  1. A house with hundreds of yellow jackets is not habitable. You should not have to pay rent. I would look into your states laws landlord/tenent laws and see if they there is a renters rights type group that could give you more specific information about the local laws and protections. 2. I was wondering if we could make a list of homeschool book stores or other favorite local bookstores. I know someone who used to visit Exodus Books everytime she went to Portland. In light of the fact that so many local bookstores are closing because of Amazon and online stores I was thinking we could make a thread with our favorite local bookstore. They don't have to be homeschool bookstores because I know they aren't that common so just list your favorite local bookstore or other favorite place to buy homeschool curriculum and the city and state or country. If you are like me, you would visit a bookstore on your next vacation if you knew it was going to be a good one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Ultrasound techs or radiology techs make a good amount of money and it is an associates degree. And it is usually shift work. Although there maybe call. So you should investigate where you would want to be employed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Poems every child should know, read by Kara Shallenberg on LibriVox Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Thank you for these thoughts. Looks like I have more reading to do and calls to make. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It took years of shots, but I just have to do eye drops and sometimes a zyrect once in a blue moon now. It was worth it too me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Hugs! 2/3 kids are at Day camp this week and I have gotten so little done despite my grand plans. So I understand the feeling. And honestly I'm not any less tired then when I have them all day. But good luck. Hope you feel better about everything! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. We are getting early intervention for my 18month old with developmental delays in the area of auditory comprehension, expressive communication, and personal social. So the early intervention folks have been super helpful and responsive and told me to think about what I want in a Individual Family Service Plan. We don't have a diagnosis and he doesn't have any really obvious issues, other than not talking/communicating/responding. Hearing has been testing and he does hear find. He is an overall happy kid, motor skills are slightly delayed, but that is not a concern really at this point. Since, I don't have experience with this, I was wondering what other people have asked for and what has been most helpful. I know this is not for a school age kid, but i'm hoping getting early intervention will hopefully head off some of the issues that i have had with my older child who didn't get early intervention and now I wish that he did.
  9. We have not done tests at home but this year we started doing a standardized text at the end of the year. For our state, we have to ever couple of years and I just want my children to be used to taking it every year and hopefully it won't feel like a big deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Wow. Funny, although at a doctor's office I wouldn't have a problem with it. I don't personally do it but I also drop off all our old magazines at the doctor's office to get rid of them. I think the doctor's office has plenty to spare. But maybe the person should just take the whole magazine so as not to annoy the person who looks at it next. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Oh I'm so sorry. I remember my FIL trying to reason with my grandmother in law when she had Alzheimer's and it was horrible. She would get so agitated and and trying to reason with her was like trying to reason with a toddler. I have read about a study that showed that Alzheimer's patients that listened to their favorite music from their past did better and were about to reduce the amount of antipsychotic medication they had to take. Maybe create a playlist of her favorite songs or hymns. It couldn't hurt and maybe it would give here a little help while her meds get figured out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I wouldn't worry to much about being up to date on tetanus. The latest research shows it last 30 years rather than 10. https://news.ohsu.edu/2016/03/22/study-shows-tetanus-shots-needed-every-30-years-not-every-10 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Check your library. Apparently libraries are giving out 2 million pairs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Sure, you can give your children whatever ultimatums you want. I'm not sure that is the best way to foster a healthy relationship with anybody though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Having a university require it is completely different than a parent requiring for their adult child. I don't think that is comparable. And some universities do allow exemptions, which the adult student would have to sign for, not the parent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. This person is going to college. She is an adult (or nearly so) How much control do the people saying this is "non negotiable" think they should have over other adults medical decision? Sure, let her know your opinion in it but ultimately it is up to her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Green Toys makes very sturdy sand toys from recycled milk cartons. We have not had any break. I'm very happy with them. I stick to plastic because metal will rust because of the salt water. Unless of course it is teen ages building something, then I would let them use real shovels and such. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Thanks so much for the thoughts and suggestions. I am finally getting back to this after a day filled with OT, teeth extractions and an early intervention appointment for another child. So I need to sit down and think and read through these responses again and figure out a system. We had a previous therapist (3 years ago now) that was really good at tracking things like this. 19. I need a way to track my child's behavior to see if all these various therapies are helping. I have tried writing things down but is it more narrative and I need sone way to track things quantitatively. Any ideas? What have you done that has worked for you? Thanks! 20. I also would not force a child to go to sleep away camp. Day camp yes, depending on the circumstance but not sleep away. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Movie (at home) with popcorn. Eating dinner in front of a movie. 10-20 min back rub/ tickle, making smoothies. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. My kids eat dry oatmeal. And will eat dry pasta when it is available. The oatmeal is on a lower shelf and more easily accessible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I don't use every page in the workbook but I still think it would be useful to have. I probably use half the pages, but I bought the PDF and I have at least three kids that will be using it. I have the second edition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. That's so strange. I don't know what I am doing wrong because I have not had it save the spot. Maybe my app needs to be updated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. My library has both. I don't have to put things on hold on hoopla so that is nice. Overdrive I often have to wait weeks for a book. Hoopla also saves my spot when the book expires and I don't think overdrive does. It also is easier to check out books via hoopla, just one click, versus having to click though a bunch of differ pages and then download. But I'm not sure I would pay 40 dollars for it. It does have video and music too, so that is something to consider as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
