  1. I am color challenged, too. I like to go to the paint stores and get the cards that have all the coordinating colors families on them. Then I don't have to guess.
  2. I do believe I have to have both cranberry and pumpkin pie to make Thanksgiving a day of thanks.
  3. Maybe he doesn't like your potatoes.......
  4. How old is the person? Creative packaging? Example: If it is for a child, wrap it like a firecracker or inflate a balloon and put it inside.
  5. Yep. Some "well educated" kids lack motivation and work at fast food. There are numerous ways to gain an education and eventually one has to take responsibility for oneself.
  6. I did the exact same thing today! I actually priced it out by ounce to see which was the better deal, too. Then I came home and hid it.....
  7. You have a lot of options. Have you thought about free online public school--she would have to account for her work to teachers but can do it from home. You could look into local homeschool groups--sometimes there is a parent who will teach specific subjects--this gets her away from you for a bit and she, again, has to account to someone other than Mom. I would sit her down and discuss her attitude with her. I would think about making her sign a contract then if she does not uphold her end of things, whether it be completion of schoolwork or attitude, then you will send her back to public school (or whatever you decide to put into the contract). Of course, you should be willing to follow through on whatever consequence is in the contract...
  8. Pretend. If you accept the invitation, you must honor the hosts' stipulations. Your parents lost a child--by not going they "lose" you, too. Put on a big, happy-to-be-there smile, bring a goofy gift and.....pretend.
  9. Just to commiserate: a friend of mine had to plant hundreds of trees. Hers were just little twigs and the way she did it was to cut into the ground with her shovel, push the shovel over while the blade was still in the ground in order to make a gap, and slip her little tree's roots into that gap. Pulling the shovel out closes the gap and a couple of taps with the foot firms it in place. Wouldn't work well with larger trees, that's for sure.
  10. Sadly, I read this thread for ideas since I drew a blank.....
  11. For a young adult just entering the work force some of the points of working would be: 1. to gain experience both in skills and in interpersonal relationships, 2. earn some money (which can help teach economics and money management and help offset parents' expenses with having said young adult still living at home) 3. and also to gain knowledge--how is one to know they do not want to flip burgers, or rake yards, or whatever unless they do it? Plus, there might be one aspect of the job that they find they like (maybe they find they like working with their hands or being outdoors and that can lead to a different career path).
  12. Just wanted to say Good Luck to your husband!!!!!
  13. Doesn't matter what she thinks she's worth. Perhaps the job she is doing is not worth paying anyone more per hour. If I need someone to rake my yard because I don't really feel like doing it myself, and I figure the job is worth maybe $10, then that is all I am willing to pay. I don't care if you are a brain surgeon. That's all I am going to pay you.
  14. How about an experience--somewhere he wants to go/visit? A trip?
  15. Chili, sloppy joes, pulled pork--all can be kept in crock pots. Of course, it depends on what one considers healthy now-a-days.
  16. No--I would not allow a naked butted person on the furniture, either.
  17. Nothing wrong with kicking back a few cold ones with some chicks.
  18. Well, good heavens....you do know those things eat bugs and mice and stuff, don't you?
  19. Yes, that is helpful, but from a nutrient standpoint, we require protein, fat, and carbs. Are the countries eating a lot of dairy eating full fat dairy or fat free? Some countries eat insects as a protein source...I don't know..for me, I would like to see the three categories with further breakdown. (I don't want to do the work myself :001_smile:) It is a very interesting site.
  20. Very interesting in light of the Paleo/Primal craze how grain dependent we (globally) truly are. I would like to see a breakdown on carbs/fats/protein, with these categories further divided to say where each is coming from.
  21. "You're out of clean underwear? Sorry, but I didn't feel like doing the laundry so last time I was in town I dropped it all off at the cleaners. It will be ready next week."
  22. I notice this as something the general population does (constant food/beverages). I am always astounded when out in public at the number of adults who apparently are at risk of certain death from starvation or dehydration judging from the drinks and snacks they are carrying around with them.
  23. I agree with your whole post. I swore my bees were trying to tell me something when they came to the window (bolded above). My family didn't beelieve me.
  24. I wouldn't consider this an inexpensive project. Supers full of honey can weigh 90# also. I would apprentice with a local beekeeper to learn how. Once you see what is involved, you might not want to pursue it. Extension agents should know who the local beekeepers or beekeeping clubs are.
