  1. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for videos appropriate for elementary age students in Hebrew. I usually do a one day a week fun language day and watch videos in Hebrew so I have used Rechov Sumsum, but my library only had a couple. I was wondering if there was anything online that would be good. I could buy a few things if they are really good Any ideas for me? My parents will actually be in Israel but I was worried if they bought anything over there, it wouldn't work here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. We do an hour of sit at the table work. (Half hour or so of math and a half hour of reading/writing/phonics). Everything else I spread throughout the day or do pieces here and there. Like a morning time/morning basket and more interactive science or art time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I disagree it has "always been out there." Measles and chickenpox were both put on the market and on the CDC schedule as a one shot for a lifetime of immunity. We now know that is not the case. It was not clear that immunity from the accellular pertussis vaccine would wane as quickly as it does and many people (3/10) wouldn't even have protection in the first year after completing the series. I think the point is that being honest and being more forthcoming about how vaccines work or don't work might give people more confidence in the vaccine schedule and cause less blaming and animosity in society. 4. First of all, according to the latest research tetanus immunity lasts 30 years. https://news.ohsu.edu/2016/03/22/study-shows-tetanus-shots-needed-every-30-years-not-every-10 The pertussis vaccine protects less than half the people given it after 4 years. That's not just waning immunity. It was designed to keep those who are up to date from getting and spreading pertussis and it doesn't do that. So I would call that failure and we can agree to disagree on that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. So if you get vaccinated and it doesn't work and you still get the disease that is not a failure of the vaccine? Just a "known limitation". That sounds like 1984 speak. My kids are fully vaccinated but when a vaccine is given and it doesn't work, that is failure of the vaccine. When something is designed to work a certain way and it doesn't that would fit my definition of failure. One definition of failure is lack of success. I also feel like effectiveness is not well defined. According to the CDC the pertussis vaccine (Tdap) protects 7/10 people in the first year after receiving it and it drops to 3 or 4 out of 10 by 4 years. Even with 100% compliance pertussis is going to be floating around. The effectiveness rates for dtap are higher but still not high enough to prevent outbreaks even with everyone being up to date. Sure, I'll keep myself up to date but I won't be shocked when my kids or myself get it. https://www.cdc.gov/pertussis/pregnant/mom/vacc-effectiveness.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. We have a push mower and it's great. Electric mowers are also nice and quiet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I would feel guilty too. Is there anything that you could invite her to where you wouldn't actually have to have a great deal of conversation? Like a child's recital or play or concert. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I would (did) splurge on a diono which can rear face along time and I can easily get three across in a back seat. And they wear well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. You all are great! Thank you for the encouragement and advice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Oh I'm so sorry. At least my immediate family is supportive of me and homeschooling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I had a precipitous labor after eating dates but I didn't eat that many everyday (maybe 4) and I forgot some days. I did make coconut date balls that were really good. I don't have the recipe any more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I have white floor and white cabinets. The floor makes me crazy. I sweep close to 5 times a day and wipe it down 2-3. And we don't wear shoes in the house. On the plus side, I know my floor is clean and don't mind when my baby eats off it. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Oh my! What can you do but laugh at that one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Yes, I feel this way. At least his is learning at home which he would not be if I was forcing him to go to school and he was refusing and misbehaving there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I know my child has behavioral issues. He is 7. We have done behavior modification therapy. He is getting OT for a sensory processing disorder, we are in the process of getting neuropsych evaluation. And a friend basically said, the problem is that you homeschool. We had just had a behavioral issues with my son and my friend has a pretty powerful personality and I was sort of flustered, and didn't say anything. I am not really looking to defend myself or my decisions. These behavioral issues would not disappear if he was in school. He had these issues in preschool. Further, he would refuse to go to school even if I did enroll him and would probably have to be physically restrained to keep him there. I don't know what I want here except maybe a little sympathy, anyone who has been there, please feel free to chime in. Thanks
  17. They can get into zip locks and into glass jars. It seems there is nothing they can't get into. But still those are better than not. I would just keep going through stuff. Look in all the corners between the wall and the ceiling. I'm so sorry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. We have done A. LOE and it went great. I tried OPGTtR, and it flopped. We also use BOB books and they are fine and good for reinforcement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Oh I hate the TVs at the airport. I don't understand why they don't just mute them and have subtitles. If anyone was really watching, they would get the news without blasting everyone else. The nights I have been stuck in airports, they never turn off either. So just blaring news all night long! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Oh no! Firefighters will come and pop open a car door if you need and the ones that rescued me were super nice and relaxed about it. They do it regularly apparently. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I don't know what you keep your thermostat at but we keep ours at about 60 in the winter, so usually wear a hat indoors and will wear one to bed if my husbands not home. I also hang clothes to dry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I would imagine you would only be on them for a short duration if it is for bronchitis. My husband took them for a more prolonged time and has horrible stretch marks because they wrecked his skin. They also affect your mood. He was on prednisone. Hope the antibiotics work for you. 23. My kids are usually more comfortable playing at our house, be that inside or outside, than at someone else's house. And that's fine with me. I'm willing to have neighbor kids over here. I have one neighboor whose kids I have often because she needs the help and it doesn't bother me. But if it is not raining, I send the kids outside. I would not let my child play at someone's house who I didn't know at the elementary age, (the age of my kids now). We'll see when they are older what they are comfortable with. And what I am comfortable with. My kids are homebodies though so at this point I'm not too worried about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I'm planning to get this too even though we are working on 3a. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. The thing I would think about is are you going to have a mortgage and how many years will the mortgage be. My inlaws bought a house in their 50s and then lost their jobs in their 60 and they still have a significant mortgage. They are ok and they won't loose the house or anything but it is not a situation I would want to be in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
