  1. I let my 12yo dd get hair extensions last year. She is AA and was tired of her hair being braided up into a bun. I am totally incompetent to put her hair into different styles! I let her do it for a change. I didn't think it was a big deal. It's just hair. :001_smile:
  2. I have already called our local ps and found out that October 1st is the date to come pay and October 13th is testing. It is $16 here. tigersgrowl - I was told that due to size 1/2 the kids will be in the cafeteria and the other half in a multi-purpose room. The kids not attending the school will be mixed in with the other kids. That's how they are doing it here anyway.
  3. Yes, all the time. There are things going on here also that are out of my control and this board is a wonderful escape - and so many wonderful people. I'll pray for you Denise. :grouphug:
  4. As far as appointments, I have a calendar in my kitchen that I write everything on. I also have a small one in my purse that I write things down on when we're out. I immediately transfer to my kitchen calendar when I get home. I put the date library books are due on the calendar. I also make myself a list of things I don't want to forget during the week that are not every week activities, i.e. making a hair appointment. I leave it on the kitchen counter under my calendar to remind me and so I can write down the date/time when the appointment is made.
  5. Another control freak here - if that's how you're defining it. I have too much to do to fly by the seat of my pants. I write a menu/grocery list every week. I know every morning what is for dinner that night and what I have to do to have it ready. All of us have chores before school every morning and then one weekly chore (that is something that needs to be done monthly). Everyone is required to have their beds made and rooms straightened up before they even come out of their room in the morning. For school, the kids have a written page of what needs to be done in every subject every day, and we are not finished until it is done. We start school at the same time every morning - they know to have eaten breakfast, brushed their teeth, done their chore and be in the living room for Bible by 7:00. It works for us.
  6. We can sleep an extra 8 on furniture, and more if it's kids on the floor in sleeping bags. We may have a big crew come visit soon and we've talked about hooking up our camper in our driveway or near our barn. It will sleep 6.
  7. I have a friend who makes grammatical errors all the time on her blog. It drives me absolutely nuts. I would never tell her. I don't think she would take it well. I have to just let it go.
  8. Chris, no advice because I haven't been there. I think you have walked this path long enough with him to know what is the right thing to do. I just wanted to send you :grouphug:. I'll be praying for you.
  9. :grouphug: Praying for you, Heather. Also praying for our men and women in Afghanistan and other places where this man's actions will put them at risk.
  10. It's probably hiding somewhere with my son's Saxon Physics book. I have cleaned out every drawer, closet, looked under beds, everywhere. I had to order another one. I'm expecting to find it as soon as this one is too used to return. If your IEP is with it, I'll pm you. :001_smile:
  11. The kids all had something different for lunch today, but your post reminded me that I forgot to feed myself! It's 3:00! Leaving now to get something to eat . . .
  12. I guess my answer is no. We live 45 minutes to an hour from gymnastics, which is every day. 45 minutes to baseball (I have to leave in about an hour from now!), and about the same to dance. It really is a trade off. My 17yo has a car and drives himself where he needs to go. My dh has businesses in several locations, so his drive can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half. Our place is on acreage with streams, a big barn, and trails through the woods. Home is peaceful. It is worth the driving to us. :001_smile:
  13. You've gotten good advice to give him already. Just wanted to send you a :grouphug: from another mom whose son up and joined the MC.
  14. I live near, but have never met, Oak Knoll Mom and LNC. I also live relatively close to Nakia and have met her. She is great! Her family is coming over next week. I would love to know if there are other boardies near Asheville.
  15. I just went to google and I have the little balls. It's kind of neat to run your cursor through them and watch them run! I have no idea why they're there.
  16. My dh's dad passed away a few years ago, but in all our years of marriage (since he was 23 - almost 30 years ago), I never saw him kiss his dad. His dad was a very "emotionally removed" person though. I have a son who is 24. He gives his dad "hello" and "good-bye" hugs, but I haven't seen him kiss his dad on the lips since he was probably 5. I would think it a little strange.
  17. I had a boy shaped like that! I found plain Levis for him at sheplers.com. They have those sizes and lots of times will have them on sale for $19.99.
  18. My kids' favorites at those ages were the Winnie the Pooh books and Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. They are hilarious!
  19. I got an ambrosia recipe out of the Delaney sisters' book years ago, and the only ingredients are oranges, coconut, and sugar. It's yummy. Don't know about the pate. Hmmm . . .
  20. For my 17yo we may go ahead and get the new system XBox is coming out with - can't remember the name. Car care stuff, clothes, and whatever he comes up with between now and then. I haven't really put a lot of thought into Christmas yet.
  21. We drink about 5 gallons a week for the 6 of us. I don't drink milk except in my cereal. The kids drink it, use it in smoothies, eat cereal for a snack, etc. so we go through it pretty fast.
