Hoggirl
I just want to throw out medjool dates as a topic. I absolutely adore these! There is a local restaurant that has an appetizer called "Cheap Dates" which are medjool dates stuffed with a mixture of cream and gorgonzola cheeses, wrapped in bacon!! Oh, my word! Truly, however, I just enjoy eating then plain. I buy mine at Sam's Club. Highly recommend! Edited June 27, 2012 by Hoggirl

nd293
Where we lived in the Middle East there was a specialist date shop, like you'd get a specialist chocolate shop. Dh would stop and pick dates from trees along the side of the road. While it was fairly common to see local families doing this, seeing my husband doing it tended to slow traffic! NancyNellen
I'm not a huge fan, but my husband ADORES them. He calls them "God's perfect candy."

justamouse
For Christmas I stuff them with a piece of pineapple, some cream cheese and wrap them in bacon. The plate is gone before it hits the table. I do like them, but to me they are very, very sweet.

I saw some packs of them at Central Market last week when I was there - as soon as I get paid on the 1st I'm going to get some I think. thescrappyhomeschooler
I love them too. I make these when we go to parties and they are ALWAYS a hit! OMG! those look good- gonna have to try that! I grind medjool dates up in the food processor with walnuts, dried cherries and cocoa powder, form into balls and roll in almond flour. Or, another poster on here had a recipe for stuffing the dates with almond butter mixed with cocoa powder (you can add a little honey, too) and freezing them. Those are scrumptious, too. Spy Car
Mmmm. The favorite dates I've ever tried by a long-shot. When I've fasted with Muslim friends for Ramadan I've always broken the fast with a Medjool date in the manner of the Prophet. Somehow it seems like a reasonable trade-off, starve all day but get a Medjool as a reward :D Bill
Singingmom
I love them! They are my desert of choice lately. I also do the appetizer thing with cream cheese/ gorgonzola or blue cheese wrapped in prosciutto and steamed till warm. The yummiest things ever. I have found them to be pricey at the Middle Eastern Market in town, so I pick up a tub at Costco every month or so :) .
