  1. Thanks for the ideas. He likes technology but I don't feel qualified to purchase him Anything in that department. We do outdoor stuff together. Hmm. Part of the problem is a that he tends to be an impulse shopper so if he thinks of something he wants, and it isn't really expensive he just buys it. So there has been more than one occasion when I planned to get him something for a birthday or holiday and he bought it for himself. I hope that doesn't sound bad. Not that he is just buying himself stuff all the time but it seems every time I think of a great gift, he ends up having already gotten it before his bday comes around. 2. I would take any and all suggestions. I have a husband that I know would really like a present but he is so hard to shop for. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I just went to a mall that I hadn't been to in years to take the kids ice skating. (We had lived away for a number of years and came back). It had just been partially redone and it was dead. It was a Friday night and very quiet. The food court had 5 empty spaces. The movie theater that had been inside it was closed. I was quite surprised. I'm not a fan of malls but I'm not a fan of big box stores either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Interesting. What brand do you have? In any case, I have seen kids bring math problem like this home before where unless the parent has other information, you can't answer the question. I had a friend whose daughter brought home a math worksheet for homework that asked the child to write how many cubes there were in the picture, but there were no cubes in the picture. There were some squares that had a bump on top and a circle in the middle. I guess they were supposed to look like stacking cubes but they were squares with bumps and she was completely confused by the worksheet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I think pattern blocks come in standard colors. The hexagon is always yellow. The square is orange. The trapezoid is red. The triangle is blue. But a kindergartner might not remember that and if the worksheet is not in color, and the parents don't know that, it makes is challenging. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I have used MM and right start and MM is fine but for us, it was not any less teacher intensive than RS because I have to sit next to my son pretty much the whole time either way. So consider how well your child can work independently before making the change, or be ready to reevaluate if it is not working. I don't regret MM because you can get the whole series for pretty cheep in a PDF so it is a nice extra curriculum to have on hand if something is not working in your main curriculum. 7. Hope you all feel better soon. Everyone at our house had the flu and then one child had oral surgery. So I feel like the last three weeks have gone without much substantive work done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I know you want to hire someone, but if you change your mind. We moved ourselves cross multiple times. We found Penske to have the nicest and least expensive trucks. Also, a 25 foot truck can fit a lot of stuff. Maybe something to look into. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I have used LOE A-D with my son and am now using it with my daughter. The workbook pages are clean and there is not a lot on the page. There are lots of games and kinesthetic learning opportunities. I like the readers. I feel like there needs to be more of them at the B, andC levels so I used the BOB books at the B and C level. Once you are in D you can read anything and you don't need readers so much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Sorry for making you upset. I wasn't trying to imply that PT was the only answer or that surgery wasn't necessary. It seems there are many women with this issue and it seems that often people think you just have to live with it. Often you don't. If one does need surgery working with a good PT before and after can also help the surgery be more successful. And sometimes nothing works and one just suffers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. If you can find a good pelvic floor PT they can help considerably. I have had issues in the past but I have been able to get it under control with physical therapy. There are things you can do. Check out the website thetummyteam.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. My 10 month old has a fracture and these were/ are his symptoms. The hospital missed it the first time because the fracture was around his knee not his hips. And he saw a NP. His MD knew it was he knee as soon as he saw him because he wouldn't straighten his less. He won't pull up and it has been two weeks at this point. He is crawling around though and is in much less pain now. We saw the ortho after getting the X-ray. Probably good to see them for a baby. We didn't need a cast. The doc gave me an option and said I could be really careful or we could do a cast. She would have recommended a cast if he was in daycare. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Honestly, the smaller the easier. I have traveled with tiny ones. That's a short flight, sounds petty painless compared to traveling with older kids ;). Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I was going to recommend anything by John Gottman too. Everything is evidence and research based. Take a look at his website. I'm sure his books are at your library and many of them are available in audiobook as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Horrifying and so so sad. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Ha! I don't even know how to figure out how many post I have. But I can only get on from my phone and can't get on from a computer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Any one used this and have a quick review? I have looked at it a couple of times but I would love to here some personal experiences. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Well my 7 yo took the garbage and recycling and compost out his morning with no shoes and the ground is covered in ice and it was below 30. He had no coat on either. I was a bit surprised he wasn't wearing shoes. But, I figure he will put shoes/coat on eventually if he gets cold enough and I don't feel like he is any real danger from not wearing it. If we were going somewhere that I knew he would be cold, and I would have to listen to complaints I would tell him to wear it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. We have been doing BA 3a alongside right start D. But RS can be a little slow and I have to speed it up a bit for my son. But since we have been doing it since level b and I like it I keep doing it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. If there is a high interest book, I will read one page and then my son will read a page and we go back and forth. Maybe that would help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Thanks for sharing? Are they compatible with magformers? Since you said you had those too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. . Are you saying she swears because calls people "silly a.." regularly? I love Peter Pan and my kids do to but it is definitely odd and there is much to discuss. I understand why people wouldn't like it. If you don't have time to read them, I would listen to an audio version in the car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I use. I have used A-C and currently 3/4 through D with my son (7) and just starting A with my 5 year old. I really like it but it is all I have ever used for the most part. I did check out 100 easy lessons and the ordinary parents guide to teaching your child to read from the library but those did not work that well when I tried them with my son. I am now trying to figure out what we are going to do when we finis D. We have gone through D slowly and done lots of other reading out loud outside of the curriculum and copy work outside of the curriculum. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. We have listened to the one by James Frain. My son loves it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. The audio book of A Christmas Carol read by Jim Dale is wonderful. We have listened to it for the last three years and my kids are currently 7 and 5 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
