Anyone else get the $10 gift card from
Vernal replied to mama25angels's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I got mine too. I don't know what I'll get though. -
How many presents will not make it for Christmas?
Vernal replied to RegGuheert's topic in The Chat Board
I ordered from American Girl on Saturday with rush shipping etc. it was supposed to be here Wednesday. It stayed ON A FED EX TRUCK out for delivery since Wednesday. . I called and changed it to pick up last night over an hour away (closest pick up to us). When DH gets there to pick it up, they had left it on the truck. It was out for delivery again! I think he must have lost it on someone in Fed Ex, because he called when he left the office and said it should be here within 30 minutes and to call him back if it wasn't. I was a little scared. 😠It showed up in about 20 minutes. I normally wouldn't have waited so long, but my mom passed away 2 weeks ago and was in the hospital 3 weeks before that, so I really haven't been able to shop that much. In the package from AG was 2 of DD's 3 presents. A 7 year old really can't just wait until later in the week. -
Theres also a casserole called King Ranch Chicken that has crushed tortilla chips in it that's delicious. I don't have the recipe, but I know it on allrecipes.com.

I would check the kids first. Then try hot packing them. I always hot pack tomatoes then water bath.

Box checkers = boxed curriculum?
Vernal replied to AimeeM's topic in General Education Discussion Board
FYI: there is a big re sell market on MP stuff, especially the SC levEls because they are newer. Sell what you want and keep the parts you like. I wish someone had told me this when I spent $1000 on K and didn't love all the parts. I also agree with the previous poster that said it's easier to tweak than it appears. i have also banned myself from the MP website and the catalogs. Too much temptation. 😄 -
First Start Reading would be the only one of those that doesn't have any religious references in it that I can remember. The copy work is the scripture to be memorized for the week. The teachers manual has the prayers they suggest to be memorized. HTH

So you are not going to keep up with the Kardashians for us?😜

i can't like on my phone, but thanks for the help ladies. I think I'm going with white chicken chilli. The pork was cheaper by the pound than chicken!

I am cooking for a group of 25 college kids this week. On the menu is: Spaghetti Tacos Roasted pork loin I need one more meal. They usually have fried chicken for lunch more than once during the week, but I'm open to other chicken ideas. And they need a fairly heavy evening meal, so no sandwiches. I will have salad and fresh veggies to go with their meals all week. Anybody have any good ideas to feed a bunch of hungry kids?

Thank you for sharing -
I usually think "this day has tackled ME!" 😜 But I also get the point of the thread. And kudos to Jean for keeping it up.

Songs & Hymns for Spring
Vernal replied to Angela Beshears's topic in General Education Discussion Board
In The Garden! My favorite hymn. -
If you really want to get rid of them PLEASE take them to a thrift store/Goodwill/Salvation Army! I would swoon if I found a bin of Legos!

If you use products by Philiosophy, what scent do you like?
Vernal replied to Chris in VA's topic in The Chat Board
Amazing Grace! Love it. I have also been told by theperson that turned me on to Philosophy that Baby Grace is good too. But I haven't smelled it IRL. -

How much would you price Schleich animals for sale on Craigslist?
Vernal replied to Tap's topic in The Chat Board
I would check eBay to see what similar lots are going for. And make sure she doesn't have a rare one that could really be worth more. PM me when she decides on a price. My kiddos would love them! -
Phoebe Marie. She had blonde hair and blue eyes. I loved her.

My kiddos, ages 6&7, still play with it a lot. We moved it to the porch last spring and it was a whole new toy this summer. Mud pies and the ability to have water entertained them a lot this summer.

Yup. I did it too. But only once so far. But my kiddos are only in 2nd grade, so there's time left :) Ours was Memoria Press K. So glorious in the catalog. But the phonics and the math didn't work for us. And SOOOO much handwriting. So I was left with a very expensive enrichment program.

Once DH jokingly told the kids that if they didn't stop talking so loud and so much in the car that I was going to jump out. Now if I ask them to be quiet while we are in the car, DD6 will ask "Why Mama? Are you going to jump out?"

I loved OPGTR, but my DS did not. He cringed when I got the book out. It was easy to follow for me, but not my DS. He was confused and overwhelmed by all the type in the page. I tried writing the lesson in a white board and typing out the sentences in white paper. It was better for him, but we have moved to MP's First Start Reading. It's going so much better.

Old personal journals - throw them out or keep them?
Vernal replied to SKL's topic in The Chat Board
Set them on fire! -
With our elderly doxie, the combo of fish oil and glucosamine/chondroition put off the need for rimadyl or tramadol for about two years. We also took away his stair climbing privileges at the same time we started the supplements. He ended up needing the tramadol for the last year of his life. He was almost 17 when he died.

First on my list would be art also. Then projects like the ones from SOTW activity guide or science experiments. I do NOT want to make a bronze helmet after phonics and math with a first and second grader! What are your talents? I would love for my kids to learn about what interests their grandparents, be it gardening, cooking, whatever. My mom is going to have an ASL class for my two and two other children from our church starting after Labor Day. Everyone is looking forward to it.
