just used colored pens & pencils. He didn't seem to mind. He did ask for color a few months ago which is partially why I started looking at Horizons. Now, he doesn't seem to care.
  20. I enjoyed Day 1, though I started earlier than expected. The power went out around midnight while we were getting ready for bed. It was too hot and muggy to sleep so, I grabbed a flashlight and started reading. I was finishing up just as the power returned. What a great way for me to start Day 1!
  21. My high school Latin teacher was Ms. French.
  22. My son just turned 7 and recently finished Reading Made Easy. I feel he needs another round of phonics instruction just to solidify his skills. Plus, I'm feeling a bit antsy about only doing RME when so many other programs span multiple years. That's my issue though, not his. I've been going around and around with this and would love to get some advice from others. I'm tired of the indecision and just need to get on with it. Here are a few programs I'm considering: 1. Horizons - grade 2 2. Adventures in Phonics - can't decide if I should go with level B or C. I wrote CLP and their answer didn't really help. 3. Rod and Staff - 1 or 2? 4. Abeka - 1 or 2? 5. I'm open to suggestions I'm planning on starting R&S spelling 2 at some point. I'm considering Primary Language Lessons, Language Lessons for Today, or CLE LA. I really want to settle on a phonics path before I dive into all that. And we will continue our regular reading together. He is doing well with phonics, but doesn't enjoy reading at all. It's really the only thing that brings him to tears, though I think it's more of a stalling technique than anything. His stamina for handwriting is about average.
