  1. We have a rule in our house between adults, "you can ask me to do something or you can tell me how to do something, but you can't do both". Works great 98% of the time. ?
  2. As a former military member and wife of a military guy, we've moved a bit and painted a lot. I can cut without tape. Easily. If you cannot, then tape on!
  3. This sorry MADE my day yesterday. Praying for a safe and expedient extraction.
  4. Except that the College Board controls the CLEP exams (at least registration!!).
  5. "But the debates about whether the history of one’s identity group is properly told in an AP class are only part of a larger issue. AP classes, and the College Board, have too large a role in defining the curriculum of American high schools due to their de facto monopoly on the college-credit (and achievement-recognition) system for high schoolers." And later in the article, "What’s the alternative? It’s as simple as competition. If universities cease evaluating students by the count of AP classes taken, and high schools stop measuring themselves by the number of AP test-takers in their student body, then the door would be open for a variety of programs for promising high school students. These could include dual-enrollment classes managed through local colleges or through nationwide programs, and challenging programs that may or may not promise college credit but do offer a nationally recognized curriculum in a given subject. AP exams may have made sense in the pre-Internet age in which they originated, but surely in the year 2018, we can think much broader than a College Board monopoly." Elizabeth Bauer said it so well!! https://thefederalist.com/2018/06/19/problem-ap-classes-far-bigger-imperialism/
  6. At the admission lecture of a prestigious engineering school, they said they screen applicants of the same school together so they can look at the student's rigor compared to what the school offers, so I think this isn't an unreasonable move. Now, add in the potential for DE and I think it can get messy. How much is enough rigor in actual college classes when you're applying for college?
  7. I'm glad they're doing the drop and hope the trend continues. AP isn't really a college experience. AP classes are twice the length (2 semesters with twice the instructor face time than a 1 semester college class) of a real college course, and high stakes testing is unrealistic and not at all what most college courses rely on for grading. Depth, pace, and intensity have a lot to do with "college" vs "high school". I also think that AP classes, like US history which was a norm for honors level high school freshman in our C rated local Mississippi high school, are a joke. Yes, some high school freshman could handle a college US history course, but for it to be the standard makes me think it's in no way reflective of real college work.
  8. I got a paddleboard. It's a good brutal on the core. I also love yoga. I'm bad at it, but I love the workout and the chill time at the end.
  9. I would internally (hopefully) roll my eyes and make a note to myself that we'd be better off to meet at a restaurant if food were involved.
  10. I think it's very different. And, if you add in general adult incontinence, the use of absorbent under garments, etc it seems like it would be a common ailment. But yes, i think it's different.
  11. Check for a UTI. It's so simple but can cause so many serious looking issues in older adults. Please, check there first.
  12. I would consider Stats. It's a great class in general, and the math isn't very difficult. It's also very practical and useful in adult life.
  13. I have overnight oats every day. I use 1/2 cup Fage non fat unsweetened yogurt, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/3 cup old fashioned oats, and 1 t chia seeds. Stir. Top with 1 cup frozen blueberries and stick in the fridge overnight. In the morning stir and eat. Yum!!! I will say, Kroger's private selection (and cheap) frozen blueberries are SO SWEET and delicious.
  14. I love Rick Steves for guide books and ideas. Another idea is to Google tour companies and see what you like, then plan your own based on a general plan. It'll be cheaper by far and customizable. You can focus on places with public transport or rent a car. Then check out museums, attractions, etc and customize. I use booking.com for all my hotels and they're great. You can check locations, recommendations, etc. Easy peasy. You can also cancel a lot for free (the Ibis line in Europe has great cancellation rules) so it's fun to plan and swap stuff around. Some things that is recommend in general - location over cost (while being reasonable). Time is money so an hour spent on a train for 4 people a day... It's worth the$50/night for the closer hotel. Plan breaks, gaps, and rest. We do a "what's one?" poll for every trip. "If there were one thing you'd be sad we missed - an experience/food/shop/museum etc - what is it? Those get priority. Classes are SO FUN when traveling. Our cooking class was the highlight of our Japan trip. Try it! Public transport is cheap and easy. Definitely use it whenever possible. Whenever you can, buy museum tickets online. So easy. Minimal lines. And check what a "child" or "youth" is, as most museums are free for under 17 in Europe (this makes some of those multi passes a huge rip off for children).
  15. I'm doing it. I think I still prefer the old program but I'm adjusting. I'm down 65 with about 15 to go. I love Connect and the meetings are AWESOME.
  16. Do the Fenway tour!! Very interesting and great photo ops!!!
  17. WW has the online program, plus the etools (and Connect, which is awesome). You can also add an additional coaching session to your program if you want. It's consistently rated #1. I'm down 65# since July by eating well, tracking, and going to meetings.
  18. 12ish. Minneapolis to Tokyo. Honestly, after about 6 hours it doesn't matter. They give you food. You walk a little. You nap. The tv screens are great. Then it's over. The payoff of travel is so worth it!!!
  19. I have a [shameful] addiction to pens and paper. I've used the Frixion with great success.... Many varieties... Many colors... Target had a great selection this fall.
  20. Just wanted to throw out an idea. We got out of sequence with calculus and the AP exam. You can almost always CLEP and then move into a higher math. It's not "AP" but it serves the purpose of proving a level of math completed for prerequisite courses.
  21. We have not/will not do the pre-ACT. My kids take the ACT as freshman, then again as needed.
  22. Yes. I live in the Deep South. We send thank you notes for everything.
  23. I'm sick. I'm binge watching. I love the show Home Town! I love the hosts (oh my they're so cute and kind), I love their recycling mentality, I love that they're doing for their small town, I love their craftsmanship. It's just great. I'd have Erin decorate my house in a minute!! We're building now but I would totally consider a renovation after watching this!
